Tactics Team Skizzo

Formation/Tactical Synopsis: The old footballing adage that matches are won and lost in midfield rings particularly true in the modern era. To this end, we've drafted modern greats Sergio Busquets, Luka Modric and Arturo Vidal to forge arguably the best midfield unit possible in this pool. Lining up in a 4-3-3 formation, we aim to establish effective control in the centre of the park and create goalscoring opportunities for our prolific centre-forward Aguero and his strong supporting cast.

Defence: David De Gea's heroics in goal for Utd are almost taken for granted now, such is the regularity with which he salvages matches for us. Already an all-time great, he's at the top of the food chain alongside Neuer in this pool. In front of him are Toby Alderwireld and Kostas Manolas. Two center backs who are defenders first and foremost. Manolas often playing the covering role for his defensive partner, while Alderwireld being more of the playmaker from the back. At full back we field a pair of Bayern Munich prodigies; David Alaba reverts to left back for this match, while on the opposite flank we've brought in Joshua Kimmich, the latest off the conveyor belt of great German full backs who racked up 17 assists last season.

Midfield: Simply a dream unit in the context of this draft. Busquets has played a critical role as the anchoring midfielder in some of the best teams in history, and his style should mesh superbly with the best midfielder of his generation in Luka Modric. Much as he did for Pep's possession-hungry Bayern team, Arturo Vidal will add a dynamic, combative edge to our technically brilliant midfield.

Attack: Ivan Perisic will play as a more or less orthodox winger, providing a direct and skillful outlet and a reliable stream of dangerous deliveries from our left wing. New signing Thomas Muller has freedom to do what he does best. Starting from the right side of our attack, the Raumdeuter will probe for openings all across the frontline and ruthlessly exploit any space he finds. Aguero will play as our striker, looking to link up with the other forward players and put away any chances that come his way. With four successive 20 goal plus PL campaigns under his belt, Aguero is one of the most reliable and deadly goalscorers in the pool, and he'll thrive in this team with the level of control and creativity behind him.

Tactics Team Don Alfredo

My tactics are based on direct play, transitioning the ball very fast to my attackers and punishing any mistakes or gaps in Skizzo’s defense with my fab 4 up front.

My defence is as great as they come, with the 2 best defensive fullbacks, the best defender in the pool and the most complete defender in the pool. Boateng has everything you want in a center back including pace, height, strength, heading ability, passing ability and positioning. Godin-Boateng is like Godin-Miranda but better, because Boateng can do everything that Miranda can and he is great in the build-up as well. Filipe Luis is proven as the best defensive LB of his time and has years of success playing next to Godin and Courtois. Azpi is the best fullback of the PL in this decade and one of the best fullback (and CB!) in the world, always delivering very strong performances. His ball-playing skills shouldn’t be underrated, he has a great cross on him and his technique is flawless for a CB/FB.

The midfield has been orchestrated by the idea of beating the press, delivering the ball to my attackers and offering creative and technical solutions for difficult situations. Dembele and Pjanic are perfect for this task because they both are great on the ball and very hard-working off the ball.

Kevin De Bruyne is the heart of my team, the best number 10 in this draft and he has 2 seasons on genuine All-Time Level, comparable to some of the greatest seasons of number 10s ever.

My attack is the same like at the start of the draft, but it shouldn’t be underrated because Neymar and Nani is the best winger duo of the draft and adding Cavani, the sum of my three attackers offers everything you want in a 3-man-strikeforce like multiple elite goalscorers, multiple elite assisters, great creativity and outstanding physical attributes. You have to add that all three of my attackers shined at both club and country, which not many players of this era have on their CV.

Why is Manolas still starting in the semi-final?
Not a fan of Alfredo's midfield but his attack and defense are simply brilliant.

My first thought is Skizzo will have a very hard time scoring goals. Aguero and Muller seem like big names on paper, but they match up bad against my defense based on their track record.

Muller has 4 games against Atletico and 0 goals.

Aguero has played 5 games against Boateng with City. One of those was a dead rubber but only for Bayern (already qualified as first place in the CL group, Hojberg and Rode in midfield), Benatia got a stupid red card after 20 minutes and Bayern was down to 10 with a B-team. Aguero scored 3 in that game, but in the other 4 games vs Boateng he scored 0 goals.

This.

Alfredo has replaced 3/4 of his starting defence with reinforcements. Man for man I’d say he has the four strongest pure defenders in the pool.

Very quiet this thread fwiw. Can’t help but feel that the same thread in the mains would generate a lot more wider interest especially given it’s a modern pool.

Attack: Don Alfredo
Midfield: Skizzo
Defence: Don Alfredo
Players I overrate: Neymar, Cavani
Players I underrate: Manolas, Alderweireld, Perisic
Tactical concern: Pjanic & battle midfield
Special Bonus: Don Alfredo front 4; collective De Bruyne+Nani to support selfish Cavani & Neymar obsessed with goals
Picture creativity: Don Alfredo
More sophisticated picture: Skizzo
Perfect CV: Busquets
Winner: Don Alfredo

Thin the same.

Life is very very ironical. This draft i supposed to be the more welcome draft in the history of RedCafe with players everybody knows.

But what a waste.

That was always the plan:) Tbh I got lucky that I played against Big Dunk (who had Godin) just in the round before I had the first pick in reinforcement. Godin was on the losing side in his first 2 games so I hoped I could break the trend:nervous:

If there is no discussion it is not very enjoyable for many people:( I can't fault Skizzo one bit for that, just to make that clear. It's the circumstances.

I planned to have more time, but after a hugely unproductive 3 hour meeting on Saturday morning, we scheduled another meeting for 9 am today:mad: This meeting took 6 fecking hours to bend and was even more frustrating:annoyed:

Mental. Wasn’t even picked in the previous RR.

He's weird because he has clearly been a world class player at RW for Germany in 2 world cups, but do you know any other world class winger in history with no dribbling qualities?

Beckham is another case for a winger without the greatest qualities in 1v1, but he is special because he's the best crosser ever, the 2nd best free kick scorer ever and offers a huge amount of midfield presence.

Muller started at RW but he was never a traditional RW. His impact to games is beyond question whether he can dribble or not is frankly immaterial. Like Cruyff he brings a lot more to the table.

Muller = Nani x 100.

I don't know why you hate Nani so much.:D

Both Muller and Nani were great early in their early 20s and declined heavily into their late 20s.

Muller won the world cup as one of the best players in the tournament, Nani was one of the best players at the Euros where Portugal won. Their skill set is very different, but their careers are not too dissimilar.

Agreed. Skizzo midfield and attack are stellar. Love Don's solid defensive set up. It should heave been a close match....assuming Muller gets his due.
Loved it myself. It’s great how seemlessly he got it from 3-4-3 to 4-3-3 for this round looking functional and based on that great midfield.

Some players were bound to be under appreciated and Muller especially.

As Edgar said he’s not your typical RW. He’s more of a SS or attacker in a free role that comes from the right side. He has a lot of attributes and whilst dribbling is not one of them he was in the elite tier of attackers at some point and certainly world class.

Disagree here. Nani is on Sterling level or thereabouts. He was never Muller’s level or reached his heights on consistent basis.

I might have been biased due to my Nani hate here  It's just that I had so much hopes for him and Anderson and after showing signs promise all I remember is frustration and yelling at TV screen every time he showboated and went for the goal and missed instead of the final pass. I HATE him now!

Agreed!

It’s a shame this game didn’t get as much discussion as it deserved. I think Manoloas at semi final stage hurt Skizzo quite a bit.

A more known defender there and the match would be a lot closer

Yeah, put Ramos there and it's a toss-up.

:lol:At least you are self-aware that you are biased, not everyone has this ability:D

My feck up was forgetting that Vidal transferred to Barcelona  I actually only realized after I think was Enigma said something. After that I kind of backed myself into a corner and couldn’t really navigate back out.
