Tactics EAP

Formation:
3-4-3 / 3-3-3-1

Tactics:
Score more than I concede

Defence:
A 3 man defence with both side CBs capable of playing as respective fullbacks and comfortable covering wide. Top talent CD in Caldara holding the line together.

Andre Onana, Ajax and Cameroon NT GK lines up as the final defensive line.

Midfield:
Jorginho to pull strings from the deep, flanked by Kroos and Marchisio who can run the game. Good blend of defensive astuteness, workrate and creative passing ability.

Attack:
Raumdeuter having a free role here and will be drifting around overloading defence, two young by lightning quick wide forward wingers who can and will alternate flanks and a big CF to lead the line in Lukaku.

Tactics Enigma

Formation: 4-2-3-1
Defensive line: normal
Style: Direct. Technical unit, whilst also excellent in transition with lots of versatility and skill in attack.

Short team profiles:

GK: Fernando Muslera
- proven at the highest level and two great WC's, Copa America win, two times in a row chosen as IFFHS Best Goalkeeper(6th, 7th).

RB: Dani Carvajal
- Probably the best right back in the pool. Key for Real's 4 CL triumphs and excellent credentials in both phases - defensively and supporting the attack.

LB: Faouzi Ghoulam
- before the injury he was one of the best LB's in the world. Ghoulam has proven to be one of the most exciting left-backs in Serie A - he is extremely quick and powerful. When he joined Napoli, club doctors were astonished to find that his medical tests bettered those of Edinson Cavani. The Algerian is able to run up and down the wing tirelessly, and is especially good at joining attacks.

CB: Mats Hummels
- WC winner, 4 BL titles, regularly chosen in team of the year both in the BL and on international stage. Hummels quickly became an integral part of Dortmund’s defense as well as the attacking style Klopp was instilling. What makes Hummels stand out above his peers is his technique and ability to join the attack and initiate plays out of the defense. Kicker ranked him as the only player in the league worthy of the “international class” rank at his time at Dortmund, putting him in a class of his own.

CB: José Giménez
- Giménez is basically a whirling dervish, a constantly active defender chasing and harassing forwards. He has learned to channel better his aggressiveness and combine that with his outstanding athleticism and improved reading of the game. Gimenez combines his power, pace, and positioning, he is dynamic, forceful and utilizes his intelligence.

CM: N'Golo Kanté
- was a key member of Leicester City’s fairytale title win in 2015-16 and incredibly then won the Premier League again the following season after a £32million move to Chelsea. He was named the PFA Player of the year and FWA Footballer of the Year on the back of his success, but these tributes from some of the biggest names in the game may mean even more to the Frenchman.
His contribution to France’s World Cup campaign can not be underestimated. A supreme tackler with a superhuman work rate, he has improved with the ball at his feet dramatically since moving to Chelsea. More abstractly, he levels the balance of any side.

CM: Nuri Şahin
- At his peak(cut short unfortunately due to injuries) he was the architect behind Dortmund breaking the Bayern dominance 8 years ago and chosen as Bundesliga player of the season in the process. A sublime passer of the ball, who also isn't afraid to stuck in, he'll compliment well Kante's fantastic energy and work rate.

AM: James Rodríguez
- The footballer captivated the world at the tournament in Brazil four years ago, where he was the top scorer of the competition. James' football pedigree has many facets. His quality is indisputable, as the Colombian possesses many of the characteristics that make him a top player. James can turn a rival inside out. He is able to eliminate three opponents with a single touch as his talent is innate and that helps him play in midfield or in any area of the attack.

LWF: Alexis Sánchez
- He was the driving force behind Chile’s Copa-America triumphs. Fantastic output at Arsenal, where he easily could claim to be one of the best players in the league at the time. He can play on both wings and as a forward as well. The comination of dribbling, passing and shooting makes him one of the biggest threats to any defense in the entire league.

RWF: Raheem Sterling
- Sterling is a man at the top of his game, a player in that glorious sweet spot where ability meets maturity, where swaggering confidence meets unfinished business. He is at the top of his game finishing his best season up to day last year with City scoring 23 goals in 46 games in all competitions.

CF: Gonzalo Higuaín
- 36 goals in Serie A. No one like him in the history of the Italian league. This is Gonzalo Higuaín’s incredible score in 15/16. A player who, under Sarri’s direction, found his second youth, shown the world how, as an excellent player, with hard work and the support of a great team, you can become a top player. Yes, because Higuaín has scored in every way possible. On penalty shots, from outside the area, with acrobatic moves, inside the penalty area or with a brilliant tap-in.
He is an all-around centre forward, capable of manoeuvring, striking from any distance, inflicting damage in any possible way, but also creating favourable spaces for his teammates to move into. He is that player that we can, and must, define as “unmarkable”.
Higuaín was awarded Juve's MVP in the last two seasons ahead of the likes of Dybala, Pjanic, Chiellini.

Defence: Very solid unit and perhaps not so outrageous to say that we have one of the best defences in the first round. Stylistically Hummels and Gimenez are a great fit and both are top class CB at their peak (approaching for Gimenez). Hummels ability to take the ball out from the back and initiate attacks is welcome, whilst our full back pair is very balanced and solid in both phases of the play, proven both in Europe, internationally and for their clubs. Hummels and Gimenez are the perfect sweeper/stopper pairing and would thrive being paired together.

Midfield:
Kante/Sahin is a pretty solid duo which can both control the game and also press the opposition in making turnovers and regaining possession for our side. We have two creative wingers/wide forwards in Alexis and Sterling whilst James slowly regains at Bayern his top form which earned him the move to Real 4 years ago and boosted his credentials as outrageous talent.

Attack:
Sanchez/Higuain/Sterling has it all - finishing ability, movement, trickery and ability to create a lot of chances given the opportunity. We'd back our attack to create havoc in the opposition defence and outscore them

Onto the game think Edgar went a bit crazy with the lineup. Love that midfield and on the ball would be great, but not many ball winners and will struggle in transition.

Without designated full backs and young Bailey and Chiesa, who aren't really work horses his backline would struggle to contain both Sanchez and Sterling.

I reckon my midfield is clearly better. We will dominate possession both in quality and in strength of numbers.

Bailey and Chiesa are both comfortable playing a deeper role on respective flanks and are not luxury players by any stretch. They are lightning quick and I have enough quality in midfield for pinpoint passing to exploit space behind your fullbacks.

Alexis and Sterling are not touchline huggers and will tend to cut in mostly and I'm playing a compact defence to counter that.

Well we have the best midfielder on the pitch IMO along with Kroos - Kante. On the ball I would agree with you but to me it lacks balance in the defensive phase. You have many playmakers who were used to having a ball winners next to them to do the running and recover the ball. You don't have one here, so that's clearly an issue.

Bailey and Chiesa aren't really as described - they are wingers or wing forwards. Don't believe they are tasked with the defensive duties of a wing back which would be vital for your flanks.

Also Skriniar isn't really that comfortable as a side back or a covering CB. He's pretty much a typical CB in a back 4. He won't be that useful in this set up, especially against Alexis and no support either from a wing back or defensive B2B.

Not that I rate him very highly, but Bailey has played wingback on many occasions at Leverkusen. That left side seems fine because you couldn‘t think of two better players than Marchisio and Vertonghen for the roles they have to play.

I rate Skriniar highly, dunno if he is the right fit for Alexis. Probably more suited to mark Higuain from what I have seen of him at Inter.

Chiesa I have heard some great things about, but I have never actually seen him play. You have some more info on him @Edgar Allan Pillow ?

One of the most promising young talents in Italy. Raw pace, lightning acceleration, two footedness (though he tends to prefer his right) and an astute footballing brain. He is young and there is some question on his decision making (passing vs shooting), but with experience, he'll have a good career. Good workrate had have played in deeper positions, but prefers a right sided winger/wide forward role. Can score and create.

Would have preferred a more out and out creative presence in the #10 role there in place of Muller, whose strengths like more off the ball than on it.

What does he gain from a more creative number 10 when he has Kroos and Jorginho offering creative passing like no one else does and Bailey and Chiesa with their dangerous dribblings?

I am not his biggest fan, but this set up looks tailor made to me to mask Muller‘s weaknesses.

Certainly plenty of creativity behind Muller, but like @Moby I'm not sure how he fits with the attack in front of him. Probably gets in Lukaku's way in terms of his space to hold the ball up and isn't anywhere near as creative with his passing to link in the kids out wide. The personnel and construction of the midfield and attack lends itself to more of a 4-3-3 with Muller taking up the right forward slot.

Ah that‘s a good idea, just needs a more mobile kind of CF with better link-up play.
