Mo Salah

for those moaning and trying to find excuses for salah's performance this season, please give credit where its due. he has done remarkably well and deserves the plaudits. Now, before we go all out comparing him with other consistently performing players like kane, etc. let's assess him this time next season or the season after that.
I understand we are still a team being built in progress, and as far as we are concerned, someone mentioned on the other thread, mourinho has stabilized our club and we can only get better going forwards (hopefully!).

That’s the whole point isn’t it? The ability to recognize talent and nurture them. How did you know De Bruyne did not have the capacity to do better at the time?

De Bruyne is certainly a much better player than Lampard.

how do you nurture them without playing them. Neither would have gotten the amount of games they did by staying, and would not have improved as much by being bit part players.

Exactly right. I had same thing when Kane burst on scene in his breakthrough season. We have seen those type of one season miracles before. Since then he has proven himself.

One thing about Salah is that he scored 18 goals for Roma last season. I don't think he will score as many next season as he has this season but another season around 18-20 goal mark would be 3 super seasons on the spin.

He has to finish 3rd in Ballon d'Or at the very least if he keeps up this form to the end of the season.

Klopp does this with players. He coaches them so well they are allowed to shine. Was always my top pick for United boss post SAF. Unfortunately it didn't materialise. Their defense is getting better, I expect them to overtake us in the League, beat City in the Champions League and they have a great shout for it. Getting Keita in the summer and a good keeper signing will make them clearly the second best team in the League. Fair play to them.

Salah has been excellent but I imagine Martial and Rashford (even Pogba) under Klopp would be equally as potent.

Martial and Rashford would be electric for us under Klopp. So much skill, pace and a hunger for goals.

Edit: and yes I'll concede that Pogba would be world class in Coutinho's (who?) ex-position too.

Yep completely agree. I've always been jealous that you guys nabbed him. Top coach who'll prove fruitful in the long run.

Not even the most Liverpool fan could think of Mo Salah doing number of Golden Shoe. One of the surprises of the season.

Yep I agree.

Klopp's system must be a dream for attackers. It ensures they get into these 2 on 3/3 on 3 situations time and time again.

Peak lampard is nowhere near ballon d’or

Peak De Bruyne would be thereabouts in top 3-5.
Peak Lampard finished second only to Ronaldinho in the Ballon d'Or list!

Bloody hell, it's like many people here starting watching football in 2013.

Lampard at his best was world class. Could easily have won the Ballon d'Or if not for Ronaldinho being as good as he was.

De Bruyne hasn't reached that level yet, Lampard was doing it against top class European sides.

I think De Bruyne is definitely better than Lampard ever was. We have had this discussion on here before. Only thing peak Lampard had over current De Bruyne is goal scoring.

That's because Lampard was a second striker more than a central midfielder and the comparison is a silly one. But if it's being made, then in terms of who's performed best in their respective roles so far (Lampard back then, De Bruyne now), then Lampard wins as he achieved more at a higher level. Could change in the near future.

Very near future.

Maybe. If he runs the show against Barcelona, Bayern, Real/Juventus, then I might revise my opinion. If he does it against Liverpool then he'll just have something in common with Forlan, Mata and Berbatov.

He'll certainly have the completeness of his games put to the test if Guardiola plays him in a midfield with Fernandinho and Silva. I actually think his defensive abilities insofar as hunting the ball are underrated.

For sure. Just like if you took Salah and put him in our team he'd be as inconsistent as everyone else. You lot actually have a game plan that brings out the best of your attackers.

Not on your life.

The guy ran, tackled and contributed more in the middle third of the pitch than the final. He was a top drawer player but he wasn't a midfield 10, let alone a second striker.

He wasn't burdened by too much defensive responsibility, but he sure as hell wasn't a second striker.

So are we the only team he's not scored against this season then?

Remarkable stat if it's true.
You and Swansea. Has scored against 13 so far and will get a chance against the remaining 4 in the upcoming matches. I think the PL record is also 17 teams in a single season.

As compelling as it is, is there any chance of taking the Lampard V's De Bruyne in to a thread about those two?

Player of the season for me too. What a season he’s having, and bought at a bargain. God knows how much he’d go for now if Madrid came sniffing.

When was the last time an African player won the golden boot? Or will he be the first if he does it? Will be an amazing achievement if he can do it.

Yeah, it's amazing. He's probably tripled his value in 8 months.

I hate to admit it but I think Lampard became a very under rated player by English fans. He was a superb player and way more than just a midfield goal scorer. His passing was fantastic but because he didn't really exhibit flair, try Hollywood passes every 5 minutes or charge around the pitch like an idiot he often went unnoticed until he popped up with a goal.

more like quadrupled.

Working in multiples is pointless. He's having a better season than Coutinho could ever dream of in the PL. Coutinho was worth £145m and Salah is clearly £60-100m better (rack up their stats if unsure).

Plus, the usual pissing us off by tapping him up tax. And not including Asensio in the deal tax. Remember this guy in May may have broken Ronaldo's 42 goal record in England. That's  for anybody.

Some of his best performances for Chelsea came in that position. Also, I don't see how you can say he contributed more in the middle third than the final third when Lampard's main thing was goal scoring or assisting goal scoring. Take that away from him and he was a very average player indeed.

I was going to say George Weah but just checked and in fact no African player has ever won the European Golden Boot. That's crazy.
