Mo Salah

Salah is a good player but obviously not at Messi's level.

This season, Salah is marked very tightly and he keeps losing the ball. Salah also lacks the experience of playing against a tight defence in the premier league.

Still, he can be a dangerous player and he has already scored more premier league goals this season (17) than any of what Theo walcott did in 12 seasons at Arsenal.

Anyone has the video of the move he refused to pass to Mane on the counter-attack?

That was poor by him. If he'd run to the right Spurs would have been in big trouble, he could have gone himself or played Mane in. He just kept moving over trying to get onto his left foot until the chance had gone.

That's got to be one of the most random comparisons I've ever seen

Don't see how he's having a bad season if Sterling is having a fantastic one. They're pretty much the same right now given that City is a lot better at creating goalscoring chances and Salah gets individually marked far more often

Wow, what a controversial opinion!

Criticism is overboard... doesn't he have nearly 20 goals?

He's on a bad run .. short memories.

Overall he's still having a great season. 17 goals 7 assists in the league is really, really good.

Form wise though, he hasn't looked 'right' for a good while now, and I would be a tad worried if I was a Liverpool fan. Might just be a confidence thing and he'll get over it but I'm struggling to remember the last great game he had.

In addition, Salah is an 'unorthodox' player to me. He is NOT the type who plays beautiful football with nice crossing or nice passing.

He doesn't look at himself as a crosser or a winger. He just aims for goal and shoot towards it even if it's a half-chance.

The last minute goal against Spurs was an example. He does not cross/pass the ball and plays it beautifully like Ozil. He just aim for the goal.

As a striker, if you are not ambitious and is always looking to pass instead of shooting yourself, you won't be scoring a lot.

Miles better was obviously an hyperbole, but I disagree that Sterling had an inferior season and was an inferior player.
Sterling is praised for having similar numbers on a much much better teams where he has a lot more freedom because he's not getting individually marked like Salah is.
And Sterling is never gonna hit the numbers that Salah hit last year.
Also i'm looking forward to how he does when Pep eventually leaves because his numbers were never that impressive before Pep.

FFs, Sterling was like 21 when Pep came in, what did you expect his numbers to be like?

I wish one of Martial or Rashford were having a bad season with 17 goals and 7 assists at this stage of the seasons

Before Pep ? He was basically a baby, what is up with those crazy expectations ?

Maybe they will when they're older. Salah was nothing great at their age.

Salah isn't having a bad season per say. It's just that he's nowhere near the player last season appeared to portray. I'd rather have Hazard in my team.

All good players get marked. Let's not pretend Salah is like Messi getting really special treatment from every team. Also, everything isn't about numbers. Sterling is simply performing at a higher level this season.

Think Salah's overall play doesn't get the credit it deserves. Yes he's been too selfish lately, but for much of the season he was the only one up front with real quality in the buildup, holding up the ball, carrying it forward and getting on the end of things. He still has at least one moment a game where he creates a good chance from nothing. And last time someone in a match thread commented he never passes to Mane (really, this is just clicheed) he put a peach of a cross for Mane to score.

His 'struggling' level is still way better than 99% of players in this league.

He has had some stinkers though. Against Everton he was genuinely just really poor, and seemingly incapable of passing the ball properly.

Could just be a confidence issue though, also seems to me like he's thinking about chances too much whereas in the past he would just hit the ball and be confident with his finishing.

Yeah. Think he is frustrated from knowing he did these things last year and isnt quite able to do it the same way now.

Even a past-it Rooney used to have a potentially decisive moment each game. I'm not sure that's a valid point to use to big him up. We all know he's a very good footballer. They tend to do something useful when they're ok the pitch regardless of form.

I wouldn't say he's struggling in general, he's a victim of last season success. Aguero suffers from something similar, if he doesn't bang in 30 league goals he's not been great (though this season Aguero is getting more plaudits than usual). When you set the bar so high its impossible to maintain you get judged harshly. I would say Sterling is having a marginally better season than Mo simply because he hasn't been as greedy. As you said a struggling Salah is still in the top 5 attackers in the league.

How the bloody hell is that not a red card. So a pen and a clear red card not given against pool.

Well, I.am.really.shocked.

VAR no longer in operation in Liverpool matches?

Should face a retrospective ban. Clear red.

Did that get reviewed? How do they look at that and not see a red card?

Who was the VAR, do we know that? I'm far from surprised that a useless cnut like Lahoz didn't see it but it's inexcusable for the VAR.

How on earth anyone would decide that's not a red card I have no idea.
