So I've been waiting patiently since Fergie retired for Manchester United to become great again. I assumed it was inevitable. Massive global fanbase, huge stadium selling out every week. Only a matter of time before we're hoovering up league titles again.

But maybe I've been kidding myself?

Thanks to stuff like gulf state ownership, we're competing against clubs with deeper pockets than us. And the same rules that stop them buying success is making it harder for us to take advantage of our global fanbase, big stadium etc to spend our way to winning league titles. It looks like we won't ever again be able to take our pick of the best players in the league, like we used to do in the past. Does this mean we're just one of a bunch of big clubs, all hoping we can stumble across the next SAF/Klopp/Pep to take us that next level? Are we basically no more likely to win the league in my lifetime than clubs like Spurs, Villa, Newcastle, Chelsea etc?

Can someone who understands football finances better than me explain why Manchester United have any advantage over lesser clubs when it comes to that hunt for our elusive next league title?

We're still financially stronger and can outspend the majority of clubs in England without the need for rich owners. It's just a case if the club being mismanaged for a long time. We still have a great pull when it comes to attracting talent, and a massive fanbase. That doesn't guarantee anything but it means that if managed well we'll be out there challenging with the rest. We don't need the dominance of the past, it's actually much more interesting winning a competitive league.

I have faith in the new direction, maybe I'm being naive but I feel a big difference in our transfer dealings this summer. Recruitment and stable management (of the team and above the manager) have been huge issues for us. In the immediate jury is still out (or not in some cases) on Ten Hag but the structure he is working in is far superior than yesteryear.

For all the hate it gets and for all the flaws it has, FFP ensured that even after a decade of no titles, terrible ownership, idiotic buys and bad managerial appointments, we still can afford pretty much every player in the world and remain financial mammoths thanks to our global fanbase built earlier than other clubs during our peak. Without any restrictions on spending/income we’d be much more fecked and surpassed by the Gulf clubs

your basically blaming the a-rabs for coming over here and stealing are jobs

we shud talk more

I think we're financially ahead of every team bar Chelsea and City in the league. If we look at money spent since SAF retired it really is criminal how poor this club has been run. We've finally got competent people, so I assume within 2 years we'll be genuinely challenging.

Can you expand on that to me What fincancial advantage does this give us over the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, City, Newcastle or Spurs?

The club is one of the biggest in world football and now we are being run properly we will see an upturn in form and will then be able to compete once again.
Remember, The Dippers spent 20+ years waiting on a title.
Considering the bizarre way chelsea are being run and the 115 cheating barstands, we should be up there near the top of the table again within the next few years.
