That annual time of the year where I get up every night to watch blokes play rounders. Actually I often watch the MLB on Five over here, not done it so much this season as it goes, but will of course watch all of the World Series. I don't support a team, but I watch out more for the White Sox, though I believe they came bottom of their division this season. Fun times

Anyway, game 1 starts tonight, Boston at home. I've have a look at the official site, risk of it pissing down apparently. Might be a long night...

Turned it off early, major bore. Beckett was dealing and the Sawx were scoring in bunches.

Sox up 2-0 now. Series is heading to Colorado for game 3 (best of 7) Sat night.

Colorado did ok last night in that they held Boston to only 2 runs. not so good in that they only scored 1 run themselves.

plenty of baseball left, specially as they're at home for the next 3 games.

Beckett looks like a lock to win his games but I wouldn't be surprised to see him fail. All the attention has to go to his head.

Don't care who wins, as long as it isn't the scum of the earth from Boston.

After saw how those bastards destroyed and tortured the Indians even been down 3-1 in the series i wont bet against them

Their team is a massive force, from the 1st to the 5th all are monsters with the bat and apart from that Beckett and Schilling are 99% a game in the bag

no there isn't. There is no way colorado wins the world series. The sox are gonna ride their momentum to a sweep or 5 game series. Colorado can't win more than a game in this series.

Colorado will win the series. Colorado will win the series. Colorado will win the series. Colorado will win the series. Colorado will win the series. Colorado will win the series. Colorado will win the series. Colorado will win the series. Colorado will win the series. Colorado will win the series. Colorado will win the series.

Whatever you are taking needs to be shared.

Getting the series back to Boston would be a major accomplishment for the Rockies right now.

Little known fact that you won't hear much from Red Sox Nation or the media but you would if the Yankees were winning the series.

Boston will set a new payroll record for highest payroll to win the World Series eclipsing the 2004 Boston Red Sox. Strangely, only the Yankees are called out for trying to buy championships. Boston has bought two now.

Its absurd when teams like Boston and Los ANgeles complain about the Yankees when they have a payrool quadruple that of most teams.

Surely if you're going to 'buy championships', the least you can do is actually go on and win them? Least Boston are doing that!

Brad''s it the fact that they think because the Yankees are spending more than them their spending is justified(look at what they pulled with Matzusaka, only NY, Boston, or a Los Angeles team could have afforded the purchase and ensuing huge contract.

As for me, nothing to do tomorrow, I have decided to drink several beers and utilize other wacky things during the game, because based off the Rockie's past, and the fact that they are owned by a real life meatpacker, dont know when they will be back again

Admittadly I've only watched the past what 4 or 5 world series... is this one of the worst championship series ever? It just seems such a mismatch

Apparently only 3 series that have been 3-0 have gone to a 5th game. Out of 22 attempts. In all probability, this ends here tonight

To jazz it up on Channel 5 a bit, they've brough Phil Jupitus into the studio. Desperate times indeed...

You know I think that the fact that the Rockies had such a break and then had to go right into an American League park for two games really hurt them. That said the RedSox have a great lineup as was said earlier compare their pay roll to the Rockies. With all that said the Rockies have a great team, Helton will be the first Rockie's Hall of Famer a decade or so from now, Holliday is a top slugger in any league (ever), Tulowitizki is better defensively than anyone defensively, and Hawpe and Atkins are very good offensively. I just think the Red Sox are real hot right now. If you watched the World Series in the 80s, Al Michaels call during the 89 SF quake, "I think we are having an earth......."

Not a great team again tonight though Alex, 4-1 in the 8th and looking like it's being decided here tonight, which is a shame. To get all the way to the World Series and get swept doesn't do yourselves or the occasion justice

A Rod no longer a Yankee, breaking news, becomes a free agent

I dont know about that from him, he must have just not liked the way he was treated in NYC, because no team could offer as much him, also, his bargaining power has greatly decreased as the Yankees have vowed not resign him if he voided his contract because of the 21 mil they would lose from the Texas GWs

Yankees will not resign him. And if Rodriguez didn't like the fans in NY wait he's gonna love the scummy lot in Boston. Poor decision by Boras and to leave the news on Cashmans voice mail was classless.

Exactly, he took the biggest payout out of the picture knowing Boras he probably has got something cookin in Anaheim, because he usually gets his players the best deals out there

Its quite disappointing really. He had everything he could ever want in NY. A HUGE contract, media focus and the fans were warming to him. H could have broken the home run record in the new Yankee stadium in the pinstripes but instead he chose to go after more cash. Sad and disappointing.

There have been some legendary ones, just not in the last few years!

In my brief time on the planet, the 1979, 81, and 82 series were classic, not that I remember them. I do remember the brilliant series between 1985 and 1987, especially the middle one with Mookie Wilson's legendary 'slow roller to first base'.

1988 was very lopsided, but is famous for a specific pinch hit homerun by Kirk Gibson, who was so injured he could barely stand.

The most brilliant of my lifetime was 1991, in spite of the horrible result (I'm a Braves supporter - they were the closest team growing up). The Braves and the Twins both went from worst in their leagues in 1990 to the World Series, and it was frighteningly tight. If only Lonnie Smith was waved home, it all could have been so different...I still want Jack Morris to meet my friend the freak yachting accident.

1997, 2001 (the only time I EVER rooted for the Yankees to do anything), and 2002 were tight and entertaining as well.

The drug scandals and the 1995 strike have really ruined my childhood love of baseball, mind. That and discovering religion.

Baseball has not been the same for me since the greedy players and arrogant owners cancelled the 1994 season (which was shaping up as the greatest season of the last 40 years: Matt Williams was chasing the HR record, Tony Gwynn was chasing .400, Expos was MLB's top team, the Yankees were back, the AL West had a club in 1st place that was like 8 games under .500).

I felt ARod/Boras crap last night was grand-standing. I hope this backfires but he's probably got a LA club or maybe the woeful Cubs offering a big deal. But I don't see any club outside the NYY ponying up $30m per year. I hope in a month or so we see ARod/Boras still without a team and they go scurrying back to the Bronx only to be turned away.

good win for the Red Sox.

I was hoping that Colorado would win a couple so the series would be extended and go back to Fenway Park.
