Red Sox acquire RHP Josh Beckett and 3B Mike Lowell from Florida for prospects SS Hanley Ramirez, RHP Anibal Sanchez and RHP Jesus Delgado (deal not finalized). Beckett is arbritration eligible and is expected to get between $4-5m for 2006, and can opt for free agency next November, while Lowell is due $9m in 2006 & 2007.

NY Mets acquire 1B Carlos Delgado from Florida for 1B Mike Jacobs and RHP Yusmiero Petit. Deal also includes Florida sending $7m to NY Mets to help offset Delgado's 2006 salary ($13.5m). Delgado would incur risk too if he demanded a trade, because if the Mets didn't trade him and he didn't rescind his demand, he would become a free agent and forfeit the remaining money his contract guarantees -- $14.5 million in 2007 and $16 million in 2008 -- and the $4 million he would receive if the option for 2009 were not exercised.

NY Mets have offered LHP Billy Wagner a 3 year, $30m contract. The union is requesting Wagner hold out for an extra year or an increase in annual salary in order to set the market for other closers (Trever Hoffman, BJ Ryan, etc.), and raise the greed level, errr bargaining level of other free agents.

Buster Olney is reporting that 1B Jim Thome will be traded to Chicago White Sox in exchange for CF Aaron Rowand and $22m. Thome would most likely take over DH duties in Chicago, as Carl Everett is a free agent. However, if Paul Konerko leaves, then Thome would be the 1B.
