As a Yankees fan, i must admit the coming season is looking a whole lot better with Sabathia, Burnett and now Teixeira in pinstripes.

Yankees got Teixeira? Nice. Other than CC have they strengthened the bullpen at all? Don't get much news coverage over here in England and I can't be arsed to look it up.

The Yankees will rise again. feck you Tampa Bay.

I wouldn't be surprised if they once again fail to deliver. Damon is a liability in the OF, Matsui's injury could hamper him in the OF, and the bullpen needs an upgrade. Perhaps they trade Cano soon for relief pitching.

I have no qualms over their spending. They do it within their resources and are committed to 1) winning and 2) entertaining their fans. Too bad other club owners would rather sit back and make profits/save money. They also pay a huge salary tax every year. I personally hope MLB gets in-line with other US leagues and gets a real salary cap system in place. The probability is quite low considering how strong the player's union is and the fact they'll strike in a heartbeat. If they do strike again, MLB is fecked forever.

My best mate in New York phoned me last night at 2am shouting at me WE GOT TEIXERA. I love the reaction this is getting on Blogs and baseball forums the Evil Emprie is back.

I think Damon is ok in LF in CF he is awful but he still a very good lead of hitter. As for Matsui I don't think he is gonna play in the outfield he's gonna DH. I think the bull pen was one of the strengths last year Rivera, Marte, Bruney, pick 3 out of Albaladejo, Veras, Robertson, Ramirez, Giese, Aceves or Coke.

Teixera has Giambi mark 2 written all over him.
CC Sabathia - These numbers ring a bell? 0-2 with a 10.45 ERA. The Sox are really shitting their pants.
Burnett - do me a favour.

Yeah, since Texiera is on steroids and all

Teixeira is a far better player than Giambi ever was. I scoffed at NYY throwing that money at Giambi a few years back. He was average defensively, not a great hitter overall and a few other things. About as one-dimensional player there was. But Steiny couldn't accept the loss to Arizona and started splashing the cash going against the policy the front office had been using (acquiring key veterans and developing talent).

Teixeira, despite NYY outbidding themselves for him, is a gold glove first baseman, a great lockerroom guy (so was Giambi in fairness), a great gap hitter and in NY he'll hit 40 homers per season if they carry that LF porch to the new stadium. He's an RBI machine as well. However, I have heard from some that's an ARod type - drives in runs in droves when games are already settled (i.e. well ahead or behind) and that he's not clutch.

So with Tex and CC the Yanks have built a team that will get to the post-season - but will do feck all once it`s there.

Yankees haven't improved enough to make a huge splash. It will be a three horse race in the east with the Yankees finsihing third.

BTW - why the Yankees love, are you in NY?

A family member played for them way back when. More than enough reason, yet when your grandpa takes to Yankee Stadium and you meet players like Wade Boggs, Don Mattingly, and Paul O'Neil as a youngster to make you a Yankees fan for life

Rays just got Burrell, that's good for you guys

that's hilarious.

mjs is a baseball genius, I hear ESPN are interested in him taking over for Gammons. Afterall he has been following baseball for the past 6 months
