Mino Raiola (agent of many players including Pogba, Ibra and Balotelli) reveals himself at Corriere Dello Sport

Journalist: What effect does it have to be able to conclude operations which go beyond 300m?

Mino: No effect at all. I don’t feel any special. I am only Mino. I am happy that I am appreciated by my players and family. I don’t care about my public image because in the world there’s always people who loves you and those who hate. The latter tend not to tell you in your face. My point of reference are my family and my players whom I treat like my children. They appreciate that

What’s your philosophy that had made you the king of the transfer market?

I wasn’t born to make others happy. I do what is right. I am in the service of my player whom I give my 150%. When I manage to do well for them I am proud. I don’t care about the sacrifices I do or the money. Those do not matter. What’s important is doing the job well and I assure you that the results will follow.

You’’ve beaten records and now you’re planning another one for Pogba at United

I don’t care about records. Journalists say that Pogba will be a record signing but I did record signings with Ibra and Nedved. I only want my player’s best. Pogba included

Juventus had said that Paul wants to leave

I won’t answer to that. I only speak to my players and they are the only ones who knows what happening.

Pogba may be the transfer’s market king. Balotelli on the other hand isn’t really wanted by anyone. What do you want for Mario?

In life you are never late to turn the page. If you think that Mario tend to makes me anxious then you’re all wrong. Mario had improved a lot in the past years and he’s only asking for another shot. He need a bit of luck something that went missing throughout the years. However he’s a great lad with a big heart. He’s suffering the consequences for issues he may or may not have created.

Will Balotelli remain in the Serie A, Will he return to the EPL or will he go to China?

I won’t say anything. I don’t close doors to anybody, neither for Mario nor for any of my players. I listen to offer and then the players decide.

Is that your secret and why so many agents see you as a role model?

I inspire nobody. I only want to be a role model to my player (punto di referimento means reference point rather than role model but I can’t come out with the English world for it…sorry). If I manage to inspire other agents then that’s good. I hope that my story reveals how a person can become anything if he truly wants it and that its not good to have or accept limits to your dreams. It’s good to have dream and work hard to achieve them. No one was born knowing everything from day 1. To become something great you have to have a bit of luck but you also need to work hard. Without sacrifice you cant achieve anything. Italians should start looking beyond Italy. The world is not just Italy.

Mihajlovic has once called you un pizzaiolo (a person who cooks pizza ). How do you react to that

There’s nothing wrong in being a pizzaiolo. I’ve worked in my father’s restaurant and it had been an important experience for me. I am proud of my roots. I have learnt a lot working as a waiter including respecting people. The waiter treats everybody the same (rich people , poor people etc). This experience had taught me not to judge anybody and to listen to everybody. The restaurant was my university although I attended university myself.

What have you studied?

I studied law in Amsterdam. I was close in completing the course but I had to leave it because by that time I had already opened my first company. The company was called Intermezzo and it was a consulting company which had nothing to do with football. Most clients were Italians and Dutch and I had no issues in consulting them. My task was to put their things right.

You seem to be quite a natural in business

I’ve learnt a lot from day. He was a perfectionist and he taught me how to organize things. He taught me the basics ie to work hard and have no limits. I worked in his restaurant in Haarlem since I was 11 because I wanted to stay with family. My father made his outmost to keep me happy however he expected great work ethic. I had to wake up at 6 am to help set up the restaurant. However I also went to school. I could sleep at 5 am however at 6 I must be awake. My father is old now and he retired. My family take care of the restaurant. However he’s my reference pouint.

You’ve became an agent and have no limits in business. Did you really considering buying Roma FC?

If Rome FC was on the market and I can garner enough investors then I would consider it. Its an interesting project. The American owners have done little for the club and I don’t believe in their project. I don’t believe in the Inter’s project either.

What’s wrong with Roma FC?

They keep saying that they want to build a stadium but they haven’t spoken about any investment (like PSG or Shitty did). I doubt that the Americans had truly spend 300-400m in the club. They bought players but they resold them soon afterwards. They have a great football director in Sabatini but they keep selling his players all the time.

What about Inter?

For the time being Inter has no project. They keep waiting for someone to buy the club. Even if they do sell the club there is no investment. Any prospective owners seem only caring about managing the club. Ok the Chinese have money but they have no plans, no ideas. You can have all the money in the world but without a sound project you fail. (I know it doesn’t make sense but that’s the actual translation. Mino tend to say stupid things)

The Chinese have bought Inter and will soon buy Milan. Are you in favour of this foreign investment in the Serie A?

I am neither in favour nor against it. Italy is just a country who simply doesn’t care to observe and maybe copy the good of others. Therefore while others eat well in our own house we suffer. It happening the same in football with the Chinese. It’s Italy that needs to change and with it the Serie A.

What’s the best model to follow?

Football mirrors society and politics. If the Italians want to be competitive again there need to be a revolution. Its pointless building stadiums if the fans don’t feel safe in them. Youths must be raised well like the Germans did. They have a great and young side. They achieved that because they had hired competent coaches who taught children to play football when they were just kids. The Brits are doing the same mistakes Italy do. For now they have the money but the Leicester experience was great and an eye opener. You don’t need a team of stars to do well.

In Italy only Juventus can do well in Europe. Do you agree?

Juventus are lucky-unlucky to end up in the Serie B. That gave them the time to rebuild their structure including a new stadium and to invest in local and international talent. Others clubs had failed to do that. They took the money from media rights and did nothing with it. Everyone is enjoying the fruit of their works. In football you do the necessary changes when you’re strong else things get complicated.

There seem to be changes in football both in Italy and Abroad right?

Are you serious? Just look at FIFA. Blatter left and what happened? Nothing. They changed one person with another. We need to change the system.
