Milos Kerkez

Would be delighted if there was anything in this. Can play wing back or as a LB.

Is he that good? Looks impressive physically, but never seen him have a very good game. Dont look very impressive from a statistical point of view either.

Played less than 4000 minutes or PL-football. Feels a bit too soon for a big fee? Or at least like there is a good chance that the premium we will pay is too high compared to signing him from Eredivise one and a half year ago.

He just had a decent game against us. Presumably that's also a factor why we are interested.

I thought you wanted United to sign more PL players?

I want us to sign proven PL-players. And I am asking if Kerkez is? He is an inexperienced PL-player, and I dont think he looks very good. Yet. Do you? Then it feels like we pay a PL-tax without getting a PL-proven player. For now he is an example of a profile I would prefer that we signed directly from Eredivise for much, much lese.

And it is just a guideline. If Kerkez have looked great for a year and a half, it makes sense. Problem is, I dont think he has. I have seen him ten times, and never thought he looked more than decent.

He’s PL proven as in he’s proven that he can hold his own in the PL.

You want anymore than that then the price goes north quickly

Spent a lot of time on the floor against us but won the ball clean every time. Great engine and great stature. I like the look of him.

He’s developing at a rapid rate and has looked good in the PL. But I’d have him below Fulham’s Robinson and Ispwich’s Davies on my “attainable and good PL left backs and left wing backs”

That's a good selection of 3 promising young LB proven (to differing extents) in the PL. A lucky time for us to hopefully be moving on our stable of perennially injured left backs.

You are probably right. And that is a bit of my point. I prefer to pay more when we have more «confidence» in a player and the risk is lower.

We once paid £45 mill for a fullback with one full season in the PL. It is really hard picturing him costing much more if we waited a year.

Watch Bournemouth plenty, think he's better suited to leftback than left wingback.

He's particularly good against the bigger clubs and not as good in the games youd expect Bournemouth to win. Quicker and better at getting forward than Malacia but that goes for a lot of leftbacks, not a great deal of quality in end product. 2 assists and a goal isnt bad for this season

So you'd rather us sign another Malacia type

I think that’s a big consideration as to who we go for here — in this system the wingbacks have to be good at the actual winger stuff. The role of a traditional fullback getting up and down under/overlapping a winger is different to the wingback who has to do more isolation stuff.

Will depend if we want a proper LWB or a more traditional full back.
Not sure he's got enough going forward to be an attacking LWB like Amorin had at Sporting.

Robinson at Fulham looks a fine player too - probably my preference of the two

But not sure either will be the answer at LWB, unless we commit to Amad at RWB with a more defensive LWB

Yeah.

I think hes more in the Evra category, where he's good at getting forward with some pace from leftback but if hes given the ball and asked to run it, or given a good oppertunity to cross or find a good ball across the box hes not so good. I remember we played Evra left midfield a few times and it didnt work because its different overlapping a winger from leftback running onto the ball which he did well, and being given the ball and asked being asked to do something with it one vs one down the wing.

He'd probably do fine as a wingback but he's not going to be like Amad was at right wingback. Just an improvement on Dalot, and probably better at it than Mazraoui because of his speed and energy to get forward. I think we can probably find someone who truly suits taking on an opponent down that wing and getting some good balls in to our attackers for the money it would cost to sign him.

He just turned 21 though.

Maybe Quenda could play LWB?

Which fullback did we sign for 45m?

Edit: I completely forgot AWB

I prefer Miguel Gutiérrez from Girona. We need someone who can cross the ball to our strikers from the flanks.

We have also been linked with him

I rate Kerkez. He's a top talent and has been relatively consistent for the cherries but I think we are a season too early for him atm.
Problem is Liverpool seem to be hugely interested in him too and could make strong move for him next month, especially having spent nothing in the summer.

Actually yes. Difficult to predict injury. But my guess is we would have had a useful squad player in him without that injury, and probably sold him for a profit last summer without it.

Kerkez starts for us though, that's the difference.

We were linked to him last summer, I like what I've seen from him. He holds his own but has much more untapped potential.
