"Manchester United can confirm that Millie Turner will be unavailable for today’s game and for an indefinite period, after recent medical investigations revealed an issue with the artery in her neck.

Millie will continue to work closely with the club’s medical team and specialists, which will involve modified training and reassessments in the coming weeks and months."

Sounds serious. Fingers crossed she'll be ok.

That sounds very spooky. Anyone know anything more about stuff like this? Issue with an arteriy in the neck? Indefinite time? Hope for the best for Millie.

I cannot tell from a medical standpoint, but I have seen a few other professional athletes having to deal with blood circulation issues following injuries. Reading on Millie's case, the closest parallel I would make is with former NHL goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, who suffered a direct blow to the neck that resulted in trauma to the soft tissue in the area -- soft tissue that included a blood vessel that sustained damage in the process according to this. It is a rare type of injury.

If anything, it's good news that they found the problem quickly and now will take as much time as they need before she is 100% healed properly.

Thanks for the insights. A good thing as you say she has discovered it and is getting help.

This is my last post on the main forum for today, hopefully soon, I will be able to talk to more of you who are interested in the women's side, but I am just here to ask, is there any further updates on the condition of Millie?

For my mind, she is far and away out best centre back, and we have really missed her.

Yes, absence makes the heart grow fonder, but for me, she is right up there with the very best CB's in the whole league.
If fully fit for the whole season, I would have had her starting at the Euro's for England, that is how good she is.

I hope that we can see her back soon, but of course, only when she is fully fit, I don't want us risking her long term health.

I've not heard any timeline updates. She's training with the group for part of the time which is good news. I'm hoping we'll see her before the end of the season but for now I think we're still in the phase where she's awaiting medical clearance to resume full training.

Many thanks for this update, I think we really miss her.

Our best period this season, especially in terms of clean sheets, was with her in the side, so not having her and Mannion, is a huge blow.

I hope that she is at least available for the start of next season, not sure about when Mannion will be back sadly.

So we might have to think about a potential loan deal to cover Mannion's absence, as Maria hasn't really stood out for me, Caldwell has looked good, but we are lacking defensively without our first choice CB pairing for me.

Shes officially BACK - LOVE IT :)

It was great seeing that this morning. Like everyone else I was both curious and worried about what had happened to her. We knew it was serious and from some of the comments from family/friends - very dangerous to her health as well as to her career.

Great to hear that she's recovering well.

For people not in a position to watch the video right now - she had a "Carotid artery dissection" - a problem that is the most common cause of strokes in young adults. After a long period of more or less complete rest, followed by a slow monitored recovery/rehab program she has been allowed to gradually build up her fitness and activity level. She's now about 4-6 weeks away from a full return to normal training.

As U suspected, having her back is and will be HUGE, just watching how she played and then comparing that with the slow, error/gaff prone Steph at City, just shows how fortunate we are to have Millie back in action once again!

Not sure at this stage how Tounkara will be able to start too many games if Millie and Le Tiss form a partnership....

But either way, it is great ti have her back!

“It’s actually so crazy to think about how they’ve [United fanbase] grown every single year.

“I feel like we’re growing but as well, they’re growing.

“It’s so amazing to be able to go on the journey with the same fans. I say every single time that I’m asked about, they are 100 per cent our 12th man and we would not be able to do it without them.”

Nice to see her get back into the squad.

Maya le Tissier is in the squad as well, along with Mary Earps, Ella Toone and Grace Clinton (on loan at Spurs) so she'll have club company. She knows some of the others as well of course :smirk:

Zelem dropped though

Sending Clinton on loan seems a mistake in hindsight

So pleased for her. I hope she makes the Euros squad, but I am not sure about the extent of Williamson's injury, and we all know that Wiegman, like Skinner, has favourites.

That would be impressive from any players nevermind a CB. Although you also have to look at the type of passes she makes if low risk.

To be fair CBs more or less always have the highest pass success rate as they start the build-up and keep on passing the ball to the nearest free player untll the team finds an opening to go forward.

The position that draws the least amount of press from the opponent.

That's what I was thinking, although at least she does it efficiently which is more than you can say for some of our male defenders.

Regardless of what type of pass, it is very impressive to be best in WSL - especially for someone who plays pretty much every minute of every game

No coincidence she's in the England squad
