I just read on planetfootball.com that Milan are to make a bid of around 6.5 mil pounds. Although Fergie might be reluctant to let him go I think we need the money as we desperately need another striker. And since Ricardo has been signed and Roy Carrol has been impressive I say let Barthez go as he is too eccentric and too erratic. As soon as the transfer window opens we should go for either of the following players:

1.Andrei Shevchenko
2.Ronaldinho
3.Djibril Cisse

At the moment we are the third best team in England way behind Arsenal and even boring Liverpool are outscoring us. If we need to sell Veron then so be it because he has had plenty of time to prove himself and I am sick of defending him for over a year now. He is a great player but not for Man Utd's system. Our defense has definitely improved and I dont think we need more defenders coming in as Wes Brown and Rio will be back soon. We need some spark in attack and we need it soon.

2 points.
1. this should be in the transfer forum.
2. Bart has been excellent this season now he's properly fit. I wouldnt sell him, though im confident we have 2 good backup keepers.

OK, you get 6-7 million for Barthez, and you are going to try to get Shev, Ronaldinho or Cisse with that money??? Try and make some sense please, the cheapest of those players is Ronaldinho at anout 15 million pounds (minimum!), Cisse would go for approx 15 - 20 million (especially if he gets a few for france, and he's already said that Liverpool and Arsenal are his preffered destinations in England, and both Wenger (especially) and Houllier would take him if possible) and Shevchenko would cost anywhere from 25-35 million! NOW, how in god's name are you going to raise the extra cash? Veron woun't be sold for less than 25 million, and theres nobody to pay that amount!

The best thing you can do is recall that striker playing for Watford, and give him a go! Would make more sense than throwing even more cash down the drain!

Obviuosly the players I mentioned would cost more than 6-7 mil. But if you add that to the 12 mil we got for the Stam payment or if the PLC would give Fergie 10 mil or so then that sum just might come into play. Also if we dont sell Veron soon no one is going to pay more than 15 mil or so for him as he had a very poor WC as well. And the longer we wait on getting Ronaldinho, Cisse, or Shevchenko their prices will go up rapidly. As it is we paid 30 mil for Rio when for that price we could have gotten both Nesta and Cannavaro. So I just dont want us to be left wanting in the transfer market.

Sell Bart to Milan for those ghouls? Whose gonna man the Net? Nope, no one can man the Net like Bart!

Raise? Didn't we just a make 35 million quid profit. Lazio owe us 12 million that we should see quite a bit of before the window opens. Add in the money for Barthez if he goes.

If the PLC decide that they want to spend the money then it will happen. Not a question of raising money really.

And the PLC will no doubt be factoring in the money that you make from an extended run in the CL. We are already quaranteed to raise the 15 million quid they budgeted for.

I'm not convinced that we will spend large sums but raising the cash isn't really the issue. And the way the transfer market is at the moment loans, structured payments and the like are a fact of life for most clubs.

Wibbs.

The financial reports that have just been published didnt include the rio transfer. So the profit we got has been spent already. ;)

Why sell Barthez?

Yes he has made blunders etc in the past, but we havent seen enough of Ricardo to trust him and Roy Carrol hasnt had enough first team football - consistantly.
If Barthez is gonna go - I really cant see him going half way through a champions league campaign.

There are some very fickle supporters on this site.

Milan don't know what to do with Abbiati (third choice nat'nl team keeper) and now they're going to buy Barthez?
