According to 'Sky Sport', the surprise attacker that Adriano Galliani promised to the Milan fans in the past few days is Edinson Cavani.

This would be a surprise move by the Rossoneri who are still after Eto`o' and Shevchenko, but seem to be giving up on these star players and instead concentrate on other leads.

'Sky Sport' reported on Wednesday evening that Milan are now following Palermo's 20-year-old striker, Edinson Cavani, of Uruguay, who took part in the U-20 World Cup with his national team.

Cavani did not feature much in the first team last season, but in his few presences still managed to score two spectacular goals which caught the interest of various clubs.

Now the Rossoneri are hoping to land the Palermo attacker, with his price tag being around 9 million Euros. Apparently the European Champions will try to seal the deal during this weekend in order to sign the player as soon as possible.

Manchester City bid £19 million for Palermo striker Cavani

Manchester City have reportedly bid £19 million for Palermo striker Edinson Cavani .

According to Sky Sport Italia, Manchester City are set to beat Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of the Uruguayan.

The 23-year-old striker scored 13 goals in 34 games in Serie A last season as Palermo narrowly missed out on a Champions League place.

He has scored twice in 24 caps for his country, and could have a major impact at the upcoming World Cup in South Africa.

Cavani is contracted to Palermo until the end of season 2013/2014, but he has a buy-out clause in his contract worth £24m

As well as Manchester City and Tottenham, a host of other clubs, including Chelsea, Juventus, Roma, AC Milan and Manchester United, have been linked with the Uruguayan hitman.

Why in Gods name would city need another striker?

That is a dreadful record for a striker.

Even Emile Heskey has a better strike rate for England.

Cavani has signed for Napoli, loan move for next season then signs 4 year deal. Think the fee is around 15m euros, possibly rising as high 20m

I thought he looked decent in the WC, though he'd probably prosper playing in a two up front rather than a wide-ish three. Seems a somewhat sideways move, especially after he was linked with bigger clubs throughout the season.

Could never really understand why he was in the Uruguay team. The BBC and ITV kept showing it as a 4-3-3/4-3-1-2 for Uruguay but he was stuck well out on the right wing every time(except 3rd place play off on the left), and Forlan/Suarez were never primarily on the left like he was on the right. He got up and down that wing all day but he never really did anything. Looked like he might make a decent mobile front man but as a winger he was gash.

Decent record in Serie A though, think he's gotten 27 Serie A goals in the last 2 seasons which isn't bad for that league. He's always underperformed for Uruguay really. Agree that the fee seems excessive, but Napoli will have a pretty good attack next season with Hamsik, Lavezzi, Cavani and Quagliarella

It's a step sideways.

Napoli have a good history with Uruguayan players, there are a fair few who have settled down there and Gargano is even married to Hamsik's sister.

It will be a good place for him, Napoli have a decent side and are a very well (rabidly) supported side. He is young and it will be good to be in a "big club" without the pressures that would come from a large fee and moving to a big club competing for honours.

This.

Was the weakest link in their attack. Could not see why he was starting all games. (Perhaps, being such a small country, they just to not have a good alternative.)

You nailed it. If I had to explain Cavani's ideal role I would say it's the Drogba role. Yes, I know he is no Drogba, but my point is that clearly that's not how he was being deployed at the WC.

It wasn't his fault. We went to the WC with two players who were meant to provide the link in midfield but they were both lacking fitness. Lodeiro then got sent off (for a late challenge) in the France game and came back against Ghana only to break his foot within 5 minutes (stamped on) with us having no subs left.

It meant we were left with a team broken in midfield and unable to transition so Tabarez asked him to drop deep and help Forlan with this. He is not suited for it but was the best we had in the squad to help with the situation. He did look ordinary but worked his socks off for the team.

I was really gutted for him because out of all the players he was certainly the one losing value during our run, but he stayed disciplined never questioning his deployment or attempting to do his own thing. The few opportunities he had he was either fouled (and not given) or (wrongly) ruled offside.

The one time he finally had a chance to do his usual thing came against Germany, and he scored from it.

At the double before half against Juve today, he's been terrific this season from what I've seen.

Surely he's due a move somewhere big soon?

Harry's poking around (that goes without saying), would be a good move for Spurs.

Am I missing something?

That's neither a kick nor scorpion like.

Clearly

He dives under it and kicks it in with his right ankle. I think there's a bit of back in there too but theres no way you get that kind of power with the bottom of your back alone. It comes from his right boot.

You need to watch the replay as you cant see it properly in the normal angle. In fact 101greatgoals, goal.com and the guardian all reported it as a headed goal. Then 101greatgoals posted it up with the replay

Fair enough. It looks like a diving header to me, but I haven't seen it in better quality.

Napoli fans would go apeshit if he left.

He scored in stoppage time recently to place them second, right after a goal line clearance that would have seen them lose.

The commentary goes along the lines of "Matador, I love our Matador, the best of them all, goal of the century, the goal of the century by Cavani, our Messiah, our Messiah amongst us, with his sword always ready...".

Italians are hilariously passionate

Another at trick at the weekend for Cavani, this gut looks a great talent. Already has 24 goals this season, would be a cracking signing for any team but his value will have soared after his displays for Napoli. Only on loan there I think but surely Palermo would demand a massive transfer fee.

Surprised he moved sideways to Napoli, but I suspect that was due to Hernandez's development.
