Football is about glory, it is about doing things
Manchester United set to swoop for young Stabaek midfielder Mikkel Diskerud according to reports.

The youngster has been in exceptional form in the Tippeligaen, and has dual Norwegian and American nationality

He broke on the scene during Stabaek's brilliant title run last season and has carried on his form into this one (they play March-Oct)

Stabaek are holding out for around £2m-£2.5m

Is he the next Espen Hoff or the next Ole?

I can't find any mention of this in Norway, not even on Stabæk forums. We're supposed to be after AaFK's Danish keeper Anders Lindegaard, though.

Haven't heard anything about this, and I'm relatively ITK when it comes to Stabæk.

So you knew about Jønsson to Rosenborg? Well, everybody kind of knew, but did you really know?

He's meant to be capped by the US in their friendly against brazil. A good player by all accounts I've read. The US would do well to start grabbing any youngster with any ties to the country...

From another forum they are saying that Norwegian team SOGNDAL has placed a bid to his club STABÆK as a move to secure their top spot in their division. (No links for this story)

Another poster goes on to say this:
I looked into this, and it seems that SONGDAL are indeed very serious about signing Mix, either on loan or buying him. The contract dispute mentioned earlier in this thread seems like it may have caused a riff between Mix and Stabaek that SONGDAL are looking to exploit.

That being said, I can't imagine why he'd want to move at this point. Even in the midst of this contract dispute, he still holds a starting spot in the midfield. Wouldn't make much sense to move to a lower division club, especially since they could still be playing in the First Division next year.

Mix also started yesterday's match against league leaders Rosenborg, but was one of 3 injured players that had to be substituted early in the match. No word yet on how serious his injury is.

He is also supposedly in a contract dispute at the moment according to this article(please note I can not read it, just what someone said on another forum). Scoret på første cornerforsøk - Stabæk - Budstikka

Diskerud to Sogndal!

I like Diskerud, but I doubt he's United material. Stabæk have been a wreck this season. He's played a lot, but not in a well-functioning team.

EDIT: There's nothing about his contract in that link. It's about Diskerud scoring a goal from a corner.

There was another link, but it's not working anymore.

I hope he does play. We've missed out big time on several players who would have improved the team greatly by ignoring them.

I cannot find this in any Norwegian paper. Solskjaer and Mame Biram Diouf were both the best strikers in Norway when United signed them. This is not the case with this one, if he is a United target, it is for the reserves rather than the a-team, and I am not even sure if he come, because there is no way he is good enough for the a-team. I'd take Eikrem ahead of this one any day.

I first heard of this kid 2-3 years back. He had a profile on Yanks Abroad. He's apparently competed for both US and Norwegian U-xx sides in recent years. So he's probably weighing up which nation 1) he can accelerate to the national team quicker and 2) which has the better future. Unless it's something like Rossi (parental influence).

Asked a guy I know who works in Scandinavian football, and he was very sceptical. Said he's a decent player but nothing close to United level

Listen, it's not a case of "not United quality" here. This is not like being unsure whether van Der Vaart would be good enough. This is a player not even remeotely close to be considered for a Carling Cup squad and he never, ever will be.

Norwegian side Stabaek are aware of interest from England in their midfield prodigy Mikkel Diskerud, the America international who has caught Sir Alex Ferguson's eye in the past.
The youngster earned a professional contract with the club in 2008 and since then has developed into one of the most promising players in the Norwegian league.
Manchester United are thought to be keen on Diskerud, who has chosen to play for America at international level despite having the option to play for home country Norway, and Ferguson's extensive contacts in Scandinavia have kept him aware of the midfielder's potential.
Diskerud, 20, is contracted to Stabaek until 2012. Sources in Norway suggest the club have been approached by two unnamed Premier League teams regarding Diskerud's contract situation.
It is understood that Stabaek are keen on offering the promising midfielder a contract extension on the proviso he would be allowed to leave if a major European club met an inserted release clause, with the likelihood of a further sell-on clause being added to the new deal.

Most likely complete and utter bullshit.

For the US, he was one of the better players in a group of really young guys. It doesn't say much since I've only seen him play a few matches. We might get a better view if he's selected for the US for the Mexico or Belgium games(I doubt it though).

He did well for the US from the game I saw in South Africa. Senor Bob hasn't brought him back since I don't think, but as he favors players, that's no indication of quality.

Don't see him being United quality to be honest. Hasn't shown that spark enough. He posts on BigSoccer.com as "Mixx" if you want to ask him personally :)

I have only watched him a few times as well and he has been OK but nothing out of this world. Maybe SAF is planning on an American revolution if he brings in Mix and then Gatt and Cunningham

From Noshortcorners.com:

You also may well have also heard that (gasp!) Manchester United were among some English clubs recently checking out Stabæk's Mikkel Diskerud. For now, I am going to talk a bit mysteriously about this case - in part because I do not have every fact out there on this yet and in part because I'm a tricky card player.

So here is what I will say, let's hope the Daily Mail doesn't run it two days from now with me saying he's already off to somewhere. I cannot confirm that United are scouting him hard, but I get the essence they might have been 'round (of course, they may have been to see someone else and Mix caught an eye - you never know if that goes anywhere). You may remember Dutch reports had AZ supposedly slobbering over Bedoya at a time. Techincal director Earnie Stewart admitted to me that he had indeed been in the house for an Örebro match, just not with the intention to see Bedoya, who would score in the game - perhaps he commented on the player favorably, some scribe overheard and ran with it to the logical extreme. This could end up being one of those dynamics, it's too soon to know what to believe. If I can admit that, you should know not to get overheated just yet thinking he is a real target for Sir Alex.

I will today offer my firm word that he, in fact, has charmed admirers in more than one country you all would nod approvingly toward. And yes, I can go ahead and say one of them is England. That's all you'll get from me on this subject for now.
