Greatest American hockey player ever. I was fortunate to see him live a dozen times or so, including one game where he went end-to-end and scored an amazing goal (against Colorado if memory serves, circa 2002).

I can't imagine how many more goals and points he'd have had he not sacrificed his all-out attacking game to be more defensive and fit into the Stars schemes. He'd been up there with Jagr and the likes. Or imagine had he played for Detroit his whole career with all those great supporting players around him.

My favorite player and for me obviously the best who ever played the game..

He got me into following the Stars and the NHL when I was only 4-5 years old.. I remember in the middle of cartoons there was this program called "NHL Power Week" in which Modano and the Stars just stuck with me the most. This was the first sports team I ever followed and it was great to have that own club and for me thats very important even today..

Mike was the talisman and thus became the player I was most interested in. His fast skating style and a great wrist-shot was his trademark which made him so beautiful to watch. I'd had to had the same kind of skates as him(CCM 652) and also bought a Stars' jersey to top that off.

In 2010 I kind of knew that it was going be the last season for him so I managed to get some money together and finally saw him play live.. I swear I almost cried when he came out of the tunnel for the warm-ups. In that first game it was 0-1 to LA in the 3rd period when suddenly he passed the puck between his legs and Morrow put it in to tie the game..WOW

Great player.. Loved watching him and Dallas during their heyday.

Not to be a dick, but I'm not sure I agree with him being the best American hockey player ever though. Chelios was amazing back in ancient times.
