Sir Alex Ferguson sent his brother, Martin, to run the rule over Rayo Vallecano midfielder Michu on Saturday.

Sportsmail revealed Premier League interest in the 25-year-old in December and the attacking midfielder has continued to impress, with 13 goals this season.

Oviedo-born Michu, full name Miguel Perez Cuesta, has also attracted interest from Liverpool but United look the most serious about making a move, with Ferguson arriving in Spain at 4pm on Saturday to watch the 3-0 win over Real Betis.

He then saw Real Madrid held 1-1 by Malaga on Sunday night.

Sir Alex is eager to inject more speed into his team and is monitoring Lille right back Mathieu Debuchy, 26.

Brazil striker Leandro Damiao is also a target.

His name seems familiar but I can't seem to recall seeing him play, any Rayo watchers here?

one thing that is certain is we are trying to play with more speed, Berbas agent confirmed this. We need technical players, is he a good passer?

He read the interview with Berbatov's agent, that's where he took the "he is eager to inject more speed..." part. No quotes, etc.

EDIT: Damn you, Relevated.

I can't wait to see Michu play with Bebe and Nani. Its such a pity that Mame was sold.

We should also keep an eye on Nene, Dede and Dodo.

Seen him a few times. He's their most important player, playing behind a striker and supporting him to score the bulk of their goals. Wouldn't say he's good enough for us but he's one of those players with dangerous movement and often finds himself on the end of a simple chance to tuck it away.

I certainly wouldnt say so. But different positions. From what I've seen Michu could do a good job at a team like Atletico, Villarreal, Sevilla or Malaga. I'd say Valencia too but only because Canales has been out with long term injury. For me that seems to be his kind of level and I'd be surprised if the likes of ourselves or City were seriously interested in him unless it was to say replace Berbatov as a backup.

Then again he may be able to play as a normal central midfielder, I just havent seen it myself. So I'm just thinking of him supporting a striker

Decent player. £3m would be alright for backup, but I don't see the point in going for him.

Shit name. I would hate to get him for that reason alone. Sounds like a crap Pokemon.

I saw his youtube video. Sad to say it's one of the most underwhelming videos i've ever seen, and youtube can make Emile Heskey and Carlton Cole a great player

Apparently going to Swansea for £2m. Will probably turn out to be the bargain of the season. Can't understand why Everton aren't going for him, could've been a good Cahill replacement.

Looked a very good player for a poor side last season. Could well prove to be a bagain. Surprised no Spanish team took a punt on him, TBH.

Naismith on a free. Barkley can also play there if need be.

Not much money kicking around in the Spanish market at the moment. Atletico and Sevilla were supposed to be interested but I guess that interested was where it stopped.

I think Swansea have made a good deal there.

Athletico?

Sevilla shouldn't be allowed to buy anyone until they pay what they owe for other players they've bought.
