Sir Alex Ferguson is being linked with a move for Brazil winger Michel Bastos as he looks to add more creativity to his midfield.

Lyon are very keen to keep him as he has only been there a year following his move from Lille, but would be hard pushed to turn down a substantial offer, especially if it were in the region of the £22m being talked about.

Ferguson would have to move quickly if he really wanted Bastos as he is in the Brazil squad for the World Cup and a successful competition would see his value soar on the open market.

Hardly a joke of a player, he's a Brazil regular international, excellent going forward but a calamity defensively. He works well in Brazil's system as the full back, with the defensive midfielders covering him if he goes charging off. Doubt he's be worth that kind of money though.

Define excellent, just because he scored a goal against the mighty Zimbabwe it doesn't make him an excellent forward. We could do far better than Bastos if indeed we are in the market for a left footed winger. Besides he is too lightweight

Was excellent in his last season at Lille I thought, looked quality on either wing. Bit of a late developer but not a bad player by any means.

We'd never buy him though.

He's not a joke of a player. His versatility is what hinders him the most as he's been shifted from right/left wing left back this season. An outstanding shot on his foot but he needs to be maintained in one position to perform well.
Lyon paid big (for a transfer in France) to acquire him and surely with Aulas he will only sell for a fat benefit

He's not a real left back. That'll be like signing Bale to replace Evra. He's much better on the wing. Would bring some much needed danger outside the box for one thing. Never mind long free kicks.

We wouldn't be signing him to replace Evra anyway, a left footed player would come handy at the minute but I don't think it'll be Bastos.

How much he's worth now and he's 28 already, isn't he? Doesn't fit in United's recent policy in buying players

That blond Portugese in the World Cup looks quite a prospect though, think he's playing for Benifa now

Seems failry well known that Evra allegedly wants away so we'll be linked with just about every left back in world football.

The kid from Benfica looked ok in the world cup apart from not being able to defend.

Much like the press were certain Vidic was leaving us despite coming out and denying it time and time and time again?

He'll sign a new contract.

:nono:

He has never said that in any interviews that I have seen. Its all reported in words, no videos proof whatsoever.

French friends at work have said Fergie's men have been following him.

They're incredibly excited about the prospect of him playing in the Premier League.

Though they also think Chamakh is a better forward than Drogba...so...err...go figure.
