Why are so many folks here so cocksure that we are going to buy Mexes next summer?

Maybe cocksure is a little strong but the impression I get from reading several posts here smacks of a lot of confidence in our getting Mexes to join us

Fergie is gonna to be back soon from holiday ... and all the hype and rumours will start to hot up ... Expect some players really this time round - very much different from last season ... This will be the 2nd time after the last when Arse get the double ...

Hoping anxiously .... Anybody though - I trust Fergie's judgement most of the time .. ;)

Because this is one young starlet that I feel we are actually going for. We are always linked to every starlet, but nothing happens - this one seems for real. Fergie's been tracking him personally for 2/3 years and that means he wants him. I think Fergie might get his man. Guy Ruox has also said that Mexes WILL be a Man Utd player in the Summer of 2003. Sounds pretty conclusive to me. These Auxerre youngsters seem to have their career mapped out for them dont they...

However I'm not that confident with Utd, never am, cos anything can and usually does happen here. I hear that Juve and Roma are going after him now, I reckon Roma are just behind us to get him. But a year can change many things. Mexes has said he slightly prefers Roma cos he supports them or likes the city, something like that. But who knows.

I dont even know where he will fit in if we get Rio.

Has Fergie ever stated that he is interested in Mexes? I haven't come across anything of that sort

Popular opinion in redcafe is that blanc will stay for one more season and then be replaced with mexes so that's how the french starlet is going to slot into our side.

Personally, I think an entirely different scenario will unfold

I dont know about the replacing Blanc, I dont even take Blanc into account.

All I know is this is the best defensive youngster in the world and we have to get him.

Fergie hasnt stated publically he is interested, I dont think most people would know who he was talking about and he's not gonna say it for no reason.

Mexes and Guy Ruox have said that Fergie keeps in regular contact and is very interested in signing him. Mexes was told by Fergie that he really wants him at Man Utd and the player said he was flattered and would think about it when the time comes.

I even think he has been to OT to visit, not sure.

Just know that for once, Fergie is going for a young wonderkid, lets hope we get him, even if we miss out on Cisse.

Mexes has indeed been a long target for ferguson ... and i hope he realli gets him soon or other clubs like juventus wld snap him up ...

If Fergie is all-out to capture this wonderkid, he should sign him now but with the condition that mexes will join us next summer

Let's not dally especially with all the real and milan vultures lurking around

Todays' TribalRubbish site says:
Juventus are preparing a move for long-term Manchester United target, Philippe Mexes of Auxerre.
The French U21 skipper has been tracked by United for almost two years and his representatives have maintained regular contact with club officials.

However, the stylish defender has emerged as a major priority for Juve, who have identified Mexes as the best young defensive talent on the continent.

The Turin giants are reportedly seeking a pre-contract with Mexes, which will see the player at Juve for the start of the 2003/04 season.

Imagine us getting Thuram for £20m and them replacing him with Mexes for very little. I think if we really are that interested in him then we should get a pre-contract on him, before Juve or Liverpool get in there.

1. Forget Thuram. He ain't Coming!!!
2. Neither is Rio. Leeds will not sell 'im to us end of story :p
3. That leaves us with Nesta or Hofland.
4. Mexes is est for Old trafford in 2003. His manager said that is where the lad wants to go and thats the only party he is willing to sell hinm too. :D

Like everyone else I've been hearing the rumours for a couple of years, and the story that LeRoux expected him to join us in 2003, but as was said a lot can happen in one season.

Even if we signed a player like Rio, I'd still say go for Mexes though they are similar; both leader types with class on the ball, Mexes has more aggression- they would compliment well IMO. And Rio(assuming he comes) has enough experience to now to bring on Mexes, and even more by 2003, having won the CL and PL with United. :)
Another variable is who will partner the new CB next season, if Blanc is the main partner there would be an opening for a CB when Blanc steps down, if Brown or O'Shea even start to form a good partnership(eg. say Blanc gets injured) with the new CB, then we may not go for Mexes, with two decent young CBs already in place- though to be honest neither are in Mexes class.

Actually if I had to chose between Mexes and Cisse I'd take Mexes,- for the charachter he would bring.
