planetfootball, say according to his agent United have 4 reps at the U21 championship, Mexes being a top target. Roma have also maintained their interest, although Fergusons' is favourite to sign him next year.

I would think the possibility of Thurham and Mexes, forming a partnership would be attractive to both as they could carry that over to the French team, allowing Turham to continue his at CB, and Mexes to get his going.

4 reps. to the U21 is a good news really ... I hope the scouts also at the same time pin-point some less known players worth a try out .. .as they won't command astronomical transfer fee then ...

The Swiss especially ... haven't got chance to watch them play - not sure if they are playing "systematic" and "defensive" football which lead them to the Semi ... but thinking that they beat Portugal by 2 goals - I would think they are couple of upcoming stars there in the team ...

Hope the scouts do their job !!

I take it you think we will only purchase Thuram this season and play him alongside Blanc. Most people here think we will bring in two CBs (Thuram and Ayala being most touted). If that is the case, where would Mexes fit in next season, especially with Brown and O'shea stating their case?

I'm not sure we could get him next season if we had Thurham and Ayala- they are at their peak, and have a good 3 years left at the top level, that partnership would be untouchable for a few seasons.

Thurham/Blanc would be just for a season if it happened, if then we still want Mexes(and it sounds like SAF is keen) the way is clear, and like I was saying it would benefit both Mexes and Thurham in their national careers, possibly forming the new France CB pairing albeit for a short time.

As far as Brown and O'Shea stating their cases- they're good, but they can't touch Mexes for talent, and we should always go for the best. Lets hope O'Shea and Brown can keep going because it helps the team spirit when players come through like them.

Mexes said he will see out his last year at Auxerre and Join Man Utd next year. (rom a HIGLY RELIABLE source) :D

He is the mext Blanc with the speed Blanc has never had. He will turn our defence into a legendary outfit ;) :)

Says who???? Gigs at 17 was. Why not a 19 year old defender.

Is Mexes in the France u21 squad? I saw their game yesterday vs Swiss and he wasn't playing, is he in the squad alteast?

I must've slept through the part when the PLC mandated that all players be older than Mexes. ;)

do you think mexes might be temted to come this year, to take over from blanc gradually with his idol's help.

this could be the reason fergie wanted blanc to stay desperately, maybe blanc could be our defensive coach next year.

No - I think he and Cisse will stay on at Auxerre for another year. Auxerre will play in the CL next year (I think), which will surely be a good lure for them to stay.

maybe thats why fergie wanted thuram so badly aswell, because basicaly if he came to united he would be playing with 2-3 france first team regulars, that play in defnse, micky, barthez and thuram (hopefully).

Not to mention his idol blanc, maybe cisse would see that we have more french players than arsenal and liverpool, if mexes came.

maybe mexes could put a word in?

also on a side note i think really that thuram may have been told that zidane would be staying at juve but, he was sold so maybe thta was one of the other reason why he wanted to leave.

Not lure enough when you could go to a team that is ready to win it ;) :D
