Manchester United are competing in the Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup in Stuttgart with a powerful Under-19 squad travelling to Germany for the six-a-side tournament.
The Reds also took part last year with five members of the 2013 squad - Joel Castro Pereira, Liam Grimshaw, Ben Pearson, James Weir and James Wilson - also involved this time around.
Eight clubs are represented in total with United drawn in Group B alongside Fluminense, Schalke and Borussia Dortmund. The German sides looked particularly skilled at the short-form game in last year's competition as the Reds' youngsters became more comfortable with the format as the event wore on.
The group games take place this Sunday before the second phase of fixtures on Monday.
Squad: Joel Castro Pereira, Dean Henderson; Liam Grimshaw, Paddy McNair; Ben Pearson, Joe Rothwell, Josh Harrop, Andreas Pereira, James Weir, Matthew Willock; Sam Byrne, James Wilson.

United's Group B fixtures on Sunday:
v. Fluminense (13:14)
v. Schalke (14:00)
v. Borussia Dortmund (16:18)

* Local times (1hr ahead of GMT)

There were official streams for these games last year so I guess it's likely there will be this year as well.

We'll probably play 4-4-2 anyway.

I hope the lads will benefit from such experience, part of them will be our future and such small-games surely will help them understand each other even better. Fantastic thing just like Youth CL.

13:14 and 16:18 kick-offs. fecking Germans.

Lost 2-1 to Shalke and beat Dortmund 3-2 (after being 2-0 down I think)
we play Freiburg at 4:45.

strong to win 2 out of those first 3 matches - and really important to get a lot of international experience already at this level.

U19s sparkle in Germany

Manchester United's youngsters put in an impressive shift during the opening day of the Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup on Sunday.

The Under-19 squad excelled in the six-a-side tournament to set up a meeting with FC Zurich on Monday at midday.

After a 2-0 win against Brazilian side Fluminense in the Group B opener, Nicky Butt's teenagers were narrowly beaten 2-1 by Schalke. In the crucial final group clash with Borussia Dortmund, with the two teams level on the same points, the Germans took a 2-0 lead. However, in true Manchester United fashion, a barnstorming comeback yielded late goals for James Wilson, Paddy McNair and, dramatically, Ben Pearson to clinch a crucial 3-2 triumph.

Group A outfit Freiburg were up next but were put to the sword 4-0 by the rampant Reds to round off a fabulous day for the youngsters.

We lost 1-0 to Zurich today. Apparently we did something weird/controversial.. For reasons apparently unbeknownst to anyone it seems our players stood in their own halves and let Zurich pass the ball around the whole time and we made no effort to get the ball. Some sort of protest or tactics/in a better position if we lose the match or something.

Wasn't home to watch the game, but that sounds incredibly bizarre. Guessing Butt threw it because the result didn't matter? Still, not a great attitude to have - particularly not in youth football - and not a great way to present the club.

I don't get it, how did we go through then and why would we do that?

That fecking chicken ad  No big chances for either team first half. Some good moments from United, but apart from a shot straight at their keeper nothing really came of it.

The producer should be sacked. Going to replay when United are countering and in their half.

Hi, I see some people in the mains are confused why we didn't attack against Zurich when we were 1-0 down. It's because we would have been out of the tournament if we conceded more goals. So were happy to lose 1-0 because it was enough for us and when didn't want to take any risks of conceding another goals. Not a great way to represent our club though. The German commentator is speaking bad about us since we did that, because it meant that Dortmund went out.

Finishes 0-0. What are the rules at 6 a side? ET? Pens?

Edit: Penalties it is

So penalties here are about the same as outdoors then, it seems. 3-1, we missed three and they scored all they tried.

Surprise, surprise. The Germans beat us on penalties

3rd/4th place match will be on after the game that's on now, I think

Tight game, unsurprisingly Pereira looked like our most futsalesque player though Pearson showed some impressive stuff in this tournament last year.

Is there a 3rd place play-off?

and 2-0. Zurich tried some high pressure, but the ball was eventually played out of defence and Pereira was alone with the keeper.

3-2! Well worked goal. Almost 4-2 at the very last second, but ends 3-2 and United come third.

Weir (?) scores with 17 seconds left and United win 3-2!

Good game. Harrop and McNair the stand-outs. McNair is an interesting player. Inexperienced at center-back but very skillful.

How was harrop, was his close ball control good?

Who was our #3? I was impressed by him.

I was at the semi and consolation game yesterday. Was very interesting in that we were the only side man marking on defense, all the other teams played some type of zonal marking. Skill wise quite a few of our players stood out, from an organizational standpoint the Zurich team in pink really looked solid.

Was a fantastic location for the game and really was an enjoyable afternoon even if the results were not spot on.

Edit- Oh and about the Zurich game. I was not there, but my friends who were there told me simply a case where both teams were thru with order already determined and just saving themselves for the semis.

Are there any highlights of this knocking about? Gutted I missed it.
