Massive Moto GP crash: RIP Marco Simoncelli

As football fans alike, we share in a sport where the greatest injury inflicted, are those that can leave us on the sideline. We should be so lucky that as hard the sport is, we can go home after every game to lick our wounds.

RIP Marco Simoncelli

A Young Life taken too soon.

From being hit by Colin Edwards.

The fact that they haven't airlifted him yet makes it even scarier.

fecking muppets at moto gp won't tell the fecking crowd that they cancelled the race because he's in such a serious condition so they're all jeering and booing.

I have a friend working at the paddock as a GT-girl and she tweeted that he's dead. Not sure if true.

On the other hand....local reporter for local TV station saying he's fighting for his life.

That looks awful, he's not even moving...

The Malaysian MotoGP has been cancelled after a horrific crash which left Italian rider Marco Simoncelli in a critical condition in Sepang.

World champion Casey Stoner said: "When the red flag came out, we thought it was a bit of rain on the circuit.

"We can only hope and pray he's OK. Hopefully everything will be all right. The fact they've cancelled the race is not looking good."

Fellow racer Tony Elias said: "We have to wait. It was a difficult crash."

He added: "I hope Marco is OK."

Awful feeling having to see a person lay motionless. :( Last time it happened was when I saw Puerta collapse.

Did they just announce it to the crowd? Sorry but our local broadcast has been cut off since the race has been cancelled.

I still can't understand how the helmet could be off. I mean......yeah, how?!

I think the impact of Edwards hitting him from behind was just too much. He must have suffered severe head, neck and back injuries due to that hit at such a high speed from behind.

Edwards crashing into him just took it off. It was horrifying to watch. Moto GP isn't safe :(

I don't think any of the motorsports racing are safe. But I guess you could say Moto GP is the least safe of them all.

This was more a freak accident then anything. It was very strange that the bike gripped and came back across the circuit.

All motorcyclists know the risks though. It's testament to the safety procedures that these incidents don't happen more often on the track. If this happens on lap 6 or 7, Simoncelli continues on to the grass and only crashes out.

There was another accident earlier this year as well. Not a good year for Moto Gp :(

I can't believe this, freak accident and nothing anyone could do.

RIP Marco.

David De Gea on Twitter:

moncelli descansa en paz... Nuestro pesame para toda su familia... Se va un grande del motociclismo
RIP Moncelli... Condolences to his family... He was a great motorcycle racer.

RIP Sideshow Bob - best years of his career ahead of him, starting to put it together on the track, and then gone, just like that :(

What a week for motorsport...

I'm sure it's been already said, but you knew he was in big trouble as soon as they showed his helmet had come off.

Spare a thought for Colin Edwards & Rossi too.

Just seen this...fecking awful and such a massive loss. Terrible for Rossi and Edwards.

Awful news. The helmet coming off in itself must have caused some damage. Really feel for Rossi and Edwards and thoughts go out to Simoncelli's family.
RIP.

Thats horrifying, can't think what Edwards must be feeling right now :(

Not to mention Rossi.

Apparently they were close friends which is understandable seeing as they were from the same country.

Reporter from BBC says Rossi hasn't spoken to anyone at all so far and it wouldn't be a surprise if he considered retiring.
