Barnsley defender Mason Holgate undergoing medical at Everton.

Everton are close to sealing a deal for Barnsley defender Mason Holgate, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The 18-year-old, who is also wanted by Bournemouth, spent the summer on trial at Manchester United and is highly regarded by a host of Premier League clubs.

Holgate made 22 appearances for Barnsley last season and has been likened to John Stones.
