Tidied it all up a bit, hope it helps

Isn't usually any highlights. Probably won't find out the squad until the tournament's up and running.

Lost the first game 2-0 to Ajax. Real Madrid next up tomorrow morning, who also lost their first game (to Feyenoord).

The squad:

Daniel Atkinson, Joshua Harrop, Nicolas Ioannou, Joe Rothwell (captain), Matthew Wilkinson, Ben Barber, Ryan Shields, James Weir, Daniel O Brien, Ben Pearson, John Pritchard, Michael Starkey, Elliot Chadderton, James Wilson, Omar Thompson, louis Rowley.

Elliott Chedderton could be a young boy who is part of Royton's waterpolo-team. Right age at least - and there can't be many with that name :)

Won 1-0 against Real Madrid who have Enzo Zidane (son of Zinedine) in their squad.

2-0 win against Konoplev and United will qualify for the semi-finals for the first time ever - if they avoid defeat against Twente in the final game. Correction: Sorry my mistake - there are 2 games left...

2-0 win over Twente. Ajax lost to Madrid. Not sure on the other result, but they're joint top now and a point should be enough against Feyenoord to make the semis (might not even need that).

United won the group after drawing 1-1 against Feyenoord while Ajax lost to Twente

Second group not yet finished so still unclear who we play at 12.15 CET

It's Brondby in the semis, kicked off twenty minutes or so ago. Fingers crossed. Best performance we've had here in many years anyway (ever?).

Best performance ever - by a mile. I think I read that United's best performance was 6th - and the last couple of seasons were horrible...didn't we end up around 10th both times ?

Yeah, hasn't been a great last couple of years. Not sure on the results for the earlier years of the tournament or if we were even involved but it's certainly the best showing in the last 6/7 years. Actually looking on the site, it says 6th is our best performance so yeah.

Lost 2-1 in the semi unfortunately, so it's a 3rd/4th playoff later.

Auxerre wins Marveld Tournament 2010

French team wins twice in a row

For the second time in a row French Auxerre managed to win the prestigious Marveld Tournament under 15. They ended their group phase winning leavind Danish Bröndby on the second spot. The two met each other Sunday morning in the final group match which ended undecided 0-0. In the Finale match Auxerre made the decision by scoring the 1-0 in the first half. This was also the edn result when referee Luinge whistled the end signal.
Auxerre also won the Fairplay cup. Their behaviour as well on the fields as in the canteen and the entire complex was outstanding.

Best player and best goal keeper

Various scouts looked out on the soccer fields of Groenlo te search for the best soccer player and the best goalkeeper of the tournament. They unanimously selected Ajax number ten, Tobias Christiaansen as the best player of 2010. Tobias was always available to receive the ball. When he didn’t had a ball he was always searching the free space, he runs quickly, always looking for the combination and he coaches his teammates well. This makes him a complete soccer player.

The appointment of the best tournament goalie was more difficult. There were several formidable guys in the various goals this weekend. In the end the scout team the chose PSV keeper Zeus de la Paz. According to the jury Zeus has charisma, he gives the proper instructions to his teammates and he exudes confidence.

Most Valuable Player and Incentive prize

Most Valuable Player 2010 (sv Grol) became Jorn Reijerink. Jorn is steady as a rock, dominates in the air, is a die-hard with a special sense of humour and has a great mentality.

The incentive prize this year goes to Stan van Lent. Stan has played a good tournament and as a C1 player he is already one of the best of the Grol selection. He has excellent kicking techniques, was always first in the battle and has run lots of meters in recent days. With his good attitude, he is an example for the group.

Manchester United happy with third position

For the eighth time the youth team from Manchester United came to Groenlo. Their highest position until now was the sixth. So they were therefore hugely delighted when they won their group phase on Sunday morning. In the semi-finals they stumbled upon the Danish Bröndby which was too strong for them. However in the consolation finals they managed to beat Ajax, the team from whom they had lost in the groupmatch. Manchester United was delighted to reach the third position. Ajax took the fourth spot in the final standings.

Anderlecht and Twente fought for fifth spot

Belgium's Anderlecht and FC Twente battled for fifth and sixth place. It was the first time they met in this tournament. With a 2-0 victory Anderlecht became fifth and FC Twente occupied the sixth position. The Dutch teams Feyenoord and PSV met each other during the game for seventh and eighth place. PSV managed to win this match 2-0 and took the seventh position, befor Rotterdam.

Grol proud of tenth position

Home team Grol ended her group phase with 3 points this year. In a thrilling match against Galatasary, which referee Johnson never seemed to end, both Mathijs Warnar and Mark Peters netted the ball. Therefore Grol met last years losing finalist Real Madrid in the match for the night position. Real ended this game with a 2-0 winning while Grol can be very proud on reaching the tenth position.

Foreign debutant close rankings

Two foreign newcomers closed the ranking this year. Turkey's Galatasaray didn’t manage to win a game in their group. Last Friday Konoplev from Russia began the tournament well when beating Twente. Unfortunately they did not managed to go ahead and eventually they won the game for the 11th place from Galatasaray.

The Marveld Tournament under 15 organisation can once again look back on a successful tournament. Many visitors came to Groenlo to see the 21st Marveld Tournament, there were no serious injuries, the atmosphere was formidable and most important: for three days one could witness fantastic football on the various fields.
