Martinez taking our goal kicks has been a noticeable strategy this season. He’ll normally start the play from the back by passing to De Gea and then moving out wide. It’s an interesting strategy which I’ve not seen others teams doing (unless I’ve missed it).
Im guessing the thinking behind it is the fact it’s harder to press the two CBs by using this approach as the striker has to press the GK while Martinez spreads out wide and becomes an open option.
If De Gea was to take the GK then the 2 forwards can press the 2 CBs immediately.
