Martin Edwards Resigns!

I hope that this is true - have you got a link?

Some bloke once told me that Lou Edwards meat factory had such a bad reputation that the people who worked there refused to steal meat from there

The tw@t still got the contract to supply meat to all the schools in Manchester and Salford though

Rent-a-gob Docherty is on TalkSport at the moment giving his 2 bob.

He's just called Keane a thug.

Quote on Keane

'..once a thug, always a thug'

When asked if Keanes claim to be a changed man when he returns to the team.

He also thinks that Martin Edwards was a great chairman and was the reason behind Fergie's success due to writing the cheques.

This would be the same Edwards who signed Bosnich without consulting Fergie, and listened to Brian Kidds concerns that John Hartson might be a better option than Dwight Yorke.

he wasnt even a very good business man ...tried to sell out twice ....criticised Ferie regularly , preferred rugby

No tears for Edwards

Former chief executive Edwards quits United board

Martin Edwards has today resigned as a non-executive director of Manchester United plc.

Edwards, a former chief executive of the Old Trafford club, will step down from his position at the plc with immediate effect. In a statement to the Stock Exchange, United also revealed Edwards will retire from the board of the football club at the end of the current season.

Edwards joined United in 1970 when he was elected to the board and a decade later became chairman when his father Louis, the club's majority shareholder, died.

Edwards has been close to leaving the club before, having agreed to sell United in the past, only to see bids from Robert Maxwell, Michael Knighton and Rupert Murdoch fall through.

Two years ago he stepped down as chief executive to hand over the reins to Peter Kenyon, just weeks after the club's value broke the £1 billion barrier.

Not very fair. Fergie would not have allowed anyone to make any squad changes without asking him, so I doubt he just found he had bosnich one day.

As for Kiddo, Edwards listened - and then turned directly to Fergie to ask what is all that about.

Edwards was never a favourite of mine either, but he's not the monster he was made to be.

No monster he wasn't...
but never interested in football, nor this club.

Bye bye tosser, no one miss's ya.

Well he did make at least one excellent desision;

He hired Alex Ferguson.

It could have been worse; we could have had Leeds chairman! ;)

There was a story about him in the tabloids last Sunday. A prostitute has told her night with him.I think it's the reason why he quits.

I don`t like Martin Edwards for a number of reasons, including the way he tried to hawk Manchester United to the highest bidder including that scumbag Murdoch, and his hobby of going into women`s toilets and perving on the occupants.

Really, for that he should have been asked by Manchester United to step down some time ago. A pervert is a pervert and it does not matter whether he holds a powerful position within Manchester United.

However, as far as his influence and work within the club goes, he was not all bad. Yes, I know there are bitter memories of the Edwards` family unscrupulous business tactics (ripping off the Busby family over a shop is one - bloody disgraceful) and there is much resentment over the Edwards family gaining control over the club through buying the shares initially,

However, don`t forget those shares were in effect worthless until brought together in a significant block. Edwards lost money for some time through his financial interest in the club and recouped it in the 90s. He is not Sir Alex`s best friend (thank God!) but although the two differed on a number of things at different times, Edwards also gave Sir Alex the time for team building.

Patience is not known at a number of clubs but thanks to the leeway given Sir Alex initially, this club stands proudly at the helm of English football today.

I am glad Martin Edwards is gone and Manchester United should not have tolerated his pervert behaviour. However, his influence on the club in terms of administrative and footballing decisions had positive effects that can be seen today.

He and Ferguson got along like a house on fire in the early days.
