Mario Mandzukic

I think this is a great replacement of Diego Costa. He will prob not score as many free-running goals as Costa, and they might need to change abit, but he's a great box-striker.

Good move for Mario I think. He will come good for them. Lot of our players in La liga now like in the good old days. :)

Don't rate him that much. Think he'll struggle without the incredible support he had at Bayern.

I've not seen enough of him really, just the occasional CL match where tactics and roles tend to be different. However, I always got the impression he's more of a "good in the box" player, rather than an all round forward. Is that right?

Hes a decent player and was a good player before he went to Bayern. Don't see why he would struggle, not a world beater, but he is a very good hard working player.

He's an absolute monster in the air, one of the best around and works extremely hard for the team. He's an excellent finisher too and generally a danger in the box.

I think he's a good player but won't quite good it for Atletico.

Yeah struggle was harsh, what I really mean is he won't be on the level of some of their forwards in the past; Torres, Aguero, Falcao, Costa.

Guess you can't really argue with that, those were some players!

Wouldn't call him an all round forward, but he usually moves wide a lot and can hit a decent cross. He's not the most technical forward, but his workrate and movement makes up for it, calling him a poacher wouldn't be fair. He's an excellent header of the ball and a decent finisher. I think he would have been a good fit in Atletico's team last season. Not a bad choice to replace Costa. They definitely lose the dribbling and 'can create something on his own' ability though.

He's good in the box yeah, great in the air and a good finisher. Thing is he's not that in making a chance for himself nor you'll see him scoring from long range often. On the other hand he really works hard, moves a lot , works for the team and harasses defenders the whole game. A true defensive forward so to say. :)
THe thing is although he is a good finisher he's not a poacher.

If he'll be given a good support which I'm sure he will I think he will come good for Atletico.

That's true but if he'll score around 20 goals for Atletico next season I'm sure they wont complain.

Atleti have always struck gold with strikers, I'm positive he'd do well there.

Interesting destination for him, I knew he would be leaving Bayern this year, but wouldn't have thought it would be to Atletico. Good business by both sides I'd say. Hopefully he will do well in La Liga, will be interesting to see how Simeone implements him.

What a welcome by Atletico youth. :)

He's a tireless worker who'll leave his all on the pitch. No wonder Simeone signed him.

Don't rate him, I don't really rate Costa that much either but I think he's a good match for this team.

Really good signing for them, suits them very well and he is also a dirty bastard like Costa, he will be good in Simeone's team.

Don't know what you mean by support, but he'll get much more service and he'll reach actual strikers numbers in shots on goal next season.

Lewa got all the service at Dortmund, now he will have to share his shots with Robben, Ribery, Gotze..

Big change and a big challenge for both of them, it will be interesting to watch..

For Juve fans this signing is probably tolerable as they already have Morata and Dybala.

Juve has a real hard-on for slow strikers.
Tevez and Morata are hardly slow and Dybala is actually quite rapid. Llorente and Matri are the slow ones but that's not really a big deal as Llorente is used as a sub every now and then and Matri only plays against lower quality opposition.

Didn't know they had bought Dybala but Morata, Llorente and Matri are all slow players. Tevez isn't slow but he's also not fast. That's still 3 in 4.

Not only the current strikers but the previous ones as well. Can't think of many pacey strikers in recent years. Then again, Serie A is a slow league :smirk:

Bayern lost UCL 2012 final: Signed Mandzukic

Atlético lost UCL 2014 final: Signed Mandzukic

Juventus lost UCL 2015 final: Signed Mandzukic

Maybe it's just me, but I think this is a poor signing for Juve. I think he'll last 2 seasons at a max there.

Do you really need quick strikers in Serie A? Luca Toni had 22 goals there last season... :D

It's not strictly necessary but pace merchants always tend to do well here. Look at Gervinho or Cuadrado or Salah. Luca Toni had a purple patch this season. Doubt he'll continue this run next year.

They tend to do well for a short period of time, but then turn average. Gervinho, Salah, Krasic etc...
