Marcus Rashford (out)

Apart from the Turkey rumours, there are one or two articles hinting that Barcelona are feeling betrayed, as the player is starting to lean towards West Ham, and West Ham are dithering about signing Brian Brobbey, if Rashford might be an option.

Still more click bait: the Express a couple of days ago said Rashford already snubbed Spurs and West Ham, but 20 clubs circling, complete with breaking news flash banner leading to one of its habitual snow everywhere weather forecasts

The barrel scraping tools must be worn out by now

No way he wants to go to turkey and no way they cover 50% or more of his salary. move on

Osimhen is getting paid a decent wage, reports say 6m of his 10m wages. So yes for 6-12 months some clubs in Turkey can do that.

Its quite obvious now from those comments that Rashford has been turning down offers from clubs and this is hopefully their way of telling him to do one in a very public and humiliating manner.

There will always be a club looking to take a chance on a player like Rashford and its probably his lofty attitude of himself plus his wages that are holding the show up. Just look at the baggage around Greenwood and someone took the chance.

If he REALLY wanted to be back playing regular football he would have had a move lined up at the start of the window but PRashford is looking for some triple AAA move with money and a media campaign to match.

The club really has to take a good look at itself too, there are too many players of this ilk coming through the ranks over the years where fame and money seem to be trumping the actual football. Its about time football took precedence over money, turnover and the newest Asian noodle partner sponsor.

Looks like if he does go out on loan it will be a last minute job , not ideal for us if we are looking at bring in cover with the savings from at least part of Rashfords salary being paid by someone else.

Brutal from Amorim, but it's about time he was called out. He has the mentality of a child and obviously just wants to be a celebrity and doesn’t care about football.

The school meals work was admirable, but ultimately I fear it was just a self-serving way of trying to protect himself from criticism.

He's completely out of touch, making zero effort while earning more in a week than most people do in several years. It's a disgrace and he deserves all the criticism coming his way.

The poster boy of Manchester United's decline.

Nah. feck that. Criticise him where it's due, but not for that.

The problem with going on a loan to Turkey or some other league with a poor reputation but that can afford his wages (e.g. Saudi), is that it’s historically been a one-way street. Very rare to come back to a stronger league in Europe. No matter how well you play, any achievements are not taken seriously.

In that sense, and at least based on the noise from his camp, I think it will have to be one of the big leagues in Europe. But unfortunately most clubs in these leagues can’t come close to affording him.

I know it's difficult to hear - I didn't like saying it, but I think he's perhaps a bit more calculating than people have realised. We can't know for sure though. At least it did some good, whatever the motive.

He's effectively stealing millions from the club at this point, tantamount to theft... doesn't show good character.

Why do you think guys like Fabrizio Romano make a living off of feeding messages of agents and clubs to the public? Certain narratives drive up interest in players and strengthen or weaken negotiating positions. Guys like Romano get paid because they make players, clubs and agents money by doing so. Transfer values are not objectively calculated. If a coach says he'd rather play his 63 year old coaching colleague than Rashford you can bet this will be used in negotiations to reduce the price, regardless of the facts the scouts have already obtained. And it might even put off some higher ups who have to approve the budget in other clubs. If you have ever worked with a bad/narcissistic CEOs in a company (and there are plenty) you'll know that the experts in an organization might have and provide all the information in the world to him/her, but if such a CEO reads a certain headline, they might chose to ignore their advisors.
Whatever narrative is painted we aint getting a fee for a player who is on £350k and averages 8 league goals per season in ten years. That ship has sailed, the way we are going to manage his and Antony's exit is by perrenially loaning them out until their deals are up.

What's happening is now is that pressure is being applied on him to consider taking a pay cut to join whoever and rehabilitate his reputation there. If he does well then maybe we can get a fee, if not we will loan him out until we are in a position to work something out regarding his deal, maybe when PSR is finally replaced by another system.

Nah. It’s just bollocks. As is the rest of the post above. You’re letting your emotions cloud your judgement.

There's more nuance to football contracts certainly, but at what other job could you turn up, do very little, and get paid in full without some sort of disciplinary measures being taken.

He's taking millions from the club and refuses to work for it. What would you call it?

Fair enough if that's your opinion.

We need to stop with this line. United is not a charity or a government. It’s a for-profit business that has revenues in the hundreds of millions, has shares, has a corporate structure, lawyers, accountants, etc.

It is United’s fault and United’s fault alone that they gave him a huge long term contract. He’s stealing nothing.

Now United are trying to remedy the situation by pushing him out and I agree with that. We need to fix our mistakes, and hopefully for us and for Rashford he cooperates, but if he doesn’t, we’d be paying for our mistake. A more generous way to look at it is that every transfer or contract carries with it a risk for the player, and a risk for the club. You won’t get all of them right and we got this one very wrong.

Absolutely agree, the club are not blameless either. The Glazers have been bleeding us dry for 2 decades! No sign of that stopping either.

I'm afraid I just have no sympathy for these hugely entitled millionaire football owners and players. They make a mockery of the fans.

It's not a coincidence that it was Rashford and Casemiro on holiday in US during the short break.
They were written off by Amorim after that, publicly criticizing them in his first interview.

It’s ashame really that it’s come to this when we have players like Hojlund starting. Funny that Amorim said he’d rather pick his 63 year old coach

Given he has been available for a while, actively engaged in conversations with other clubs, and United have repeatedly put out messages in the media to the effect that they're okay with him leaving, in addition to him not actually playing for weeks, how much more can Amorim's comments undermine any value?

Rashford is on crazy wages, in poor form, and all the messaging is that the club would be happy for him to move. One comment from Amorim isn't going to make any difference.

When "do very little" means show up when and where you're supposed to, do the tasks given to you, but not to the absolute best of your ability and probably take opportunities to relax and slack off a bit, that is something you can do in almost all jobs while receiving full pay.

But not for long, especially as the highest paid employee - you'd be out the door pretty quickly. Rashford is perfectly entitled to carry on like this until June 2028 and there's not a thing we can do about it.

Great.

He will stay, will probably be reintegrated to the team after apologizing to everyone inside and will be sold/loaned this summer.

Don't think a loan with his wages can be solved in 4 days.

and then when we have a squad stacked with championship level players on low wages..what do you think will happen?

Yes, for long. For whole careers, in fact. It's extremely normal.

The window is open till February 3rd, end of day. There is still a full week. I don’t think he’ll stay. Short term loan for the next few months, and we figure out a permanent transfer in the summer.

Ok even if that's true, who cares? He helped a lot of families and kids out that were going through hard times.

Well despite all that the value will still be higher than zero currently, so a further decrease is possible. Mainly the percentage of salary on a loan, probably. But Amorim obviously has other things on his mind than a couple of millions saved in Rashfords wages. Seeing as he is delivering a media headline every week we can safely asume this is deliberate and strategic. He has taken a page out of the Mourinho playbook, his supposed idol. Let's see if he succeeds with it.

A hypothetical we probably at least need to entertain now... If there is absolutely no market for him, and he refuses to go to Saudi, what exactly do you do with a player happy to sit on this contract for 3 years?

Drug him, leave him in a hotel room with a dead hooker, take some photos, leak the news, and then fire him for bringing the club into disrepute.

Tottenham need an attacker with Solanke being out. Johnson out, too, and apparently Richarlison also felt something. I read somewhere Postecoglu - who stunningly has not been fired yet - has been promised signings. Would be funny if he scored against Liverpool in the LC semis.

I’ve seen the other players play, and I can’t bring myself to believe Rashford is this far behind them in training or whatever

That said, a parting of ways is the best thing here for everyone. These talking points every week are :boring:

What does “crossing a line” even mean in this situation?

Amorim will not and should not be sacked. Rashford has abused the privilege of being a highly paid Manchester United player. His wages are far in excess of the value of his contributions to the club.

Whether Rashford is personally hurt by the comments is irrelevant.

It's the telegraph. It means nothing.

I've been a Rashford supporter for the longest time, but this latest statement by Amorim really has me worried Marcus has a completely wrong picture of his own standing in the game. He honestly seems to think he could play the role he was intended for here at a club like Barca, when he only ever achieved his status here because he is a local.

Having his brothers advise him can't be any help either. Wish someone like Wayne or some other ex pro he must have admired had a word with him.
