Marcus Rashford (out)

I think the big problem with what Amorim said is that he's thinking about this like someone who cares about giving a shit about something. "Oh, he's saying I'm shit. I'll prove him wrong" etc.

In reality I think Rashford doesn't care. He'll take the money and just talk, talk, talk about how great he is. Because words are easy and low effort. We've all met blaggers like him.

The "willing to play for the team" / "willing to work with Amorim" brief was the final straw for me. That's a curated phrase, he and his team thought about those words. He's not in a position to be "willing" to do anything. He's a United player, being paid £350k a fecking week, and the manager is the boss. He should either see it as his duty or he can feck off with his billy big bollocks bullshit.

I just wish he would piss off.
It is obvious he is going to get booed if he plays again and he won't run and then he will be subbed.

I think Amorim has seen that Rashford is going nowhere and made those comments as a last straw. I mean Rashford has to take a hard look at himself in the mirror. You haven't played in 6 weeks with the manager openly questioning your application and not a single club in the world willing to take you on. Where do you go from here? Buckle up or your career is done.

Plenty of people saw his attitude issues years ago. I wanted him gone when he moped around the pitch under Rangnick. I mentioned it plenty of times on here but that was when I realized he doesn't give a single shit about his teammates, the club or even the fans. You can still put in effort on the pitch even if you don't rate the manager That was the excuse given by people back then along with plenty still believing he had back issues and his people putting out puff pieces about how playing on the left wing and cutting in was his best role and that he wasn't being utlised properly.

I had some hope after his 30 goal season under ETH that he might have changed his attitude but the longer it went on, the more it became apparent that he performed for a new contract. Such a shame with how his career has turned out. Had plenty of talent and at one point he looked like putting it all together on his way to being a world class player only to throw it all away.

If anything, Rashford is a textbook case of our flaw in treating academy players with sentimentality. All players should be treated the same, no exception.

It’s a couple pages back in this thread. It’s nothing sinister but shows Brandon spending an absolute fortune on some bling jewellery. He’s young and immature and enjoying his money - I get that - but it’s not a great look. There’s definitely something wrong in the professionalism and work ethic of some of our academy players in recent years.
There was also this incident. We really gave these guys a lot of leeway just because they came from our academy. Kinda indicative of why the club has been rotten for so long. No standards were being maintained.

100% agree. I don't mind us selling Garnacho as I don't see him as big a talent as others do but if he ends up staying I hope we do a better job of making sure we keep him humble and not let him believe and indulge him like he's the second coming of Ronaldo.

That's _____ charitable of him

Sounds about as enthusiastic to get on with things as those train drivers faced by walking through an inch of snow to get to work

I am sure Ruben said this with a view to speeding up Rashford's departure and to shut up the English media once and for all. I doubt it would have affected Rashford's prospects of moving as other teams are not blind to the lack of effort when he plays.

Do people genuinely think that other clubs are idiots? That they won't have their own scouts analyzing Rashford's performances over the past few years if they are considering getting him in? That, if they have any questions or concerns, they will talk to someone at the club and someone on Rashford's side as well?

A club isn't going to make a decision to sign someone or not based on what is said in a press conference when they have access to much more information than we would.

We need to shift to performance based, and appearance based contracts. :annoyed:

I demand that Amorim calls for a press conference today where he will publicly admit he was wrong, say the world hasn't seen a greater trainer since Michael Jordan and finish off with a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize for Rashford. We need those 100m bids flowing in and it all depends on Amorim's public statements.

Finally we have a manager with balls that has seen through this charlatan.
Helps that he's being backed by the executives as well.

I still cringe every time I remember that club legend Ole had to apologize for telling this guy to focus on his job.

It's sad that a local player and an academy product who is not only was appreciated with a huge contract but also considered a poster boy and probably a role model, it's sad to see a player like this not caring at all.

Can't to see the back of him

Let’s also take a minute to remember that Rashford was never the expected star from the youth academy.

He basically got lucky on his debut with other youth players ahead of him getting injured. And he took his chance

But, as expected. Having never been noteworthy for the youth teams, he’s carried that over into senior football and most are just waking up to the fact that he has actually achieved the (low) levels that were expected of him

Unbelievably, somewhere along the line he’s managed to convince the club/world he’s top tier

Because the team has been rubbish so one of your most talented players not playing for non-injury related reasons will constantly be asked. It's not rocket science.
“Ruben the team has been rubbish for a while. Why don’t you use the most rubbish player of them all, that also fails to do the basics like tracking back?”

Yeah, makes perfect sense.

Well that kind of profiles end up having capitancy duties. Not Markus who shies from and responsibility.

No wonder him and Sancho messing up euro 2021, them costing Utd dearly and their careers looking to be going downhill in such a short time.

And this can’t be done in private conversations? “Marcus - you won’t play again. Get out of the club or rot in the reserves”. Seems simple enough to me.

Instead, we have to make it sound like if he was the last footballer on earth we still wouldn’t pick him. Somehow, we think that’s going to encourage Barca to sign him up?
We don't care where he goes, the thing is we want him to make the sacrifice to enjoy his new challenge. The fact that Amorim going to these extremes shows that his demands are what's holding any move up and the manager is just showing him that there is no way back for him.

It’s significantly increasing the chance he won’t leave with the type of comments Amorim is making. This isn’t difficult to understand.

Find another circumstance where a club has been desperately trying to sell a player whilst continually telling everyone what an awful purchase he would be. It’s utterly stupid and should not be being defended by the fans just because we like someone calling out Rashford.

Like countless others have told you, if journalists know whats happening then scouts, analysts and executives actually getting paid to make these calls and know this stuff absolutely do and also know more. There is no one jeopardising any move other than a greed player who wants to have his cake and eat it too.

Amorim has closed the door on him and the only way he gets it open is by working harder than he has ever done before. That we see Hoijlund, Zirkzee et al struggling but still playing, they don't even press but the coach gives them chances to improve says a lot about what's not been said. Amorim is very patient and empathetic so for him to go to these extremes and publicly too says a lot.

Fully paid 6 weeks holiday. Marcus is enjoying his cars, social events, chilling with his entourage, he couldn't care less I'd guess. He has years left on his contract.

Playing football, who cares about that when one is a celebrity.

You want our manager to drop standards and be happy with players not training hard?
Give me strength.

Just because someone doesn't like that the manager talks so openly about stuff like this means I have any support for Rashford. I don't at all.

But no, in my opinion, stuff like this doesn't help. But grow up, it's hardly me saying the manager should drop standards or accept players not working hard. Just don't be telling the media every single fecking thing that's happening behind the scenes.

The only question he faces from the media is about Rashford... all he has said is for me, I need players to train hard, he has hardly said what Rashford does on /off the pitch.

Help in what way? its setting a standard for a player who has been told months ago these are the standards and they need to be met.

You really don't think this has been tried. From what the journos from the Athletic have said, this has been tried by multiple managers behind the scenes. Ole once had to backtrack in a press conference because he said too much. All these years on and I think the climate in the club has finally changed and everyone has finally come to the same conclusion.

If this has been the case over multiple years, there is no possibility this isn't well known by other teams scouts and managers alike. Rashfords brother has been on a european tour touting his player over the past two months and basically got diddly squat of actual real interest. Journos have happily briefed that these meetings have taken place, but no real bidders have actually come forward.

No, we want him to understand that the club is trying to get rid of this player and not make that process harder.
I don’t think clubs are as stupid as some fans who could not see this without Amorim stating the obvious after weeks being left out of the squad when he is fit and one of our highest paid players in the squad.

He's not been in a squad for 6 weeks, barring when a number of injuries has called for him to be present on the bench. He doesn't want Casemiro either, but he is on the bench all the time because he is at least being professional.

So that tells me that Rashford doesn't really give a toss about being more professional or doing anything differently, in trying to get back in the team, and that must absolutely drive the manager crazy. I said I have zero sympathy for Rashford.

But we are actively trying to move him on. Saying any of this publicly really doesn't enthuse the idea a team will take a chance on him, especially with all the well known stuff about the player already. So saying what Ruben said, doesn't make sense from that perspective. It's also not going to do anything for the player because he already couldn't really care about doing what he has to do to get back in the squad, so again it makes no sense from that perspective. Finally, we've actually won a game and barely an hour afterwards there is the next headline again about a player that doesn't want to be here, the manager doesn't want, or the fans, but we can't shift.

I get it must drive Ruben crazy being asked about him, but enough even talking about him. Either tell the press you are not accepting anymore questions about Rashford, or have the very boring and standard answer of No Comment if asked. There is enough negativity and ongoing crap around the club for me without adding to it unnecessarily.

Why do you think guys like Fabrizio Romano make a living off of feeding messages of agents and clubs to the public? Certain narratives drive up interest in players and strengthen or weaken negotiating positions. Guys like Romano get paid because they make players, clubs and agents money by doing so. Transfer values are not objectively calculated. If a coach says he'd rather play his 63 year old coaching colleague than Rashford you can bet this will be used in negotiations to reduce the price, regardless of the facts the scouts have already obtained. And it might even put off some higher ups who have to approve the budget in other clubs. If you have ever worked with a bad/narcissistic CEOs in a company (and there are plenty) you'll know that the experts in an organization might have and provide all the information in the world to him/her, but if such a CEO reads a certain headline, they might chose to ignore their advisors.

Do people think up until Amorims comments yesterday other clubs thought things were fine here with Rashford and the club?

If you're trying to offload your highest paid player midway through a season I think it's safe to say something has gone wrong and the club want the player out ASAP. I don't think Amorims comments yesterday will play that big a deal in whether or not Rashford goes.

Barcelona will have already known we're desperate to get rid.

I thought yesterday was probably Amorim just being annoyed at the PR pieces last week hailing Rashford for training well, which he evidently wasn't.

As are the permanent moaners who still dont realize the state the club is in and what it needs to improve things once and for all
I don’t permanently moan. I wanted ETH out after the cup final. I wanted Ruben to come in. I want him to get his players. But bloody hell, seems like if one dares suggest something the coach said is disagreeable they deserve to be lambasted to have more of ETH and Rashford. Both of whom I wanted gone. No, for me, this is warranted just to improve things. Plenty of other ways for it to be done.

If you read inbetween the lines, its not Rashford quality he doesn't like, its his off the field attitude. He mentioned we missed pace and power that Rashford brings but he needs to show it in training.

Casemiro, is just ageing and cannot get round the pitch to play in the PL anymore.

He has been saying the same thing for the question, its in training, he judges the players, he hasnt said anything different. A manager can't just go into a presser and say no comment as he will be pressed into making a comment.

He hasn't said anything that we dont know, or any other club doesn't know. There is barely any team enthusiased about Rashford regardless of what the manager says.

Do you think if he came out and said the opposite, Rashford is amazing etc... there will be a queue of teams waiting to sign him? No, it doesnt work like that.

That’s exactly the point I’m making though. Stop talking about him, full stop. No need to lie and say he’s training well or anything of the sort. I said just say to the press we are not entertaining questions about him any more, there’s 3/4 every press conference and there’s no update. So if you ask, the manager will say no comment and that’s it.

I get it’s boring. And clearly a lot don’t agree with me. But again, there’s enough negativity around the club and there doesn’t need to be more where it can be helped.
