Marcus Rashford (out)

Valencia was a beast.
We could have asked Madrid for Robben to sweeten things up.
We also got Owen as a striker option in the same summer that Benzema and Huntelaar were moving.
We didn't get a midfielder in that same summer although Wesley Sneijder and Kaka were both moving.

That 2009 summer was a cursed and embarrassing one for us.

I don't think Fergie was much interested in Robben since that u-turn where he went to Chelsea. Went on to be a mint player for Bayern, however.

We were always keen on signing Benzema, but he wanted to join Real Madrid, not much we could do about that. Huntelaar wasn't very good, so i'm glad we avoided him.

Still, we were very competitive. Fletcher really evolved and looked like he was going to be a very solid midfielder for us. I'd say we fecked up worse in the years to come

The one that really got away was Luka Modric. I remember SAF wanted to sign him and if we had, we would have got a proper replacement for Scholes. In my books, that kind of midfielder is the single biggest gap that post SAF teams have faced.

Not only post SAF. I remember the Caf in his last years, complaints every single transfer window about the lack of a 'marquee midfield signing'

I’m going to be a bit annoyed at Rashford and his camp if he’s giving interviews talking about new challenges and didn’t even have something concrete lined up for him to take on this window.

Shocking from his management team and I hope it’s a humbling experience for him that he’s just not all that good enough for any side in Europe to really want to go out and get him even on loan.

Fans should not forget how Rashford has behaved these last few years. Regardless of how he’s acted in the community, as a player he’s been disrespectful and arrogant. He cares little for the club judging on his efforts in training and on the pitch. He is one of the biggest reasons the club is in its current malaise and in a position to help us out after some poor decision making….but he won’t. Tarnished reputation and he won’t care.

I said the same at the time, now I'm wondering if it was a power play and he thought the club would make Amorim play him. Either way he's acted like a dickhead and he should be made to suffer to win his place back.

If he comes back into the team and jogs about the reaction from the crowd will be severe.

And even more-so was not willing to make any sacrifice some of his wages to do so..... how many takers would there have been either loan or buy if he had been willing to cut his wages, if he was serious about getting back into the England team or taking up a fresh challenge, then he needed to compromise, either he was just paying lip service, or is deluded enough to think he deserves that level of wage at any other club, based on what? nothing from the last 2 years!

There’s no suggestion that Rashford had any intention of leaving until the club reported that he was for sale, so it’s really not surprising that he had nothing specific lined up. Plenty of things to criticise him for but that’s not one of them.

He had to drum up interest somehow and showing you're serious about leaving is usually a good way to do it. Just a shame that the shitter you are the more available you have to be before anyone bothers.

I can see him doing an Odemwingie at the deadline.

No suggestion? He does an interview before the window opens about new challenges and wanting to leave on good terms.

Subtle.

You might want to check out his pre planned interview a few weeks back

Fans would riot if we put him for sale after that purple patchs half season. Took us 2 long years of Rashford stinking up the place to make him sellable in the fans eye. A poster boy, great PR, feeds the kids, 20 goal season.

We sold Beckham but it was under Sir Alex who had placate himself as the Godfather. No manager suggesting selling Rashford at that time would be entertained.

Hindsight is 20/20.

Have a look at Garnacho thread.

Tbh, there was a major portion of fans who wanted to cash in on Rashford after the 30 goal season. Because we knew he would turn hot and cold (though it’s only been cold since) and does not deserve a big contract. The situation we’re in with Rashford is one that many fans could see coming two years back. Woodward may have exited but Murtough and Arnold followed in the same idiotic footsteps.

On Valencia, I remember @MadDogg in the Nani thread saying he wishes we had converted Valencia into a full back sooner as a right hand side of him and Nani would've been a nightmare for opposition teams, and I have to agree. Nani was always better on the right, and having Evra and Valencia as our full backs overlapping Nani/Giggs/Park would've been too much to handle for most.

Anyway, Rashford, though, eh...

100% this. On top of that, his actual overall performances in the two seasons he got goals, were underwhelming. His link up play and ability to keep the ball in tight areas have never been good enough. Good threat on the counter but never a player that could help sustain attacks. If he didn't get on the scoresheet he contributed little else. Clear as day for me he would never be a top player.

Yeah seriously. It wasn’t even like some off-hand remark when someone threw him a curve ball he wasn’t expecting. He told it to one of the most reputable football journalists in the land who then posted it to social media. Usually when someone’s that transparent over their job situation, they’ve secured another gig and therefore they can afford to say it.

If he didn’t have another gig lined up after that and is still here come February, then he and his management team are stupid. They either didn’t have any plan beyond that or the interest they got was not to their unrealistic expectations and they thought Europe’s elite would be tripping over themselves to sign him.

Having him completely removed from the match day squad has probably done more harm than good in regards to selling him.

What club in their right mind would consider signing him when he can’t even make the squad during a period where our attacking options are the worst they’ve ever been?

Wow, imagine Valencia and Nani on the same flank, that'd be awesome. Nani was unpredictable for defenders as he could go both ways, imagine him having Valencia bomb on the overlap, defenders wouldn't know how to defend the pair. Remember when standards were at a level that even players like Nani and Valencia had more expected of them, now we have players offering nothing but excuses being made for them. I really hope we can get back to having a deep squad of true quality and being able to hold players accountable to a high level of performance, I'm sure the players themselves would love that (at least those that are capable). Keane, Neville, etc. say it all the time - they had to perform at top level, it was their duty - and if they didn't they knew they would be rightly replaced. I know that rant was not directly about Rashford, but I guess he is indirectly involved in the culture described.
