Not sure what this means exactly for us... Jim Lawlor and Marcel Bout gone

Interesting. Haven't heard much good come from our scouts recently.

Are these the same people that scouted 100000 full backs and arrived at AWB? If so, then good.

I hope this has more to do with Rangnick's restructuring rather than brain drain.

My fear is we wind up with Darren Fletcher as the new manager.

Hardly a loss given that we seem to do the majority of our scouting on FIFA 22.

Finally some action for the 130m disaster defence paring.

Not sure if this is a good thing or not but ever since Ralf came in and started asking questions people have started leaving. You have to wonder how cushy those roles where and just how accountable they've been before now.

Either way, you can't with a serious face recommend Maguire, Pogba, Lukaku, fecking everyone, and still keep your job. I reckon I could have done a decent job by recommending FM players.

See, the doom mongers - things are changing. We have to give time and see what we can work out for.

It's about time some fecking heads rolled at this shower of a club. The entire structure needs to be torn down and replaced, hopefully this is the start of that.

I'm surprised it's taken this long if they have been as responsible for our shambolic recruitment as their job titles suggest.

Doesn't sound good ahead of crucial window to be making changes so late though.

Brilliant news. We keep talking about a change, hopefully this is a step in the right direction

@Adnan did you rate Bout? You had a good insight into how our scouts were.

Fair to say we didnt reap rewards of it though.

I really hope this is the restructuring based on Ralf's advice and not talent jumping ship because we're shit. I guess the narrative will all but depend on how well we recruit moving forward.

On the surface level you might say that if they were in charge of our scouting then it's good that they're going.

However, that assumes our scouting was actually listened to at all times. When we know they were often at odds with our managers and their personal scouts. A classic case being Maguire, who our scouts didn't think should be signed when Mourinho wanted him but then we caved and got him anyway a year later.

So it's not quite as black and white as our scouts being good scouts, it's also about the power dynamic between them and the rest of the recruitment process.

Still, hopefully this is a sign of positive change. If we're going to make changes now is the time to do it I guess.

Great news. Time to stop employing people for not doing their job.

I'm just hoping this means we're putting in a structure for Ten Hag to concede. As you say it's a mix of scouting and the manager, if we get in replacements that align with Ten Hag's thoughts more than the current crop, that's good news to me. Remains to be seen if that's the case though.

Change is clearly needed considering the way our recruitment has gone. But none of us will ever know for sure if the scouts are to blame or the people above them. I remember reading an article years ago that our scouts thought Darmian was useless but LVG went ahead and signed him anyway.

@Hansi Fick

This is why we are applauding Rangnick.
What makes you think Rangnick had anything to do with this?

It was Murtough.

The moves will be seen as a moment of change in United’s scouting structure and will attempt to streamline an operation which critics have said has become too top heavy.

John Murtough has full control of the football operations and has driven some of the changes as he seeks to help turn Manchester United around.

Key to those changes will be the appointment of Erik Ten Hag, who has reached an agreement in principle to become their next permanent manager, as The Athletic revealed earlier this month.

But hey, Murtough's shite according to the CAF anyway......

No big surprise given how scathing Ralf has been about our player recruitment, and how this has (rightly) become the media narrative.

Lawlor seemingly only worked as a scout in South Africa (not even sure what this means, for who?) for one year before joining United and became chief scout in 2014/15. Madness.

Marcel Bout joined the set up around the same time under LVG - he's more experienced in the game but largely in a coaching capacity rather than scouting:

How on earth do a team like United end up with this kind of set-up? I hope one day someone writes a proper book on how badly run our club has been since Fergie left.

Worth buying the UWS mag because this was hinted in there like 2 or 3 months ago.

Hopefully Murtough and Fletcher are connected and smart enough to hire replacements who will sort the scouting out. The scouting has been a joke for nearly 10 years.

Murtough is the one who hired Ralf for his advise on things like this

It's pretty obvious that Murtough is behind it. There's a reason why he was so desperate to bring Rangnick in. Some fans don't want to hear it though.

Pretty sure there's a book about all this, it's called "How not to run a nightclub football club"
