Discussion Your Lineup Prediction

  • Will be interesting to see if he makes changes. Team is clearly knackered and you don't want to risk injuries.

    -------Onana---------
    Maz ---Maguire--Yoro
    Antony-- Casemiro/Eriksen -- Ugarte -- Malacia
    Amad--Zirkzee--Bruno

I’m always surprised by how many people pick Antony to start, Amorim doesn’t seem to have much interest in playing him.
He probably will now I’ve posted that.

Even though last two games have been better it’s still hard to predict this will be the comfortable win it should be. I think might be a nervy 2-1 win, we desperately need the three points.

Plus we have Brighton 3 days later, so i'm expecting some rotation.

This game is likely to be a stark contrast to the last two, demanding more attacking intent and creativity. With that in mind, I'd adopt a more forward-thinking approach.

    I’d go with:

    Zirkzee
    Garnacho - Eriksen
    Malacia - Bruno - Ugarte - Amad
    Martinez - Yoro - Mazraoui
    Onana

Presumably injury doubts over Martinez and Harry? I’m going to assume Harry has recovered by Thursday but Martinez is out:

    Onana

    Yoro
    Maguire
    DL

    Amad
    Mainoo
    Ugarte
    Maz

    Garnacho
    Bruno

    Zirkzee

I suspect Amorim might have Malacia in for Garnacho with Amad at 10 but I think we need the extra attacker at home to Southampton.

Very proud of the team the last 2 matches, however I find this match most interesting.

Will we be able to press, dominate and create against a weaker side, that will likely be more compact.

Only Bruno of our MFs and strikers played more than 90 min, and after a full week of rest.

Think Eriksen, Antony and Malacia all come in...no Dalot, and at the time of this writing, there are serious concerns for a possible multi-match ban for Ugarte.

    Onana
    Yoro-Maguire-De Ligt
    Antony-Eriksen-Mainoo-Malacia
As long as the players show the same fight and energy that they did against Liverpool & Arsenal, we will win. There shouldn't be any excuses anyway, as this is our easiest fixture on paper for the remainder of the season I'd argue. It's just a must-win game, there's not much else to say in that regard. It's down to the players to prove to us that they're capable.

I wouldn't mind a few changes, but I do also want to see this continuity. I'd probably expect Amorim to just bring Amad in for Dalot and play Mazraoui from the left. But I've been dying to see Antony from the LWB position, although if reports are true there's interest in him from a couple of clubs which may keep him relegated to the bench. Not that I think Antony is ever going to be any good, but I'm very much of the opinion that if he has a place in this squad it is LWB. He will at least put the yards in and who knows, maybe he could beat a man down the outside and cross a ball once in a while.

    Onana
    De Ligt Maguire Martinez
    Amad Mainoo Ugarte Mazraoui
    Bruno Garnacho

I think we're better off starting with close to the same XI as much as we can now and hopefully start to put a few games to bed by early in the second half. That's when we can get the likes of Yoro, Malacia, Casemiro, Eriksen, Collyer, Antony, and Zirkzee some minutes. At the moment, I think everyone in the first XI is doing enough to keep their place and we probably lose a bit too much by replacing them. Hopefully this was the plan all along from Amorim and the players have been rotated heavily through December so now these main 14-15 (along with Mount & potentially Shaw upon return) or so players will continue to be the ones used (barring any January moves).

First home game of 2025 and I'll be there, hopefully this year is better. Definitely feel more optimistic at the moment that we can perform significantly better in the second half of the season. Low expectations for a Manchester United squad, especially in my lifetime, but we can surely climb into the top half and have a big say in winning the Europa League.

Not going with this myself, some of those guys played 120 minutes just 4 days ago, and we have another game in 3 days. 2 games a week for the next 2 or 3 weeks. Need some rotation, and what would be a better side to rotate against than Southampton?

Not starting both Amad and Garnacho.

Malacia, Antony and for me Eriksen, should at least start this one...

Predicting the team for this game is a lottery, but after playing 120 minutes on Sunday, half of it a man down, and with Brighton to come on the following Sunday, there will almost certainly be heavy rotation.

We're lucky that it's Southampton, one of the worst teams in PL history. If a rotated team can't beat this lot, it's not on Amorim, it would just show that the squad isn't strong enough.

The ideal scenario is we're 3-0 up with 30 minutes to go and can take off the likes of Bruno, Ugarte, Mainoo etc. Really don't want this to be another home struggle!

    Yoro
    Maguire
    Martinez

    Diallo
    Casemiro
    Fernandes
    Antony

    Eriksen
    Zirkzee

    Hojlund

Or just go strong and sub early if we lead well

Soton to turn into prime Barcelona for this 1 game then go back to Yeovil Town F.C. levels of shite after.

Last decade at home in the league against Southampton hasn't been great. Played 11 W4 D5 L2.

Before that it was played 14 Won 13 and drew 1 and I was at that one draw which is remembered for "The Blind Venetian" Taibi.

It's back to a game every 3/4 days now, so I wouldn't be surprised if performances drop off a bit due to fatigue, rotation and lack of training.

This is a game for Amad at wing back I think. Southampton will likely defend deep so an extra attacker needed.

I know Bruno is always fit and ready but I'd rather have him fresh for Brighton and assuming we're going to dominate the play this might be a good opportunity to rest him and play Eriksen. If it goes to plan could pair Ugarte/Eriksen for 45 and Case/Mainoo for 45 to get some minutes into both old boys and some rest into the 1st choicers

    Onana

    Mala
    DeLigt
    Yoro
    Licha
    Maz

    Ugarte
    Eriksen
    Amad
    Garna

    Zirkzee

We'll definitely see some rotation here. Dalot, Megs and Kobbie will be out. Think we'll line up something like this.

    Onana
Yoro - De Ligt - Licha
    Maz - Ugarte - Bruno - Malacia
    Amad - Eriksen
    Hojlund
Can easily see Zirkzee and Garna start too. Really hope we get some early goals and then rest our main guys. Hopefully see the likes of Colleyer and Kukonki get some minutes too.

I'd be interested to see Garnacho and Amad supporting Zirkzee. His hold up play could be useful with those 2 running off him

Would really like to see Zirkzee start and I wouldn't mind us playing with wingers at wing back against Southampton, if we are ever going to, now is the game, I'd go with:

    Onana
    Yoro De Ligt Martinez
    Amad Ugarte Bruno Garnacho
    Eriksen Zirkzee
    Hojlund

Them recent away matches against big teams have been great but this is completely different. We were getting them type of results in other tenures, particularly Solskjaer's.

What no manager has done since SAF is consistently beat these type of teams comfortably. The 5 at the back suits the last few games. But here we need wing backs really pushing on and someone needs to start scoring consistently. Top scorer on 4 league goals is not good.

    Malacia and Yoro will start.

Can see Garnacho and Zirkzee starting too. Wouldn’t mind one of Eriksen (at 10) or Casemiro starting either.

Really looking forward to this one. I hope the players are leggy after the extended play time at Arsenal

This is the sort of game we are struggling with so far. Opposition we should beat and will probably have most of the ball but need to break down and avoid getting hit on the counter. It exposes our lack of pace at the back and lack of attacking talent.

    Some rotation here for sure.

    Onana
    Yoro De Ligt Maguire
    Maz Ugarte Mainoo Malacia
    Amad Bruno
    Zirkzee

I'm worried about rotating our 2 CMs. The drop off in quality if either of them is out is huge.

Think Erikson will come in for this. We have him until the end of the season so might as well use him.

If Casemiro is not used then that’s a positive in terms of him leaving.

Licha will be rested. Yoro to start. Think that he may rest Ugarte and Mainoo for Brighton.

Different type of game this one - we are the team on the front foot trying to break down this time. Let’s see if we have actually learnt anything offensively recently

I'm usually of the train of thought to rotate in these type of fixtures but think we need to keep the positive momentum going. We're too fragile to suffer a setback so go strong and sub off if we can.

Necessity might be to bring in Yoro and Malacia.
