Wednesday 22nd 19:00 GMT at Leigh Sports Village. Live on MUTV. The word is Borthwick-Jackson is in the squad.
Completely outclassed tonight. Always wary of reading too much into reserve football because the make-up of the squad is pretty much out of the hands of the manager. That said, is there a point at which we start to wonder if Nicky Butt is just a crap (interim) manager? Any rumours about who we might be getting in as Joyce's replacement?

I think it's obvious from the two UEFA Youth League run that Butt is quite average when in comes to being a manager. No shame on that. Just like what happened with the U18s, it takes time to get a right person. It's better that way than to rush a decision then regret it later.

A young Utd squad, because most of the older players already left. You want to make it younger. The average age of starters was : 19 yrs, 5 months. The bench: 18 yrs, 11 months. O’Connor: the youngest at only 16 yrs, 7 months. Josh Harrop (21 yrs, 2 months) was the eldest.I would still say that the squad is poor, and 98% of the older players should be released.
Yes, it's not really that young of a squad. I'm sure if you look around the league it will be similar. We don't need so many 20 year olds with no first team experience and no chance of making it here. 1 or 2 is alright to balance out the squad and another couple older late developers or those held back by injury is alright too but we dont need a squad full of them. They won't make it here. There is no point to a squad full of Mctominay, Redmond, Willock, thankfully El fitouri has been moved on. Even Harrop, for his own good there is really no need for him to be here.A young Utd squad, because most of the older players already left. You want to make it younger. Match report (link). Utd team: Henderson; Warren (O’Connor 69), Tuanzebe, Borthwick-Jackson, Mitchell; Poole (Willock 79), Whelan (Redmond 69); Harrop, McTominay, Gribbin; Bohui. Subs not used: Johnstone, Scott, Buffonge, Kehinde.
You never mentioned Kieran O'Hara. I guess you'd keep all those out on loan + Wilson, Joel Pereira + Demi.Yes, it's not really that young of a squad. Even getting rid of those and Axel going on loan we stil like have Poole, Roshaun, and Demi as more experienced players. Gribbin has stepped up and Kehinde could use more game time too. Maybe even Scott and Olusunde if they can show something. We've got 13 second year scholars looking to step up and about 10 of the most are better talents than the older u23s. Then not to mention the younger ones like O'Connor or Gomes who are taking the piss in the u18s and should be pushed on. We need to move our players through quicker and stop letting them stall in development.
