UNITED READY TO PLUNDER AMERICAS AGAIN
Argentina attacker targeted

MANCHESTER UNITED are set to plunder the Americas again by offering £5million for Estudiantes forward Mauro Boselli.

Earlier this month, the Red Devils signed Mexican striker Javier Hernandez from Chivas de Guadalajara.

United's over-reliance on Wayne Rooney has encouraged an emphasis on recruiting firepower for next season.

Dimitar Berbatov is on borrowed time and Danny Welbeck, Federico Macheda and Mame Biram Diouf are still not ready to feature regularly for the side.

Argentina international Boselli is in cracking form for high-fliers Estudiantes this season and has a strike rate of three goals every four games.

He has been earmarked by other Premier League clubs for his pace and uncanny eye for goal and has former United midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron in his current side to advise him about life in England.

Roma, Blackburn and Birmingham are also keen on Boselli and willing to trump United's bid but, if Estudiantes decide to sell their man, there will only be one winner.

Obligatory Youtube compilation.

Seems OK.
In my opinion, unless a special talent becomes available at a decent price we won't be signing any more senior strikers.
Next season it will be Rooney, Berbatov, Macheda, Owen, Diouf and Hernandez fighting for the 4 main striking positions. SAF will trust in the younger forwards development.

And that's not even mentioning Welbeck or Joshua King who in my view is the most talented of the strikers coming through at United.

Welbeck is very likely to go back on loan to Preston (thats why I didn't mention him) and King I think may force his way into the reckoning if he bangs them in for the reserves next season, which he is more than capable of.

We are so stacked for promising young strikers at the moment that it would be difficult for SAF to buy another 20-25ish striker and still convince the likes of Welbeck, King, Keane and Cofie that they will be given their chance in the near future.

Welbeck maybe, but the rest are still young enough - are far enough away from a first team berth - that another signing won't make a difference. Cofie and Keane are 17, King is just 18.

Maybe, but they have already seen the 22 year old Diouf come in and "jump the queue" and now the 21 year old Hernandez, with the 24 year old Rooney and 18 year old Macheda. If they see another striker arrive certainly I would worry about getting my chance at the club if I was in that position. I'm sure that they would be aiming to be in the first team squad rotation before the age of 21-22 and with the level of young competition it may make one or two of them think about leaving.

The rumour was that Matt James had to be convinced by SAF that he would get a chance before he signed professional terms, he was said to be concerned by the number of players that we had in central midfield so I was just raising it as a possible concern.

The young players should trust Fergie, he will buy to compete but the youngsters will get their shot if they are good enough, just got to keep working hard.

Manchester United looking to sign Argentinian striker Mauro Boselli - report

Manchester United looking to sign Argentinian striker Mauro Boselli - report - Goal.com

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will make a bid to sign Argentinian striker Mauro Boselli this summer, according to the News of the World.

The 24-year-old is currently playing for Estudiantes in Argentina and has bagged 24 goals in 34 games this season.

Boselli is rumoured to have attracted attention from a host of other Premier League sides as well as Italian title challengers Roma.

The report claims that Boselli, who has one international cap for his country, would cost the champions just £5 million.

United's stiking options have come under scrutiny recently with reports suggesting under-fire forward Dimitar Berbatov could be set for a move to Italy.

Should Boselli make the move to Old Trafford he would become the club's second signing from the Americas in quick succession after the Red Devils announced the capture of Javier Hernandez from Chivas in Mexico earlier this month.

So how good is this fella?

He looks pretty handy at getting on the end of cross's and planting it into the net with his head (Something Berbatov has failed to do for us) so Fergie is probably looking for the best affordable option for some striker to get onto the end of Valencia's cross's. I guess it was wishful thinking to hope for a Benzema or a Balotelli but I would prefer we went in for a cheap option like Boselli with big potential as opposed to forking out lots of money on a big risk like Huntelaar or Carlton Cole!

Cant see us going for another striker under the radar like Hernandez. I've a feeling we'll get someone like Pazzini to replace Berbatov. Nothing at all fancy, but someone who will head the ball into the back of the net if you cross the ball into him and someone already proven in europe. Ultimately thats what we need from Rooney's backup and to reduce our reliance on him.

fergie thinks we'll be tricked into thinking that he's really mario ballotelli. that can be the only reason why we are looking at players like this.

first it was 'xavier' hernandez.

very slick fergie.

I say this and then he goes and scores 2 against Roma to hand Inter the title. He's probably not going to be "value for money" anymore.

This is kind of sad. Chelsea:Pato. Chelsea:Aguero. MUFC:Huh. MUFC:Who. MUFC:Wuzzat.

Just think of how Shevchenko turned out for them.

I remember when Chelsea bought him and Ballack in, everybody were jizzing themselves and saying Chelsea would win the Treble/Quadruple/rule the whole Universe. But, it didn't happen.

I don't know who this guy is, but I'm just concerned if we bring in yet another striker, that'll be like 7 or 8 strikers on the books?

I don't want us to get rid of Owen, Macheda or Diouf. I'd like to see Diouf given more chances, and I also think Macheda should be used more in the first team squad. I could see Welbeck on loan again though.

I'm pretty sure this transfer will not go ahead, we've taken the plunge over there once so they've found another good striker in a nice vein of form and linked us too him.

There won't be another striker in I don't think.

Already signed Hernandez plus we have at least 3-4 young forwards from whom we have very high hopes.

So I dont think we will sign him.

Would rather buy an experienced Fabiano for 10-15 mil pounds.

maybe that would partly explain why the Ljajic deal was scrapped....

Tim Vickery was talking about him last week and he said he d be surprised if Boselli could cut it in the Premier League. Vickery said he is an all out goal scorer and does NOTHING else. Boselli is playing in front of the best midfield in South America with Veron pulling the strings and hence he is able to score. He has no pace, he will not work the channels - no movement. Tim said if you take him away from there and he will find it hard to score elsewhere.

Vickery knows his stuff as well to be fair.

Sounds a bit like an out and out goalscorer.. Ruud, Huntelaar & Inzhagi come to mind.. Doesn't mean he is not good enough.. Mind I have not seen the lad play.. I am merely stating why he is not necessarily going to be a flop..

Contrary to what some think, Ruud could and did work the channels well. Maybe his last moany season has stuck in peoples minds too much.
