Manchester United have made contact with Sunderland over goalkeeper Vito Mannone, according to Gazetta dello Sport.
The Italian sports daily claim that David Moyes is interested in bringing in former Arsenal keeper Mannone as back-up to David De Gea.
The story suggests that Anders Lindegaard could be leaving Old Trafford with the Dane keen for first-team football elsewhere.
And any Mannone departure would open the door for Sunderland to bring in Argentina number two Mariano Andújar.
The Catania goalkeeper is available this winter and, as revealed by MirrorSport last week , Gus Poyet is a fan of the 30-year-old - who will only move to the Stadium of Light for first-team football.
"I like the style of South American goalkeepers," Poyet admitted, "and Andújar is a player that I like and I know."

I know it's bullshit but I'm going to chuck it up here anyway. He's fecking terrible. It'd be depressing if we bought that useless sack of shit.

From the few games i've seen of Sunderland this year he hasn't looked that bad?

De Gea's down to two years in June. New contract or back to Spain?

I'm just going to go with my first reaction to the thread title as i think it still applies, we've what? *baffled*

There was some talk in the Autumn of De Gea extending his current deal but i don't think anything has been signed so far as i am aware. Offering him a new and improved deal should be a top priority for the club, indeed more important than doing so with Rooney but others might dispute such a belief.

Lindegaard is ok isnt he? Strange if true, GK is your strongest position outside of attack.

I'd have Ken Barlow in net rather than this ogre. Mannone is shite!

I think he's less than happy being number 2.

In his interviews he's always talking about challenging for 1st spot, taking his chance etc... Unfortunately he just is an above average keeper. Will certainly be good enough for a mid table club though.

Lindegaard off then. Why Mannone though? Amos not good enough?

Barca have all but tied up Ter Stegan so probably not going back to Spain.

Depends on how strongly he feels about not going to Madrid because of his Atletico background. Diego Lopez isn't so good that they might not want an upgrade, particularly if Casillas ends up leaving.

I don't see DDG going anywhere, he seems genuinely happy here and has spoken of long term ambition at the club.

If this is true (big 'if'), it's probably for a back up role, but it's still weird.

He's a bit young to be playing understudy at a football club isn't he?

Ideally we'd be looking for a keeper on the cusp of 30 or older, somebody with experience but at a stage in their career when they are not overly demanding.

He's just another flapping shot stopper.

I thought Lindegaard looked a bit flappy when he's played, and Mannone is still pretty young. It would be weird anyway as i thought the whole point of him leaving Arsenal was because he wanted to play.

Don't really care tbh. If it happens it happens. Lindegard isn't good enough to be concerned with losing and Mannone isn't bad enough to be concerned about having to step in for DDG very occasionally.

Lindegaard is underrated. Sure he isn't going to be a brilliant number 1, still one of the best backups we have had.

A nothing story. Sunderland not in a position to sell currently, Westwood is out for the season. A nothing story, really.

In the summer? Maybe if Lindegasrd does move on.

Ridiculous, he is nothing better than Amos, our fourth choice keeper. This doesn't deserve to be in twitter thread, let alone having it's own thread. Brophs, you disappointed me, making another Moyes thread would be better than this.

Like I said, if it happens it happens. This will neither improve or worsen our needs for real transfers.

This is rather strange considering Mannone left Arsenal to get playing time. Just very weird if tru.

Aye, not really a huge deal. I don't think Mannone is that much worse off than Lindegaard who isn't a top class keeper.

I hadn't realised though we haven't got De Gea wrapped up for the next 5 years, this has to be a priority in the summer.

Without a doubt, he along with Rooney are our two biggest priorities.

What you need from a back up goalkeeper is generally experience at the top level, reliability, and at an age where first team football isn't as important.

What Mannone provides is about ten games in goal for Arsenal where his mistakes probably cost us a goal a game, about as much reliability as Almunia and he's at an age where he needs to be playing for someone week in week out to see if he can actually forge a career within the sport.

I've never understood why he doesn't just set up a business as a standard Roman Emperor lookalike. He'd be rolling in it.

His name wouldn't be out of place in your average mafia movie.

That's about it.

Last thing we need is a flapping goalkeeper. He's done fine at Sunderland mainly because he's having something to do.

Where as a top club like ours he won't have much and would need to concentrate. Hence why he didn't make it at Arsenal.

1) Probably bullshit

2) He has left Arsenal to be a No.1 at other (smaller) club............he has no chance against De Gea

3) Lindegaard isn't good enough as No.2 (He has shown that in so many games last season)

He's actually been pretty solid for them. If Lindegaard wanted to leave, I'd take him as backup

I would like us to sign a new backup, but I would rather we bought a keeper that's past 30 and pleased with being a backup (have to be good though). It would most likely not cost us anymore than we will get for Lindegaard.

Lindegaard is not good enough at all and it would be better if DDG could have a experienced GK supporting him.
