manchester music

The Courteeners are doing pretty well, a colleague of the missus went to New York recently to see them play - at the start of the gig the band asked if there was anyone from England present, when this lad and his friends told them they were from Manchester they were made up, took them out the next night, had a right ball apparently.

Courteeners are class IMO, and not just 'cos there from Manc which see's a fair few bandwagon jumpers.

Twistd Wheel are another good shout...Stretching it a bit, Oldham lads.

Well the obvious one is the Ting Tings - he's a cockney but they formed in Salford.

My own personal fave at the moment is a little known band called All the Kings Men (on MySpace)

courteeners also average.

To be honest the manchester music scene has basically killed itself off. there are thosands of real quality bands here, a real good comunity between bands and lots of good venues to play it in a city that loves music and is very proud of its musical heritage. But it is/has been ruined by promoters charging £5 to get in to a place that charges £3.50 a pint, most promoters also make you bring 20+ or you dont get a penny and usually if you aint filling out the venue they won't book you again and some of the bastards will usually tell the promoters they know not to book you. I'm in a manchster band and getting any kind of good string of gigs going and trying to even get 4 people to come and see you agian is almost impossible, and this is nothing to do with quality because i know some fantastic bands having the same problem, because of everyone being told to sell tickets to mates ever band just carries a crowd around with them of about 20 people, who come in, watch them, then leave before next bands friends come in a fill up the room and so on. It's a shame because manchester could honestly have the best scene and best quality of bands as well as biggest quantity if the scene would just change slightly.

Doves have got a new album coming out on Monday (6th) - their first for 4 years. Should be worth a listen.
