Have been thinking about the team as a whole for the next 1-3 years and where adjustments could be made.

Possible transfers out
Based upon speculation those going out could be:
- Heinze (£5-£10 mil; Juve, Milan, Spain)
- Richardson :D (£1-4 mil)
- C Eagles (£1-£3 mil)

Transfer funds

Based upon past years we tend to have about £10- £20 mil available for transfers each year (not unless the Glazers have screwed up their finances). Include possible transfers we might have an extra £5-£10 mil. So that's a possible total of;
£15-£30 mil.

Possible transfers in
- Hargreaves; £20-25 mil, DM
- Ribery; £5-£12 mil (??), Left-wing
- Nani; ???, Left-wing
- Huntelaar; £6.5-£15 mil (??), ST
- Berbatov

... Hargreaves is expensive ... he cost 2x what Ronaldo cost. And Ronaldo is 'the best player in the world' arguably. 'Tis much better to have good scouts and buy potential, rather than premium old players (which is what Real Madrid and Italian teams do) and go for broke.

Squad shortages
Looming Retirements

I think we have shortages in;
- right back/fullback (i.e. Neville replacement)
- left-wing
- central midfield

I think the most optimal is to have 2 replacements for every position, and if the budget does not permit, then it's always best to have more midfielders. I don't think we should spend on a striker/forward, but rather find some looming replacements for Giggs, Scholes, and Neville. So Huntelaar/Berbatov is not a good buy IMO, especially as we have Rossi.
If we do buy a striker, it's much better to have someone tall and strong, who's good with their head, like Drogba or Luca Toni. We have too many small strikers, and need some variety.
Maybe I'm just biased against spending big on strikers. I remember during 1996-99, the best years, we had Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke!! When Ruud came we won almost nothing. The midfield is where all the work is done, I would save my kitty and spend it on a Kaka/Ronaldinho/Gattusso any day. Look what's happened to Schevchenko at Chelsea.

Hopefully Heinze doesn't leave. :(
Maybe one of our left-full backs can switch sides; Silvestre?
If there are no Left-wingers in the world for the right price, maybe what SAF could do is buy another right winger, and let Ronaldo switch to the left wing, since he can play both sides??

If we sell Chris Eagles for more than 2 million I will eat my hat.

I dont like speculating on future teams because you can never be sure which young players will burst into the team and what players will be brought and sold.

I'm only concerned about the next 1-3 years. Actually, it's the retiring players and the urgent replacements that I'm concerned about. And I just don't like it general when transfer funds are wasted on unnecessary players/positions. I don't think we need a striker, we can score from all over the park, who needs a striker when there's teamwork and everyone can chip in a couple of goals each. It's too predictable anyways when you have a situation like van Nistelrooy as a sole strike-threat.
I can't believe how cheap SAF bought Ronaldo for!! He's the best signing by far!
 
I think the biggest problem we will face is to replace Giggs and Scholes in 2 years time.

I think Scholes' replacement already plays for us - Carrick. Not exactly like for like, but he is a neat passer with a decent shot, and will do very well alongside a more defensive-minded midfielder.

I'd like to see Rossi being given a chance to see if he can take up Solskjaer's mantle.

Replacing Giggs will be tough, but I believe Fergie is already keeping half an eye on the transfer market.

quite frankly I think saha as a super sub is a bad idea
as he would have a greater chance of getting injured going hell for broke in the final 15 or so minutes
 
Carrick is Scholes "replacement".

Ronaldo will "replace" Giggs on the left.

Neville will be "replaced" from the youth.

Of course the truth is teams change with the times, and the great players are never replaced.

I reckon we should buy players who are flexible to cover a number of positions.

The beauty of Hargreaves is that he can play all over the midfield, and at right back as well. With him and Fletcher we would have some insurance against injuries, energy, passing and youth to boot. They are the kind of hard-working water carriers who can unleash our attacking talent to press forward with confidence.

We could also use a young attacker with enough talent to move around the pitch like Saha, Rooney, Ronaldo and Giggs are capable of. That is the attraction of Torres as he has the complete skill package. Unfortunately I have a feeling he won't come to us, unless we are keeping things close to the chest to avoid competition for his signature.

Torres is worth the 27 million buyout clause in my opinion. I can't think of many other young, proven goalscorers with his athleticism out there.

Good predictions but still future of Saha will be a riddle to me and some people. :)
 
Get Nani, Get Hargreaves, Get Klose or Tevez for this year. Recall Pique or Evans and Rossi we'll be going for the quadruple

hargreaves is a welcome, but if bayern change their mind, so who do we go after? what about sulley munatri? he has good tackling skills but what about his passing ability?

I wouldn't argue with the majority of that mate. Torres 27mil? No way. I'd rather we go for Berbatov, at least we know he can cut it in the prem. Bent yes, as I feel Charlton are going to go down, and I've always felt he could fit in at ot. On Kus, apparently, Keano wants him for next season.

The 4 in question being Hargeaves on a structured deal, Nani and Mouthino last not least Tevez.

Think Bring back Foster will be great for us ut back for him cause he will make bench very warm... don't remember if Pig is on loan or was sell to us?
Hargreaves is a must buy one, hope that the failure of Bayern to go to champions league will make things easy for us to get him...
Strikers i don't think is anything awesome out there for us... Torres is not even good on his league and would cost like he ws Zidane... Berbatov is a good target but Spurs won't give us a second player in the following season of the departure of carrick...

Think with 2 signings on Midfield we will be good for next season

Richardson + 10/12m (plus a kiddie player if they moan) would make em content with the Bulgarian Pokemon's loss of services...
