Man Utd Under 17's at Newcastle tonight

The second leg of the U17s cup final. Toon lead 3-2 from the OT leg. Half time score in this leg 0-0. Toon played a dirty trick by fixing kick off for 7pm they ruled out 5 of the Utd players who are still schoolboys and therefore in eligible for evening matches. This lead to the inclusion of Mads Tim coming back from injury and he is having a blinder. Also playing well is the new GK signed from Peterbro. Kieran Richardson (C0 is also doing well. just as in the first leg Utd have had 60% of the ball but the Toon defence is playing a blinder.
we need to get that first goal. Away goals don't count so extra time and then penalties.

Anyone worried about the state of youth football at Old Trafford? Or are we just good at making sure that players peak at the appropriate time. Appears that ARSE and Longballpool in the ascendency in youth football. :( :( :(

Full Time Toon 2 Utd 0 (Agg 5-2)
Just after half time they got their goal. It knocked the stuffing out of us. Ten minutes from the end they got another. Although Utd had the ball for long periods they could not break down a determined Toon defence. Toon had about six attempts on goal and scored twice, we had about 20 and never looked like scoring. Another disappointing performance. Steele looks a class act and had no chance with either goal. Mads Tim had a blinder, his dribbling and close control remind me of Bergkamp. Lee Sims ar right back was superb. Kieran Richardson was carrying an injury but shone in patches.

And from the Toon perspective....

Newcastle U17s 2 Man United U17s 0
(aggregate 5-2)

Alan Irvine's under17s finished the season in fine style beating Manchester United 5-2 on aggregate with a magnificent display at St.James' Park to win the Premier Academy U17 trophy. It was a fitting farewell to academy director, Irvine who now leaves for Goodison Park to work with new boss David Moyes.

Kalvin Zola-Makongo gave us the lead on the night after 48 minutes, firing in from 12 yards after Alan O'Brien had induced panic in the Manchester defence with a fine run and cross down the left.

James Beaumont made it 2-0 after 78 minutes with a contender for St. James' Park goal of the season. He hit a glorious right foot curling shot from the left-hand side of the box. Lewis Guy made the goal with inspired play to keep the ball in near the byline and found Beaumont. All the crowd were on their feet to acclaim the goal.

With three minutes left Shanks, Webster and Bates came on for Beaumont, Taylor and Zola - a nice touch for three players who have all played their part in an outstanding season.

Chris Carr proudly lifted the trophy bedecked in black and white ribbons and the team then went on their second lap of honour - during the first Guy and Beaumont threw their shirts into the crowd before having to retrieve them again for the presentation...!

Crowd: 6,109 - East Stand full with a scattering in the Gallowgate.

To top the night off, it was all captured live by the MUTV cameras...!

We were severely depleted due to the game being played on a Monday. United had wanted to have the game on Sunday but Newcastle refused. 8 players from the squad had exams so missed out. It also meant we only had two players on the bench, and they were both 15!.

Have to give it to Newcastle though, they were good. Watch out for a Centre Back called Steven Taylor who is 16. Already over 6 foot, he definately has a future in the game.

I also agree with Red Pat, Lee Sims looks good. Needs to improve his passing though.

Any help with songs for the new Toon star of the future please....his name is Kalvin Zola-Makongo

;)

Superb prospect and good to have him back.</strong><hr></blockquote>

Too true. Its good to see that he played brilliantly, even despite the loss. Do you really think United have a gem here Roy?

Yep.

I think that Fletcher, Timm and Richardson all have very, very good chances to make it.

Will the 3 of them eventually will is anyone's guess but they certainly have the potential to do so.

I love the way Timm plays myself, he seems to have it all, a lot like Bergkamp, perhaps a bit more like Scholesy in a way. He has pace, he's very quick, he can take players on, his touch on the ball is excellent, he's a good passer, a brilliant, clinical finisher and a very inventive player. He's versatile as well and can play just about anywhere in the midfield or in attack.

United need another Dane in the squad, thats for sure.

Another player to look out for is Kyle Nix, England U-16 international, who is from what I've heard a hugely-talented prospect. From what I've heard he's been doing the biz for England and for our U-16 team and that he looks to be someone of real potential. I've heard he can play on the wing or in central midfield.

Roy - this Nix kid is our player or theirs ? ... I am a bit confused !! :p

Lee Sims is making a real good improvement lately ... He won the "Defender of Tournament" award when the youth travelled and played in a tournament in Germany lately ( with Juve, Dortmund youth all there ) .. the kids get 4th place in the tourney so they probably haven't played too well ( lost 2 crucial game in PK kick though ) .... but for Lee to capture the honourable award really make me think that he must have done something really outstanding ...!!

On Mads Timm ... . well - enough said of him ... How old is he now ? ... I read that he's already playing in the Reserve and Choccy think he's excellent prospect !! ... I am really eager to see him come up and make himself count ... I heard he's physically very strong already ...that could mean he'll be prepared for 1st team soccer much earlier than we expect ?! ( Timm didn't make the Germany tournament mentioned above cos of injury I think ... Fletcher wasn't there as well I think ) ...

How young is he, the question should be. He's a huge prospect, and I think he's about 17. :)

Btw, 6 of our players are in the current England U-18 side, that will play in the European U-19 championship qualifyers later this year.

The players are:

Danny Byrne (RM)
Kieran Richardson (LWNG)
Luke Steele (GK)
Lee Sims (RB)
David Jones (CM)
Kris Taylor (LB)

The U17s are definately more promising than our current bunch i.e. Chadwick, Wallwork etc.

Fergie was even contemplating giving Fletcher a Champions League number before he got injured, thats incredible...

I'm not worried about that age group, but we seem short of quality strikers IMO.

Wowo ... that's impressive !! ... I suppose the whole team will be dominated by Man Utd and Longballpool's players though ... ;)
