Manchester United's interest in Real Madrid midfielder Santiago Solari is gathering pace.

As we revealed last week, the Argentine could be one of two Real players who could be at Old Trafford by the start of next season.

Claude Makelele also remains a priority midfield target for United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and has told close friends that if he is to leave Real, then the Premiership and United is his preferred destination.

Meanwhile, Solari could land at United before his Real teammate with Ferguson keen to strengthen the left-side of midfield in January.

The English giants are expected to make contact this week about the Argentine midfielder's availability ahead of January's transfer window.

i like solari more than makelele tbh, could provide some needed competition for Giggs (competition - not Backup).

This is good news but what is it going to cost and are they going to be a good addition to the team? What I mean by this is, spend the money and then are either one going to end up being in a situation like Veron where, if either does not produce quickly, people start calling the sale a bad move etc and questioning why so much was spent and whether it was worth it.

Inter had a claim to a ~12m rated Real player arriving in December/January as part of the Ronaldo deal.

I can't see Cuper taking anyone but Solari TBH.

I read somewhere that Inter have said that they want the money rather then a player in part-exchange. Solari I am interested in, Makalele less so. Fergie said he wants a more physically strong squad and Makalele, although a decent defensive mid is even smaller than Butt.

Makelele I have no interest in whatsoever! Solari is a diff story, he is abit take it or leave it, left sided competition would be usefull but its not a priority, we need a striker more urgently.

we have richardson and chadwick! all we need is a left back (bridge of escude) and danny webber.

It was one from Morientes and Solari wasn't it?

Read that Seba and Solari are best mates and Juan has recommended him highly to Fergie.

Yes, that's what was said although I doubt it was specifically them or they were just mentioned as the likely options. How awful would it be to see your club include you as a "future option" in a contract to sign someone else? What if the player doesn't want to join Inter anyway?

If it is between the two, I can't see them taking Morientes over Solari.

The deal in January is 10 million euros or Solari.

MacManaman was also a possibility, but Moratti has discarded him as the expensive pensioner slot is already taken at Inter :D

Well let Richardson play a few games then!
