Just come up on my Football Direct News App. A source at Arsenal has disclosed that Moyes will try to sign the 31 year old in the summer.

Are you serious?

This website is worse than Indykaila.

We need someone better, we can't go for someone who is not much better than our midfield and who is close to retirement?

Would he be attainable? He'd have played for Moyes before so I'd assume he'd be open to the move, but would Arsenal sell? He'd be a good short term signing and would instantly become our best centre midfielder, I think Carrick's past it.

Doubt Arteta would leave Arsenal with their CL football, for us with nothing, or worse, the Europa League

He's not a top class player, doubt he'd be snubbing Manchester United. It's whether or not Arsenal are willing to sell.

Lazy reporting. It seems journos these days just pick up any random Everton or ex Everton player and link them to us.

This is probably a bollocks story.

Moyes would definitely be interested, in my opinion. He went for Fellaini already, Arteta is a much better footballer. With his coaching staff and attempts at bringing in Baines it's obvious he values personal he knows around him, which is fair enough if they're good enough.

thread worthy? No. Won't happen. Sick of us being linked with every Everton player that has played under Moyes.

Any Arsenal fan will tell you his legs have gone. If he is our midfield signing, we are in trouble.

I would've been in favour of him joining about half way through our six-year central midfielder signing ban, but now? Good player but not the right signing, even for a club of our current standing I think.

Bloody hell...I know it's only a rumour but...Anyone else with an Everton connection coming on board?

You don't need to say any more. He's not good enough, we don't need a stopgap player, we need someone good enough to play now.

This is not the way football club's should be run. We had the same with Cabaye. A club doesn't just go out and sign eleven world class player's, a club goes out and looks to improve on the weakest area of the squad. In this case, Arteta would be an improvement, forcing a Cleverley or Anderson out of the club.

In this case, Arteta wouldn't be an improvement. He's 31 and he isn't even playing much for Arsenal. Football clubs who aim to win major trophies don't hunt for players in the bargain bin with a "that will do" mentality. United needs a top quality midfielder and I'd rather buy an unfinished product than spend cheap on someone who has hit their glass ceiling, at a depleted Arsenal, and not progressed at all.

Moyes isn't in much of a position to make young gamble signings, at least you'd know what you'd get with Arteta, a proven Premier League midfielder who would be an improvement on our current midfield. Also there'd still be room for a top quality midfielder. I'd rather Arteta in our squad than Cleverley or Anderson, I think Moyes might feel the same way.

And he played for Everton. That's a plus.

All I'm saying is that some are being too snobbish in our search for midfielders, people didn't want Cabaye which was laughable. We should look to improve our midfield, not just hold out for world class midfielders.

We are going to be linked to loads of Everton players this summer, current and old. We are even linked to players with the same name as the club.
I'd be surprised if we bought anybody who currently plays in the Premiership let alone Everton players.

Football Direct News have come up with some real beauties in the last year or two.....they are hilarious

Would be an awful signing.

Even if we accept we're not going for a top class player, surely even overpaying for someone like Herrera would be a better idea? You'd get a player who could play to a similar level as Arteta but for the long term.

Obviously not happening though, this is a very weak rumour.

Lennon and now Arteta? I really don't want the biggest spend this club has had in years to be wasted on 2nd-Tier players. I'd rather get promising kids in and keep the big money for when we have CL to tempt the biggest names.

There's lowering your sights and then there's shooting into the ground...
