Some sad news from last nights match :(

Youths flee as car kills soccer fan

YOUTHS who fled from a car that killed a football fan at Salford Quays last night are being hunted by police.

Police are treating the death as suspicious and are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened at St Lawrence Quay at 10.30.

The victim - a 46-year-old man - was walking along the quay after the Manchester United Champions League qualifying game against Zalaegerszeg at Old Trafford when he was struck by a Ford Mondeo.

The man went under the car because of the force of the impact and was trapped beneath the wheels.

As the car came to a halt a number of youths leaped from it and fled before anyone could try to stop them. Horrified passers-by, who saw the incident, dialled 999.

An ambulance and fire crews were sent to the scene.

The fire brigade spent half an hour freeing the man from under the car while paramedics battled in vain to keep him alive. A post mortem examination is to be carried out. The man's identity has not yet been released.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the incident or who knows anything about the youths or the car to telephone them on 0161-872- 5050.

So that's what all those cop cars and an ambulance were doing screaming down Eccles New Road towards the Quays as I walked to the pub at 10:30 was!

:(

It says the following on text:-

"A murder probe has been launched after a man died following an attack by a gang who tried to steal his car in Salford quays, police have said.

Glynn Ellis, of Knaresborough, North Yorks, was approaching his car on his way home when a group tried to take it.

The 46 year old became trapped under the car in the resulting struggle and unable to move it, his attackers fled"

Bad bastards

:(

You give up on this world sometimes.

Wondered what all the commotion was last night walking along Trafford Road back to the car. Blimey, didn't think it was that.
