'tis a silly place
I seriously think we should sign the 22-year-old Derby striker, Malcolm Christie, before someone else does. I have been watching him for a year or two, and he looks an exciting prospect, and to be honest I think he would do much better than some of the other names quoted on here (Cisse etc.) because he has played in the Premiership.
He has unbelievable pace and looks like the most natural finisher since Alan Shearer. He has scored some excellently well-taken goals this season, including two against us and a fine strike against Newcastle.
Derby have just been relegated so now is the time to act. He deserves to be in the Premiership, and I believe if we don't look at him soon the likes of Liverpol / Newcastle will sign him. He also looks like he would fit in with a team that plays good football like us. He would cost somewhere in the bracket of about 6-9m, and unless Christie wants to stay at Pride Park, Derby really have no option but to sell.

Opinions ?

I think Stevie Mac will try to get him to go to Boro' seeing as though they know each other well from being at Derby together.

imo, United need a wiley veteran of the Teddy/Eric ilk. We already have youth in Diego and Ruud, Ole is still youngish too so that link type player is essential imo.

I'd still like PDC to come, even though he's getting on a bit, he's still fit as a fiddle and grafts hard.

I wonder if Del Piero could be tempted away from Juve, he'd be a nice fit imo; probably want £100,000 a week though

Maybe, but I see Forlan as more of a winger than a striker to be honest, he doesn't seem to have that cutting edge, but he cna work on it. That's another story for another day tho. I still think Christie is a wonderful player and we would regret not signing him if he matured in to a top class player with the likes of Arsenal etc. I do agree with you on needing another Cantona TTR. Di Canio is good, but I think we missed our chance. Those type of strikers seem like a dying breed unfortunately. :( TTR, have you seen Mr Woods' ManUtd goal site ? It has some classic Eric strikes on there, I could PM you the link if you need it.

Mal Christie would be a great signing, plus he is young and has already established himself as a premiership striker, and he scored 2 against us, a £5 million bargain. :)

No need for Christie. Forlan will be our 3rd striker, and whoever is 4th will rarely see the light of day.

Apparently some Argie called Housemann who I've never heard of in my entire life reckons we shouldn't have signed him. Planet bollox carries the story.

The subject of this thread is on his way to Liverpool in the summer.

Who isn't on his way to Liverpool? ;)

dont rate christie at all, i reckon robbie keane is a better player,

i think we need a real quality signing to work alongside ruud, ole is great and all but hes 29 now.

I know people will say we bought forlan for the future but we need a proven player now!, a kluivert or a hasslebank.

They'll all crawl out of the woodwork until Diego gets a couple of goals under his belt, at which point they'll shut just as quickly.

Mal Christie is World Class imo. And his young to. He would help us build for the future and replace Disco. And for Forlan, next season he will shut up all the doubters! :p

Zidane <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> ...no chance, kewell..maybe but unlikely IMO, thuram never, mexes..prob not THIS summer, cisse..i hope but not sure, anelka i think we've all but given up on, duff...very possibly, bridge about 50% chance, riggot again 50% IMO and mendieta...i dont think so but have heard things that give me a funny feeling that we might just get him.

As for GH, he's looking 2 strengthen, like every manager...did Fergie think your players were crap when he signed spent £47m adding to the pile of crap?

Gazza knows he get my vote on this ... we have discussed this before ... Yes I would rate Christie to be a good signing ... he's a nippy and pacy striker, ... very much the mould we would need to have ... and he is a Man Utd fan !! ...
Forlan has shown more potential in linking up plays and running down the flank rather than poking the ball into the net ... so for that sense he should be the 4th striker and at the same time, a good cover for any flank play IMO ..

The one thing about Christie is that he fecking runs his heart out, he is compltely honest and should have had a hat-trick against us.

I am sure we are not the one looking here ... the other big teams will do the same now ...
2 years back when I was mentioning abt our strike force overflow else Jeffers should be the one worth looking at ... and in no time he has been snapped up by the Arse .. .although he has been out injured quite a lot since .. but he's a damn good player else you don't think a French man will be interested ( especially when he can use his connection to get some talented youngsters from France for only nominal fee  ) ...

And now we talking abt Christie .. Looking around the top six team ... I can only see us, Longballpool and Chelsea a possible bidder ... due to the not so stable front-line for the future ( all apparently only have 3 top strikers in the rank currently - taking that LBP don't get Anelka ) ..

So ... I hope we don't sit still and regret 2 years down the road .. . If we don't do it - some other team will ... and with Derby down now, the kid might just tempt to take up any Premier League offer if it comes by ... Once that happen, it will take at least 5 extra mil. if SAF thinking of getting him from his new team then .. .

Move it SAF .. it is really good potential to be another brilliant signing of yours ..
