Quotes from the NOTW

"I'd love to go and play for Manchester United,"

"They have been in contact with my representatives and I'd love to go there."

"I will say yes if an offer comes in. I feel the need to discover a different championship after five years in Spain.

"Playing for Sir Alex Ferguson is something I want to experience. He is a truly great manager."

Geniune or just trying to get more money from Real? Would be a good signing.

Not really think so. He is not young and can hardly get any better. Plus that he is a pure defensive midfielder. Someone who can run box-to-box should be more suitable for us.

He's a good player. Doesn't need to play box to box because he's got ZZ, Figo and co, infront of him. His duty is to look after the back 4, he's VERY important to Real, selling him would be crazy! They've not exactly got anyone else as good as him for that role.

We witnessed on Wednesday how Real are all tricks and flicks without Makelele. There's a reason he's part of one of Europe's top midfields, and that's because he holds things together. His class can not be doubted, and he's probably the best person who can deal with Keane's recurring absence. Explains why we've made contact, if indeed we have.

Spot on. That's exactly how Real Madrid fans evaluate Makalele: he's the 3rd on the teamsheet behind Raul and Zidane.

Agreed Gazza.
Makelele would be a good buy but then where does that leave Keano CB perhaps or maybe Fergie likes the idea of a 4-2-3-1 formation with Makelele and Keano holding the midfield.

Might happen but what are your opinions on a fee for him ??

I dun think really need him.As suffering from the injury of both Wes and Gary I would predict that Man Utd will probably buy a right back in if we did plan in buy in a defender. Can't see Makelele would be good at playing right back there.Plus he's old

Spot on mate.I prefer Keane to play as the CB.
with O'Shea and Makalele doing the defensive duties in the middle
------------Makalele---------O'Shea---------------
----Becks----------Seba/Scholes------Giggs--------

This might win the CL for us.

Yes ,Real Madrid are also obsessed and successfull with this 4-2-3-1 and for that they need two blocking men in the middle. They are looking for Viera to partner Makalele as Conceicao is not performing.

Fregie might not play 4-4-2 next season. So there is no need to look for an box-box engine like Keane. We need one world class defensive midfielder.

We've got enough CMs already, Keane, Scholes, Veron, Butt, Fortune, P Neville and Fletcher coming trough. Central midfield isn't where we need to improve.

However, Makalele is a good player and would of course improve our team. Moving Keane to CB is something I'd love to see happen and if that's something Fergie would like too he might be looking for a world class DM. Tho, 30 years old Makalele isn't one for the future...

Throw in a new GK, and we're set.

Looks great, tho I'd rather have Gaz as RB and Sheasey on the left. Brown (when fit again) and Micky will make very capable back ups. Add Phizza too if we'll have an injury crisis.

Question is tho, would Sir Alex dare not buy another defender with Brown out til Christmas?

I'd love to see Makelele at Old Trafford. Be interesting to see how he fits in though. Given how long it took for the midfield to settle with Veron (and some would say it still hasn't) it could be quite harmful.

i think he should be able to fit in straight away..coz Real play fast, attacking football like us..
whereas Veron used to play in slower pace@Italy..

It seems he will cost in the region of £10-£15 mil.

For a 30 year old?

Methinks Utd shud look for younger alternatives, good player he may be.

You are confusing yourself.

Agree. I can't understand why some people want him so much. IF we go for a 30 year old he must be very, very special. But IMO there are many other options who are younger and not worse than him.

Makelele is important to Real simply because he does all the dirty things other stars midfielder of Real don't do. If Butt is playing for Real he will also be as important as Makelele ;)

true..but there aren't many good, young and proven defensive midfielder who is good enough to succeed keane nowadays though..

When the King retired we also couldn't find someone good enough to succeed him, but we still continue to get stronger.

And don't forget Keano is NOT finished yet. After the rest in this summer he may just return to his best next season.

There's only a 2 year difference between Keane & Makelele.

Plus Keane has able leutenants in Butt, Fortune, Phil ( if he's not sold! ) & possibly O'Shea.

I'd rather the £10-15 Mil be used towards getting a striker/winger, Centre-Back &/or a keeper.

Latest reports coming in indicate that Makelele has laughed off suggestions of his interest in joining Utd - seems that's the end of it.

He says the NOTW made it up
