Real Madrid midfielder Mahamadou Diarra excited by Manchester United link
Midfielder keen to play in 'best league in the world'...

Real Madrid midfielder Mahamadou Diarra has encouraged the rumoured interest of Manchester United, citing the reigning Premier League champions as a great move for him.

The Mali international was linked with United earlier in the week, with reports suggesting Sir Alex Ferguson believes the 28-year-old defensive midfielder is the perfect addition to his squad.

Diarra has been out of favour with Real manager Manuel Pellegrini in recent months, and reckons the Premier League is the best in the world.

"I am very flattered to be linked with a prestigious club like Manchester United," said Diarra to reporters.

"They are a top team and on a same level as Madrid. The Premier League is also the top league in the world, so let's wait and see.

"I am not playing a lot and at the end of the season I will discuss my situation with all parties and a decision will be taken.

"I want to play week in, week out like all top players."

Was the dog's bollocks a few years back but since his injury he's not really refound that form. Mind you if we're looking to offload a few midfielders this summer, then him at a cut price deal (let's face it, we'd hold all the cards if his mind was set on a move here). Around £10 mill would be a steal.

Granted, I haven't seen much of him, but his touch and passing seem woeful.

Was never that brilliant, but he played the proper defensive role at Lyon behind Essien who went box to box. He's strong and very, very, very, very defensive. Hopefully we arent interested.

No thank you. I would rather have Lass. That said I would pass on both. We have quite a few defensive mids. Fletch, Hargo (when he is back) and Pogba in the academy.

This. A lot of his hype was built around being in the same team as Essien

Another player we missed out on the first time

Really? I cant remember us ever being in for him, unlike Essien

I remember he strongly rejected us before going to Real.

 wise up

Diarra was another one we missed out on, just like Essien! He wasn't so excited about his United link when Madrid came sniffing around him.

Another myth, when he joined Madrid any links there was regarding us being in for him were at least 2 years old. He was a really odd signing for Madrid as they got him when a lot of the hype around him had died down

I wouldn't mind if we sign a tough tackling midfielder with great work-rate. Having a player like that alongside Fletcher may allow us to play with two forwards one of which would be a creative one such as Berba.

Not good enough for us.

And we don't need a player in his position.

Unless you believe that Hargreaves will return to his former glory then yes we need that type of midfielder. The only player we have with workrate, pace and sound defensive abilities is Fletcher. Anderson is NOT a defensive midfielder.

Diarra is quite over rated and many better options available.I never have rated Diarra tbh.

And we do not need a def mid.Not our weakest postion. We have Carrick too. There is simply no place for Diarra and the massive debt means we cannot afford too many players.

Should rather go for a attacking mid or a central mid with good passing ability.

No way.

A player as defensive as Diarra next to Fletcher would mean all our play would have to come down the wings. We'd continue with 4-3-3 for sure and the only way to change that would be to have a player who bossed the midfield with his passing. Diarra clearly isnt that player.

For a 4-3-3 he would be a good shield. The question is do we need a shield in front of Rio/Vidic Evans/Vidic? There are many ways to limit how much a team are able to penetrate and attack you. There are many more positive and attacking ways to limit a team and the best one is to always have the majority of the ball yourself and look to keep the opposition on the back foot rather than always playing on the break.

Oh I'm sorry I didnt realize you were privy to Uniteds transfer strategies..how exciting for you

No ta, best days behind him, was raved about at Lyon and we were interested in him at the time and i remember vividly him saying between us and Madrid it was a no contest, bit like Benzema last summer....feck him he wouldnt be any improvement on what we currently have anyway, and thats saying something when you consider most agree this is our weakest midfield for many a year.

He cant pass to save his life..
Why the hell would we need him... Hargreaves, Fletcher are better than him

The reason for signing him would be to add depth of proven players and that's a really hard thing to do without spending much money. I reckon he'd be a good choice since I'm fairly sure he'd come cheap and he's done enough to prove himself.
Wouldn't play in and out but he's way better to have in the defensive role than Carrick. I hate seeing Carrick deep. We only have Fletcher. I put Hargreaves as a bonus player for obvious reasons.

Carrick can tackle and he has positioning but he is slow as a snail and does not cover as much inches of pitch as needed. That doesn't make him a defensive midfielder. We need to make sure that our midfield is not overrun by any team with a decent midfield. That's a thing that a quality defensive midfielder would provide (considering that he would be playing with another good defensive midfielder (Fletcher)). It would also allow us to play with 2 forwards, Berba who would stay deep and provide creativity from the central pitch and Rooney who would stick upfront. We mustn't forget that we still have Scholes, Carrick (whom in my opinion is more suited for the deep lying playmaker role), Anderson and Giggs. Can't say the same about the defensive midfield's role where I can't see any valid alternative/cover for Fletch.

I am not saying that we should sign Diarra. Stating that I won't be surprised if the boss signs a defensive midfielder. Berba, Nani and Valencia can provide the team with enough creativity IF they can be played week in week out.

Yep, you're right. It's not like he's a target that we're chasing. He's from the Madrid's discount department. Always some good stuff to find there. He'd be cheaper than Danny Guthrie or a similar player in England.
In a 4-5-1 system you need a defensive midfielder and we only have Fletcher. There's just no way putting your faith in Owen (the curly haired one).
I'm all for proven quality that comes cheap.
VDS, Larsson (although short time he spent here), Blanc etc (It's almost 5am. Can't be counting names of the top of me head)

I think we could get a good deal on him.

I do too and think that he could turn into a good player but I would rather sign a better player, instead of wait on one that could have become very good had he came to United years ago

no thank you all he does is keep fouling players....can't string any passes at all.
