Mahamadou Diarra

Do you mean is this going to turn into a 50 page thread on him now silly season is starting?

If so then yes and you started it you transfer muppet

Too many people get labelled transfer muppets on here. The term is thrown around too losely for my liking. Often at people who make sensible posts about players who have been shortlisted by Utd.

Saying that, cockneyhammer's 'Luca Toni to West Ham' sort of explains why transfer muppetry is so looked down upon around here.

That's just the way it is here at RC, I've had my fair share of rants based on the term Transfer Muppet. It's only natural to be interested in who your club buys and who they sell.
The funny thing is that it's often people who know a bit about what's going on in the football world outside of England who gets labelled transfer muppets, and it is those who doesn't really follow the other leagues who use the term the most, with Jason being the prime example.

Sure some people go overboard with threads describing how we'd be able to buy 5 world class players if we just sell 6 squad players and put a bit of money on the table.
We will also occasionally see people mention players who they've perhaps only watched once and then decided we should buy him no matter what, though I suspect a lot of us are guilty of that this summer with Benzema. Then there are those who hasn't seen a player at all, but plays Football Manager and wants us to sign someone based on the game.

But those are only a very small percentage of the people talking about transfers and getting excited if we buy a young superstar. Those not paying any attention or interest to our transfers are much worse, at least in my eyes.

I personally love transfer windows, not so much to see who United are buying, but generally who goes where in the world of football. I'm really looking forward to see who you and Liverpool decide to go for this summer.

Yep I agree with all that. Benzema sprung to mind too, when you mentioned people who have only watched a player once.

Yeh I think it will be a busy summer for a lot of clubs in Europe this summer. Especially with all the hype of the Euros going on. Also there are a lot more clubs with major foreign investment. Im still waiting to see what the likes of City,West Ham, Newcastle, Spurs will do this summer, as well as all the big clubs.

The Benzema thing is a bit odd. Most of us has only watched him in 3-5 games this season, perhaps only in the two games against United, but yet every single one of us seem to think he'd complete our team. There's just something about the kid that ooze class, and the hype surrounding him seems to have effected all of us, even Plech transfer-jizzed when talking about him the other day.

I think it's got a lot to do with how perfect Benzema would be for United, he just fits the bill in all aspects. Not to mention that he's a young superstar just under the likes of Fabregas, Messi, Rooney and Ronaldo, the only difference being that this one isn't already at a major European club and it would therefore be possible to get him, and the realism of a possible transfer makes the excitement even stronger - even if he sound pretty turned off by the thoughts of moving to England.
It would be like if Messi was playing for Porto.

you lot make it sound like benzema plays in some obscure andorra league or summat so you can never see him. he does star for france's richest club and you can watch him almost every week if you want as i have for over a year and a half. sometimes i wish he didn't score against us because that's when it got blown out of proportion. before that there were a few number of worldwise fans who knew his abilities and were quietly dropping his name here and there. that's when u could have sensible discussions about him.

I try to watch as much football as I can really. Sopcast is the shit, you can watch anything/anyone on there.

He was on everybody's lips before we faced Lyon. The goal against us may have made the hype even bigger, but it was quite massive before we even drew Lyon.
I personally don't really have a life which results in me watching more than 10 games each week, but Ligue 1 is rarely part of this, the league simply does not interest me, and I even watch 2. Bundesliga matches. Yet I got caught in the Benzema hype, despite having only watched 3-5 of Lyons matches before they met United.

ligue 1 is not bad. I like watching ligue 1 more than SPL or eridivisie for sure or even serie a. it is ultra defensive, ligue 1 IMO but there are some great players in it. Ligue 1 is getting wealthier and will get stronger and stronger IMO, but it won't be over night.

but going back to the transfer muppet thing, this summer will be even 'worse' because of the euro's. Massive shop window, that.

They don't really show SPL here in Denmark. I used to never watch Serie A, but I've actually watched it quite a bit this season, and there has surprisingly been a lot of good football, though Juventus are pretty painful to watch.
The Danish league is quite awful, yet I still end up watching most of the matches anyway because of my local team.

I suspect we'll have our transfers sorted long before the tournament even begins.

eh depends on the players we're in for. If they are known quantities, someone like berbatov, then yes we'll be able to most probably do a deal before the euros. Or if it is South American, or non-participants in euro's, then yes.

But players who are participating and who's transfer value is based a lot on potentenial, selling clubs will not sell till after (unless we go OTT with our initial bid). Benzema for instance. On the odd chance he gets transferred, he'll be after the euro's. Same with ben arfa or nasri.

of course this isn't always the case (modric), but i'm baffled by that one still. a great euro boosted rooney's transfer value immensely. a great euro can add 5-10 million quid to a potential player's valuation. Selling clubs wont be willing to leave that at the table during negotiations.

Unlikely, given that it starts 17 days after the Champions League final.

"Long before" might have been an overstatement, but I'm sure Fergie and Gill will do what they can to get business sorted before the tournaments begins - that is if our targets are part of the Euro's.
Then again, we did also try to buy Hargreaves before the World Cup as Fergie never likes it when our targets participate in these tournaments, and we all know how that turned out.

I loved it how we had seemingly finished our business last year before the transfer window even began.

last year was brilliant in that manner (tev would've been wrapped up to if it was a straight forward transfer).

If we are in for lahm, that'll be done before euro's IMO.

Bosingwa, if i were porto, i'd sell after euros.

if i were ajax, i'd refuse to sell huntelaar till post euro's. His price could skyrocket as he is in a position where he could bag a boatload of goals in the hardest group in the euro's.

i think it's 50/50/ we'll get a player or two befor eeuro's. and one after.

The Euro is an opportunity for clubs to sell their talent on top dollar but its also a risky business. I mean if a player gets injured or if he doesnt do well then his price will go down. Huntelaar is the typical goal poaching striker. If the team does not perform then Huntelaar will struggle to make an impact and clubs like Real may not be interested in him anymore. I believe that Ajax has an already set price in their mind on their player and if that price is reached then he will be allowed to go whether its before or after the Euro.

yes the added exposure does equate to more risk. each club will do its risk/reward analysis and figure out what is optimum for them.

more i think about it, you are right with ajax/huntelaar. if the price they have in mind is met, they'll prolly sell before the euro's and not worry about what could've happened.

I also remember the enormous hype on here about Essien.

You win some, you lose some.

He's very good, at playing behind Essien. If we were to sign Essien too, this would be excellent.

we should sign benzema, kaka, messi, ramos, essien, lahm, aguero and dean windass. i have £1.25 to contribute to the transfer fund needed to land these most coveted of targets.

Nothing wrong with a bit of transfer talk, as long as it's sensible. The problem is, most of it isn't. Too many people think Champ Manager reflects real life.

you don't know what you are talking about, you are just jealous because i have managed united for the past four years winning numerous trophies and signing many a great player.

Yeh riiiight. So thats how club scouts go about their business is it? Judging whether players are suitable, based on 3 games, whilst playing for their national side.

remember the hype about this lad for the last 3 summers?

will he be a TM topic this summer?

If we wouldnt have signed another midfield this season maybe but not right now.

We are fecking full and the same goes to Veloso and any other.

An insult to both the above players IMO. Essien was the main man at Lyon Diarra was carried somewhat. Dont get me wrong he decent but thats it.

They carried each other. A very good combination next to Juninho.

Diarra is even more physical and better in the tackle than Essien. Essien is still good at those things though as well as being far better at everything else. Diarra allowed Essien to go and attack, which is still to this day the best part of his game.

Lets be honest our midfield was fading and at one point we had the likes of Miller, Djemba Djemba, Kleberson, and Smith. To a point it is fair enough, many people would have taken anyone half decent.

I don't see it being as bad this summer or next - we really do have a great squad and only a few pieces short of it being perfect really. As long as a striker of some quality comes in I don't see that much '***ping'.

Manchester United are monitoring Mahamadou Diarra's showdown talks with Real Madrid.

The Sunday Mirror says Diarra, 28, is valued at £14million but wants to hear from new Real coach Jose Mourinho whether he features in his plans before pursuing a move.

The Mali international has been linked with Manchester United and believes his style would suit the Premier League.

“Diarra will sit down and listen to whether the new manager has any plans for him before making a decision,” said Diarra’s agent Frederic Guerra.

“We have interest from England and France so if he is not going to get games at Real Madrid then he will leave.”
