There are a number of questions still unanswered about lost...here are some:
- What was the giant statue foot about? Where did it come from, who was the statue of? Why did it have 4 toes?
- Why are there polar bears on the island?
- What is the smoke monster/machine?
- Why was there a polar bear found in the middle of the desert with a Dharma logo on it?
- Why is Claire in Jacobs cabin along with Christian Shepard at the end of season 4?
- Why do they have to go back to the island?
- Why does everyone keep seeing dead people?
- What happened to the island after the survivors left?
- How the pirate ship got to the island?

Any more? and are there any answers yet?

I'm sure that some of the questions will be answered in the upcoming episodes.

The pirate ship might have been in the wrong place at the wrong time when they moved the island.

Which giant statue? I can't remember it.

At the end of series 3 when Sayid, Jin and Sun were sailing round the Island in Des's boat they saw a statue of a giant foot with 4 toes.

why not post this in the lost thread?

also, you do know that there are TWO seasons left, in which all the questions will be answerd. Be patient fool.

(Q)Why do they have to go back to the island?

(A) I think thats to do with what faraday called finding a constant as you travel through time to stop it happeneing. The oceanic six were not on the Island when Ben shifted it so they should be able to act as a constant and stop the time travelling. Just a theory but a good one, IMHO.

(Q) What happened to the island after the survivors left?

(A) They are going through shifting timelines in the island meaning they are all(everyone on the island) are in danger on being slaughtered by the various in habitants who have(or will) inhabit(ed) the island.

PS: sorry can't help with the rest.

as dominic monahan said in his interview with jonathon ross it was only written for two series why they have dragged it on is beyond me - i agree 1st series ok - then it lost the plot

The second series was the best of them all so far IMO. To end it after two seasons would have been crazy, there would have been so many un-answerd questions (heck most are still un-answerd today) but now they have time to answer them
I thought Christian Shephard IS Jacob?
Unconfirmed.
why have you started a new thread

I know right, very stupid.

As far as the polar bears go. My theory which makes sense to me:

They were used to turn that wheel to move the island like Ben did. Ben then ended up in the desert, just like the dead polar bear we saw.

- What was the giant statue foot about? Where did it come from, who was the statue of? Why did it have 4 toes?
- I doubt that will ever get explained. One of those random momments.

- Why are there polar bears on the island?
- The Polar Bears were explained, Dharma were doing experiments on animals, messing about with DNA and working out intelligence levels. They had bear pens (where Kate/Sawyer were inprisoned) a large bird cage I seem to remember and obviousally the underwater facility (where Jack was kept).

- What is the smoke monster/machine?
- All we know is that it has the ability to take any form. There seems to be an underground network of tunnels that it travels through (remember Locke getting trapped in one of the vents and Kate lobbed TNT down one of them). Dharma also found a way of stopping it using those fences.

- Why was there a polar bear found in the middle of the desert with a Dharma logo on it?
- The Polar Bear being found in the desert I think was used as a test subject as they were trying to perfect their teleporting skills. You can't use normal animals like rabbits etc as they'll go unnoticed, whereas Polar Bears being found in the desert will be easily spotted. Thats my theory anyway.

- Why is Claire in Jacobs cabin along with Christian Shepard at the end of season 4?
- This is an odd question. We know that Claire is Christophers daughter, we know that Jacob has supernatural powers. We don't really know what Christopher is, except that in the 'real' world he was dead. The island has brough him back alive for what purposes we don't know. But either way Claire seemed perfectly happy to leave Aaron her beloved son, so something odd has happened to her.

- Why do they have to go back to the island?
- We don't know. But Mrs Hawkings and Ben seem to think that it will destroy time if they don't go back.

- Why does everyone keep seeing dead people?
- Only Hurley sees dead people and thats because he is not mentally sane. We know this as he was in a mental hospital before he joined the island.

- What happened to the island after the survivors left?
- Not sure what you mean. We know that Ben moved the wheel that seemed to teleport the island to a different set of coordinates. But by doing this it seems to have dislodged the time on the island and its trying to 'reset' itself.

- How the pirate ship got to the island?
- Never really explained. We know that the captain of the ship wrote a diary and the diary managed to find its way back to the 'real world'. The diary has the exact course of the ship and therefore it gave the instructions on how to reach the island. (before it was teleported).

Is Jin really dead?

What is Ben's connection to Widmore?

What is the relevance of the numbers?

Here's my answers:

The polar bear in the desert was in Tunisia, the same place that Ben moved to when he turned the wheel, perhaps as it was icy down there, and DHARMA did not know what would happen to those who turned the wheel, when they first used it, a Polar Bear was used. They were availilble because as we saw in season 2. Dhamra were experimenting on Bears (Remember the Bear cages)

- Why do they have to go back to the island?

My answer for thsi is pretty longwinded, but I think it makes sense.

The Orchid station was first used when "the incident" happened (This was mentioned in the season 2 Dharma video, possibly be Polar Bears as I said above) The Dharma people did not know what would happen when they turned the wheel, and as such the island skipped in time, every 108 minutes. The counter measure to this was devised, and DHARMA had Desmonds hatch built, this would stop the island skipping, as all excess energy would not be allowed to build up, as pressing the buttons on the computer released it somehow.

However, the DHARMA Initiative was purged from the island, Desmond never got a new helper as there was no reason for DHARMA to keep pressing the button, as the Orchid was no longer being used. As a result the island never skipped...

Untill Ben turned the wheel, he appeared to not know about Desmonds job, so perhaps as the Hatch was exploded, he didn't realise what would happen. Now the island is skipping, and there is no way to stop it. The people on the island are already showing ill effects (Charlotte for instance). And the only way to stop time jumping is for everyone on the island to get "a constant" The only people they've known in the past off the island, and on the island is the Oceanic Six.

That's why the people on flight 815 were chosen by the island, through some massive coincidence a lot of them had met before the island, thus they were able to be used as constants. The island bought these people together, as they knew one day they'd be needed. It also explains the 70 hours idea. The fact that if the island doens't stop jumping in 72 hours, then everyone on the island will die.

I'm pretty sure me and Hectic made a LOST questions thread a while back.
