Everton's Under 18s continue to excel this term - securing another memorable result on Saturday with a 2-0 defeat of Manchester United.
The Blues are riding high in the table, and performances like this illustrate precisely why.
It was a tough game but the Toffees earned the right to win the game with an outstanding team display which oozed effort and cohesion.
In a tight opening period Manchester United went close on a couple of occasions via set-piece corner kicks but Lars Stubhaug in the Everton goal was equal to the challenge - producing one particularly impressive stop to ensure it was level at the interval.
After the break Neil Dewsnip's side grew in confidence and eventually took the lead on 65 minutes.
A set-piece routine straight from the training ground culminated in a stunning 25-yard thunderbolt from McCarten breaking the deadlock.
And Everton put the game out of sight of their opponents minutes later. Jack Rodwell was the architect of the strike, producing a commanding run from the heart of the Everton defence before releasing Kieran Agard.
The former Arsenal striker produced a cool finish, passing the ball beyond the United keeper and into the net.
United did their best to get back into contest, but Stubhaug was not really tested as Everton maintained their two goal advantage to secure all three points.
