Despite reports that the entire fee from the Jaap Stam deal 'is in hand', it has been rumoured that the Italians still owe more than half of the £16million debt. And the latest from the infamous Italian grapevine is that the Serie A club have approached United with a possible solution.

According to reports, Lazio are willing to let Lopez leave Rome for Old Trafford to wipe out the remainder of the owed money. And the Argentine striker is thought to be more than interested with the proposed move, especially now that compatriot Juan Sebastian Veron has settled in Manchester.

Sir Alex Ferguson is known to be in the market for a new striker, a search that has become more intense with the injury to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. And the United boss is a big admirer of Lopez, whose pace would be a vital asset against Premiership defences up and down the country

Probably a very logical signing although I do not believe a striker will be bought in the January window. Shame though, a class player who would enhance the side no end.

what reports??

Kinell i can make some mumbo jumbo up and say united are linked to......whoever.

Seems like nearly all the players in the world are linked to United, these days.
