Bought him from Southend for £250.000 - strange that we let him go - that lad had real potential

Didn't think he had much to offer beyond his huge size myself.

But considering we have Cofie, King, that new guy from Italy Pucciarelli or whatever his name is, Macheda, Welbeck, W.Keane and Petrucci....

I don't think we are lacking talent up front

Can't say I was ever totally convinced by him - for every moment that made you think 'great touch for a big lad', there were five that made you think 'the new Kevin Francis'. Would have taken a punt at 250k to see how he developed and offer something different, but if I had to guess, I'd say we'll not end up regretting this too much.

He'll obviously score a hattrick against us in both games against them this season now.

The likes of Cofie and King just look more like "United" players to me. I can't picture us with a Peter Crouch type, whereas Liverpool have had the real thing not so long ago.

Kevin Francis?? Stockport legend! Not heard that name in ages!

I'd probably agree with you - he was very raw, and a bit leggy.

Thought in the Milk Cup he looked like he had great vision and flair although his execution was sometimes a bit lacking. Worth a punt though surely. Having said that, as everyone is pointing out, we're fairly well stocked in the young strikers department so maybe we just thought there wasn't really room for him and he wasn't better than what we already had.

Didn't he kiss the little red devil at the Milk Cup? He'll get on well with Mascherano.

I was pretty impressed with him in the Milk Cup. Although I agree in King, Cofie and Keane we already are pretty stacked in the youth team. Also have Macheda and Welbeck, so we have a talented bunch already and as said all seem to fit the "United" way.

Ngoo has a lot of raw potential, and if nutured in the right way could be a good player.

Well it seems like Rafa was desperate to sign a United player (heinze, Tevez, Shawcross) so looks like this was the best he could do.

There's also Petrucci and Morrison who can play in the hole along with others like Brady, Stewart, Ajose etc who can fill in.

This is revenge for Owen.

Man we have a good team - all our rejects end up with our rivals. Wouldn't be surprised to see Phil Marsh and Aaron Burns with City and Arsenal

Not surprised we chose to let him go.

Gotta chuckle at the way this has been spun by the press.

Liverpool beat Manchester United in race for Southend starlet Michael Ngoo - the 'new Peter Crouch'

Liverpool have pipped Manchester United to sign 16-year-old striker Michael Ngoo from Southend for a fee that could reach £250,000.
Ngoo has been compared to giant England and Tottenham Hotspur striker Peter Crouch.

Southend’s head of youth, Ricky Duncan, said: ‘When this chance came along for him we couldn’t stand in his way.
'Michael had accepted a scholarship with us at the end of last season but he didn't sign.
'He felt that he could get a Premier League side which was his choice and fortunately it has worked out for him.'
There has been a debate about the way big clubs pursue young players, but Duncan praised Liverpool's approach.
'Liverpool got in touch with us and offered him a trial,' he said.

'Then they made us an offer which we thought was a fair price.
'It's very early in his career but we believe he has the potential to go on and carve out a good career for himself at Liverpool.'
