Liverpool make £12million Duff bid

Liverpool are poised to make a £12m offer for Blackburn winger Damien Duff, despite missing out on the Champions League jackpot.

According to reports, Reds boss Gerard Houllier has been promised funds to strengthen his squad, and Duff is his primary target.

Rovers have already rejected a £10m offer for the 24-year-old.

But Liverpool are now preparing another swoop for the Republic of Ireland star, who has also been linked to Manchester United.

Blackburn boss Graeme Souness is already resigned to losing Duff, but he has stated that only a "ridiculous offer" would lead to a definite deal.

Duff signed a new deal a year ago, but it is widely though that he negotiated a £15m escape clause.

Houllier is optimistic that Duff will provide the width that was conspicuous by its absence this season, while chief executive Rick Parry has promised signings who will have fans "on the edge of their seats".

Other rumours today link us with a 1.3m bid for Basel's Hakan Yakin and a move for West Ham's Trevor Sinclair.

and why leave blackburn for you?</strong><hr></blockquote>

Because we'd offer him more money, give him CL footie next year, challenge for more cups and realistically stay in Europe longer than Blackburn.

Seemingly.

Shanks isn't surprised that Ged is checking out cheaper options considering that a large portion of the transfer kitty could be spent on Duff.

Shanks meant that we will qualify for the CL next season.

Unless Platini changes it all around of course.

I would have thought that continuity is something that Liverpool are crying out for at the moment. I don't beleieve that buying another 4 or 5 players would help liverpool one bit.

Ruudy, after United finished 3rd, behind Liverpool last season, were there moronic Scousers going around claiming that Utd were finished and Liverpool were the best in England again?

If there were, they look like real muppets now don't they?

Claiming that Liverpool 'get more shite with every player we buy' or whatever just will make you look in further stupid when we sort out the issues that made us have this bad season and get back on track.

Buying Duff would be a signal of our intent to turn things around and actually challenge again soon.

Don't jump on the bandwagon, 'cos when it crashes, you look like a right tit.

wheres the 3rd person gone?

i'll take the piss all i want thanks

13 long mate and counting

To be fair on Ruddy I think hes consistant with his slagging.

He would be saying the same stuff if we won the league without losing a game I think.

That's all wishful thinking isn't it Shanks. Blackburn finished just behind you, and unlike Liverpool they're an improving side. Seems like he has as good a chance of playing in Europe with his current team as he does with you.

Of the list these are the only players I would have kept/keep.

And Smicer only because hes not a bad sub, but thats it.

And Diouf because hes shown some good spells and I would still offer him a chance, I feel he will get better.

Nate agrees that there has been some wasted money. 52m wasted to be a little less than precise.
