I don't get it. It's basically non live rap music except with shouting instead of rapping.

Can anyone who's a fan enlighten me on what the deal is?

Notice Tinie Tempah at least had a live band with him at Glasto, which surely makes a lot more sense...though I'm not sure he counts as rap/hip hop.

Do you mean any rap artist who performs without a band?

I've said it once and I've said it again, it doesn't work in a festival type arena....Beyonce was a steaming pile of wank

Yes. Where they just walk up and down the stage shouting into microphones and pulling gangsta facial expressions, and then occasionally someone gets shot.

A lot of rap music doesn't really rely on live music so a dj and a sidekick is usually enough to get a live performance going. Depends on the artist and venue aswell. Jay did mtv unplugged doing some of his old tracks with a band which is ok but I'd still prefer a typical standing concert with the usual set up. I personally don't think rappers are suited to the outdoor festival type thingys .Are you refering to any particular examples?

Live hip hop is often hugely underwhelming at outdoor festivals, and even in small venues I find it a generally far less satisfying experience than live band music.

With exceptions, of course.
